We were guests at the makadi palace hotel for two weeks from xmas eve until January 6th and stayed in a junior suite. The hotel is set in magnificent grounds with pools, bridges, foliage and palms which are beautifully illuminated at night with lamps. The hotel is very nice and our room was spacious and kept very clean by housekeeping. Any issues we had were dealt with professionally and immediately, you cannot ask for more than that. The hotel seems to be predominately German and Russian guests, but this was not a problem. Xmas and new year for all inclusive guests requires a 50 dollar each supplement to gain access to the entertainment and shows provided in the joker club, we did have an issue with this, and so did many other guests who were also all inclusive who were unwilling or unable to pay the amount. Even though special food had been made available in the afternoon and nicer food at night, this should have been included anyway. This is the first time in any country we have had to pay for the xmas and new year gala entertainment. There was the piano bar with pianist if you did not pay, not very good we were told. The beach bed mattresses are very tatty and need replacing. One boy only to bring the drinks on the beach, which took forever sometimes and the beach was less than a quarter full, I dread to think how long you would have to wait in summer with just one waiter! There appeared to be numerous men who put mattresses on the loungers on the beach, surely some of these could be used to bring drinks too, makes sense to me. Having said that we loved our stay and intend to return in April with some of our family. We can recommend this hotel for service and beautiful surroundings.

From the start we sort of knew this hotel would not be that great, the frontage and lobby promised alot but the rest of the hotel failed to deliver.
We booked two weeks to take in Xmas and new year as a relaxing time after a turbulent year. Our first sight of the hotel was in darkness so no clues to the place as such, our room, though, was at best average, classed as "a junior suite", again a bit of a misnomer. Apparently, this room is due for renovation and if that was the case, then it should not have been in use.
The bathroom was always smelly, bad drains, the bath was so marked my wife would not use it, having to use the shower. There would be an occasional mini flood from behind the toilet, then it would stop.
The tv was hopeless, the only English channel was like watching a snow storm. The wardrobe always smelt musty and the balcony seats were broken. However, knowing this, we tried to put a positive spin on our holiday.
Our first meal in the Discovery was nice, pasta cooked at the counter, and very tasty.
In the morning we went to the same place for breakfast and what a difference, tasteless omelettes and long queues for an ineffectual toaster, and as for poached eggs, what a joke, overcooked and left in tepid water so they became hardboiled!
If you wanted fresh orange juice you were expected to pay 4 euros for the privilege! (ALL INCLUSIVE?)
No kettle in your room meant you had to go to one of the breakfast "buffets" for coffee, it was horrible, had tea for a fortnight as we couldn't stand the coffee. But you could have a nicer coffee if you went to the lobby and paid extra(ALL INCLUSIVE?)
We found out that Xmas eve meals were not included in the ALL INCLUSIVE but you could eat at the Dome, if you were prepared to queue, and if you wanted to use the Joker club you would have to pay an extra 100 euros per couple! This was repeated on new years eve as well and the "meal" in the Dome was disgusting. However, if you paid 65 euros for a table, you could get something edible(ALL INCLUSIVE?)
If you weren't prepared to pay extra the only place for a drink was outside the lobby, very cold!
If it wasn't for the Sunset bar at lunchtime, we would probably have lost weight during the fortnight! The Rendezvous was another saving grace, mainly due to the excellent staff.
The two a la carte restaurants had limited choice unless you paid for the extras(ALL INCLUSIVE?) and the seafood soup in the Botanical mysteriously changed to a bisque with no change to the menu.
The only truly decent meals we had during our entire stay were at the newly opened fish restaurant in the makadi mall were both Ali and Gaad Ahmed served a superb mix of fresh lobster, tiger prawns and fish fillet and a great attitude, they only wanted us to experience the quality of their restaurant and we really did. Sadly, it wasn't included in our all inclusive package but by then we were desperate for real food and the cost was more reasonable than the main hotel.
The housekeeping was pretty poor, having to ring up for towels, toilet tissue etc, they seemed to spend all they're time on their mobile phones.
All in all, if it wasn't for the minority of excellent staff, particularly Anna, this holiday would have been a disaster.
Apparently, there is a "system" at work here, please let us advise you, it isn't working!!
So, to summarize, two to three star at best, for what they charge, there should be some major reinvestment back into the hotel.
And no way would we recommend or go back!

We stayed next door at the Makadi Spa, but visited the Botanical on two occasions for dinner.
First occasion there was a small problem with my husband starter which was immediately rectified and the chef came to our table to appologise.
The food otherwise was excellent as was the service. The weather changed during our second week and dinner was now being served inside.
Service and food in this lovely restaurant are second to none
Special mention to Mabrouk Fathy Head Waiter 5101 thank you sir

It is perfectly safe to travel to the Makadi Palace in Egypt

We have returned from our fifteenth visit to this fantastic Hotel
It is perfectly safe and we had no concerns whatsoever about the safety.
Returning guests are made to feel so special, the staff go the extra mile to make every day memorable. From the management to the pool boys, the service is outstanding.
we went as a party of six, and all have rebooked to return next year.
Our day starts at about seven in the morning, we find our chosen place for the day, lay down our towels and snorkelling equipment, and head off for breakfast.
After breakfast we return to our sun beds and relax for an hour before heading down to the red sea for our snorkelling exercise, well we don't exercise we float over the reef and watch the many colourful species of fish and fauna. its amazing. We were lucky enough this year to swim with turtles. we then return to our sun beds again to relax and make the next big decision (where will we have lunch today) there are plenty of choices ,
the Tai restaurant, our favourite afternoon Diner. The food here is so tasty, at lunch they have set menues.
Then you have the Dome This is a serve yourself Diner, if you cant find anything to your fancy here, stay at home holidays are not for you. So much choice.
Then you have the Melange this is also a serve yourself restaurant, with plenty of variety of foods.
And also the Sunset bar,Here you can get burgers, hotdogs, french fries and other choices. This is also very good.
But if you dont want to leave your sunbed. There is a pizza boy comes to take orders. There is a small charge for this service, but the pizzas are superb. We then return to our sun beds to take in a little sun.
In the evening ,we like to walk around the hotel grounds, and then have a few drinks before dinner.
There are many restaurants to choose from, and in my experience you won't be disappointed with any. Then after dinner we like to take in the entertainment at the street party at the Joker bar ,another great night is the beach party, plenty of dancing going on here with wakko one of the entertainment team,I don't know where he gets his energy from. Then it's off to bed, the rooms are spacious and clean with the beds changed every day.and also fresh clean towels.i can't find a bad word to say about this hotel and the staff, they all try so hard to make it a fantastic holiday.
The pool boys and restaurant workers, really work hard to make your holiday memorable, so if you would like to tip them,I would take American dollars to tip with,as it is easier for them to exchange this .we are already planning our next visit to see all our friends at the makadi palace.
A very big thank you to the management at the Makadi for making our holiday so special.

Room Tip: I would choose a high floor room, overlooking the pool area.
