Well, we were there again. For the 4th time. Hotel was well filled, especially German and Dutch and many Scandinavians. Compared to last year improved, this should be the case however since prices are not really low. Melange has become a kind of wok restaurant with fresh pasta. Five new restaurants in the Makadi Mall (Egyptian, Italian, French, Chinese and Indian), a large part AI, some dishes to pay a bit extra. Makadi Spa and Makadi Sunwing are partly ready. The promenade is beautiful and is almost finished with lots of bars and restaurants opening. What still remains is the construction of a new Makadi Mall, which would be ready this summer (!).
Clumsy beds are partly replaced by modern lightweight beds (see photo) Breakfast is still quite good with very tasty omelettes. Lunch usually in Italian or Caribbean (Grand Makadi) or a hamburger here and there. Also new is a pittacorner (of chicken) at Mermaids.
We'll be back in 2013!

I will start by telling you all the things i wanted to know before we went to this hotel. The weather this time of year was perfect.(much better than the canaries same time last year) .The sea was lovely and warm, ideal for the fantastic snorkelling right off the beach. We saw giant turtles & nemo amongst all the other beautiful fish. Pools are only for the brave though. There is so much food variety to choose from you cannot possibly go hungry. loads of different restaurants to choose from. The room was fine ,very large ,huge cumfy bed shower a bit slow. I think the star rating abroad is not the same as ours but knew this before we went. Very happy with the service (as always in Egypt.) Staff were excellent right across the board. You can walk all the way round the horse shoe makadi bay . Quite a long walk but lovely. Wouldn't hesitate to go back again.

After returning to the Makadi Palace for our 5th time , we were looking forward so much to another great holiday, this was not to be, we emailed the hotel to see if we could have the same room as we have had the past four visits , by the way we booked our holiday in November so we paid the top price not a deal like many people were lucky enough to get!!! Going back to the room they told us yes the room would be fine for us to have as we were return guests of five times, upon our arrival on the 17th Feb for 2wks we were told that the room that we had been promised was UNAVAILABLE until Sunday morning as there was a German couple in the room and they were going home on Saturday night !!!!!!! We were not to impressed about this but we did the usual British thing and said ok we will move rooms on Sunday !!!! The first room that we had there were many problems the sink plug was jammed wen we looked it was actually held together with plasters (yes bandaid plasters) there were NO lamp shades at all and the bulbs in two lamps did not work, the bedding green valance was marked and torn , but most concerning the aiconditioner cover was off and the electric plug in the bathroom were both showing xposed wires , we called the reception staff and they got someone to correct it ASAP !!!!!! Sunday change to second room !!!! To my astonishment this room was just as bad!!!!!!! Bearing in mind a few hours earlier someone had checked out of this room .... The bedding awful again a horrible smell on the pillows like a greasy stale smell(yuk) again lights not working and NO lampshades!!!!!! The shower curtain stained and the bath and grouting terrible all mildew!!!!! We called yet again to get this rectified! Nothing happened , so we put pen to paper and complained after three days they contacted us saying that they were sorry they put a fruit platter in the room ( this is all very nice but we just wanted a good holiday!!!! ) After discussing things through we were advised to move to the Makadi spa hotel there is still building work going on there but it is very quiet THIS IS A FIVE STAR HOTEL !!!!!!!! This is how the MkPalace used to be I cannot stress this enough if it was not for the rooms which are in urgent need of decoration we would go back to the Mk Palace in a heart beat however for the same moneys spent I would rather go to the Makadi spa hotel... With regard to other aspects of Mk palace i was happy with the majority of things ..... But with all the messing around it did spoil our holiday !!!!!!!!

I spent New Year's 2011/12 at Makadi Palace Hotel, Makadi Bay - and can honestly say I would go back there in a heartbeat!

The resort is quite simply beautiful, and incredibly well maintained. We travelled outside of peak season so the hotel wasn't at full capacity, and probably seemed even bigger than it normally would!
As we were staying at the resort during Egyptian winter - the temperature of the pool water was a little chilly, even though the outside temperature was perfect. But I would imagine that during summer or the hotter months the water temperature would be just about perfect. I was told the hotel boasts the largest swimming pool in North Africa, and it was certainly impressive.

The range of food available at the resort was much better than I had imagined, and even though a little work was required to ensure we could eat in as many of the different restaurants as possible, it was certainly worth the effort.

Our trip was made particularly enjoyable thanks to the efforts of the F&B Director - Seare Mekonnen. He spent a great deal of time paying attention to us and other guests to make sure we were comfortable an enjoying our stay. He made us feel so comfortable and relaxed at the resort, and we were lucky enough to be able to dine with him and enjoy a wonderful dining experience!!

Seare was an unexpected and superb addition to our trip - and all of our group were grateful to have met him.

All in all, the holiday was a fantastic experience, and I would DEFINATELY go back to Makadi Palace in the future. I would recommend it to anyone going to that part of Egypt!

Ian

Hey, l just spent 2 lovely weeks at Makadi palace in feb and l have to say l had a great time! The staff were friendly and attended to our every need.

For accommadation, we stayed at the Makadi Family Star. The bedrooms had massive beds, which could fot 4 people! It had balconies on both floors and the veiw was amazing!

The choice of food was unbelievable, it was hard to decide what to eat, with a buffet resturant (dome) with a great selection for breakfast, lunch and dinner, there is something for everyone;) On top of it there were 8 different resturants around ranging from Thai to egyptian, and of course we ate in diffirent one`s each night. My favourite was Thai and if your every decide to eat there, then u have to taste the chocolate fondant!!! It was out of this world!!

The staff are very friendly and couldn't do enough for you, especially the food and beverage manager, Seare Mekonnen. He really made sure we had everything we need.

l had no problem getting a sunbed, even when l went down at 10am and were waited on by the pool boys who were very helpful and friendly, l couldn't ask for more. Even tho the staff worked long hours they always meet you with smiles and were ready to help. You don't even have to get up to get a drink, as they will bring it to you. l mostly spend my days at the spa hotel which was quiet and the view was amazing and l had the hole erea to my self.

I would highly recommend this hotel if you are looking for a quiet relaxing break, l will be going back again very soon.

I would agree with comments below this hotel,is looking very tired and in need of a large overhaul. The rooms, are old Nd in need of modernisation for five star. Cathod ray tubes for televisions, remotes that need to held together with tape, no lamp shades on the lamps air con that don't work........ The bath room, the baths are very narrow and somewhat impossible. The decor is dark and dingy in an awful green colour, plastic baths that are heavily stained, sockets hanging out of walls..... Room service- be prepared for a long wait cold food and the wrong order.
Restaurants - very repetative and the food quality is poor.
It would seem that this hotel chain in concentrating on the other nearby builds and forgetting the golden nugget that was.
Staff, don't forget the tips as you will be hassled and chased for tips. We even moved rooms due to problems but was followed by the room cleaning boy for money. Such a pain and annoying.
In conclusion this is to a five star hotel, the building is in dire need of repair in places and an overhaul - I agree Witt the night seen of the hotel which is amazing and acts as a selling point but the reality is so different. If you want a good quality five star hotel try the Riu chain that's quality!

Room Tip: Choose the makadi spa - still working progress but quality
