“Go there during the day”
Reviewed November 29, 2012

We couldn't enter since they closed at 5pm. Wear shoes because the area is dusty. Restrooms are USD0.50 per person, decent but not cheap. Never go during the summer, it will be hot!

“The Burning Bush”
Reviewed November 28, 2012

This Monastery has the well where Mose met Zipporah and also the "burning bush". The bush is said to be (by my tour guide) the only bush of its kind. It was an interesting place and was part of the Into The Promised Land Tour. Got to see this after our long hike up Mt. Sinai.

“A Date with Martyrdom”
Reviewed November 26, 2012

Though Egypt is associated with pyramids, the itinerary is incomplete unless you also visit St. Catherine's Monastery. Nestling on the foothills of Mount Horeb, it is a perfect blend of heritage, legend and religion. Tortured and prosecuted for her non-compliance of the king's desire to marry him, she was sacrificed to the king's audacity. The monastery is a symbol of self-respect and an indomitable spirit. The Burning Bush as depicted on the stone sets one thinking about the atrocities committed by the powerful. Flanked by hills and encircled by crumbling walls, it is quite cosy inside and some of the new buildings added for the visiting members of religious hierarchy appear to be quite inviting. Though taxies provide quite a comfortable ascent, going on foot can be quite a thrilling experience.

“Interesting Experience”
Reviewed November 20, 2012

The historic significance of this location is moving. It sits at the base of Mount Sinai and has an interesting museum. The vendors are very annoying and detract from the experience. I short walk from the bus parking area was not a problem. Go early.

“Lovely place but the monks are not too friendly”
Reviewed November 7, 2012

The visit to the monastery is quite short as there are not many areas open to the public. The basilica of the transfiguration is an awesome sight despite the limited access to it. And the descendant of the burning bush, in the courtyard behind the basilica is a special sight, specially to believers. I just wish the monks were wore welcoming of visitors. The few I saw seemed annoyed by my presence and made me feel like I was bothering them.
