“Even better than before!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 16, 2014

Just returned from 3 weeks at the Makadi Spa - it was heaven!! This was our second visit & everything was even better then the last time - not surprising as the management team are so enthusiastic & on the ball - there one aim is to fulfil your every wish, but you do have to ask - they are not mind readers! an example - we asked for extra pillows & had 9 (Ian has a neck problem)
also they changed the chairs on the balcony for loungers
Pleasing to see that few of the staff have left since we were last there (Nov 2012)
We could not fault any of the staff - they were so attentive without being over the top - special mention to
Hosan the World at breakfast
Hassan the reception bar
Ashraf the infinity bar
Mohammed the fish restaurant
The food was excellent - our favourite was the Tapas - but nowhere was disappointing.
We would also recommend trying some of the restaurants offsite - we had one of our best ever curries at Mumbai in the Mall. The French restaurant is also very good. We ate at many different places - we walked round all the other hotels & if something smelled good we went in!
The suites are very spacious & spotlessly clean.
As we were there for 3 weeks we upgraded to a pool suite for the last week & what a treat!! It was unbelievably spacious with a huge living area & dining area, covered sun terrace & open sun terrace & of course a private pool - absolute heaven!!
We plan to return in November & look forward to another great holiday
Having read some of the reports on Tripadvisor we do wonder if we stayed at the same hotel as others - but we can only speak as we found it!

Room Tip: there are no "bad" rooms - but if you really want to treat yourself, upgrade to a pool or...

Having just returned from the Makadi Spa for the third time I thought it time that I actually wrote a review about the place.
We visited for the birthday of my partner from the 7th March for a week and what a week we had. It was everything we thought it would be and more. I cannot praise the staff enough who all went out of their way to make it such a wonderful holiday. Thank you all once again.
I will be totally honest with this review with some negative points that will hopefully make the management make the minor changes to make this a true 5* hotel. I won’t go on about the positives of the rooms or the entire restaurants on site as so many other people have already said all that needs to be said.
We first visited the hotel July 2012 and yes, there were teething problems and probably more staff than tourists, but this time the hotel was very full with predominately German tourists. I have never witnessed so many people vying for the sun beds at such an early time of the morning – well before 6am! You are meant to be on holiday! But to be honest it did make me laugh watching them from our balcony overlooking the infinity pool and the Red sea. Room 6308 as requested was superb, thank you Ahmed. What I am trying to say is that the hotel states that they have a no reserve policy on the sun beds, which simply is not true. I don’t know how you can enforce such a policy but as one other guest stated, “it’s the guests that make the rules”………so, with that we also got up early, towels at the ready rushing down to secure our sun bed in our favourite area adjacent to the infinity pool to the dismay of our European neighbours. Hypocrite, no just having a laugh as there is so many sun beds and so many lovely areas of the grounds not to mention all the beds at the beach.
Is it all inclusive? No. It was back in 2012 but the lobby bar is now payable after 10am which we found out from our previous visit second time around. What a shame as it is such a lovely setting. I was told that the decision was made because of patrons complaining of the noise late at night. Fine, then maybe charge for drinks say after 8pm. That barman must have the best job in the hotel!! Outside of the Red Sea hotels the other restaurants in the Mall have extremely limited menus on the all-inclusive basis which is so disappointing; otherwise you will have to pay extra.
One change that the hotel has added since last December is the tea & coffee making facilities in the rooms. Great - but hit and miss with the provision of milk or cream. No vinegar at the fish restaurant, chipped cups – and cups with no handles - along with plastic spoons at the pool bar. I do think the public areas are in need of a deep clean. Yes you see the staff sweeping and mopping all the time but sometimes that’s not enough if you truly desire 5* status. The sofas in the lobby bar are dirty and in need of a good clean. Raising the standard should not be difficult with all the resources available to Red Sea Holidays if this hotel is to be their flagship hotel. I understand business is business and they are in it to make money but this ‘diamond of a hotel’ does require polishing around the edges and I do hope the management will take note of what I have written.
So what is 5* about the hotel? In two words’……….The Staff. Absolutely fantastic, they cannot do enough to make sure you are happy and without a shadow of doubt is one of the reasons we have been three times. Would I go back, absolutely in a shot. Mr Hanson the general manager and Mr Ibrahim the food and beverage manager are always prowling around ensuring everyone is happy.
Special mention should be made to Mr Ahmed at the front desk, thank you so much for the arrangements prior to the start of the holiday. Ibrahim, Abdullah at the Shimmers’ Mohammad x2 at the Asian, El Sayed and his team at the lounge bar, Ashley and Ibrahim Azez at the Tapas and finally Neghi at the pool bar fantastic service, thank you all and we will see you all soon. Shukran gazeelan.

Stayed here for first 12 days of March as a group of 10 and we were all very disappointed. Having read past reviews, we were expecting something very special but sadly this was not forthcoming. The rooms were excellent, very spacious and our room attendant Ali was so nice and nothing was too much trouble for him. The food was very disappointing, quality of food in the buffet restaurant was very poor, nearly always cold and hardly anything was marked so you didn't know what you were eating. Best restaurants were the Asian in the hotel and the Chinese and French in the Makadi Mall. The paella in the Spanish Tapas bar was disgusting, just like rice pudding in a chicken stock. Biggest complaint is that there is only one bar that can be used of a night. Although all inclusive we understand that premium imported alcohol is charged for but the Lobby Bar charges for everything, even the local stuff and tea and coffee. When the weather was bad for a few days and the rain was lashing down, we were told that we would have to use the pool bar for drinks and coffee (and get wet and cold) or else pay for it, not good enough. Quite often during the day the pool bar ran out of tonic and other drinks and for a "premium" hotel we were very surprised. Agree with previous report that the guy at the pool bar with colourful shirt was very rude but must admit the rest of the staff were very nice and helpful. It seems that they are not geared up to cater for when the hotel is full and this was the case due to the Germans having to go to Hurghada due to Sharm being banned at this time. Pool towels were changed each evening in your room but there was no facility to change wet towels round the pool so you were stuck with a wet towel for the day. This is definitely not a 5* hotel and does not compare with the Rixos hotel in Sharm where we have stayed on two previous occasions. Spoke to other people who were staying at the Grand and Palace hotel on site who said that they were terrible and they would never go back again. How it can call itself Makadi Spa when the Spa does not exist is beyond me. Would never go back.

Just returned from a lovely week at the Makadi Spa. The hotel is beautiful, and our room (a junior suite) was excellent - very spacious, with a huge comfortable bed, sitting area, and a double balcony, half under cover and half in the sun, with views over the beach. Large bathroom with bath and shower, only issue was that the bath was so big, you would have to wait for about an hour for it to fill. All kept really nice and clean. Beach towels were provided and changed every day.
There were four a la carte restaurants as well as the regular 'World' restaurant, and the option of dining at the restaurants at the other hotels if that wasn't enough. We couldn't be bothered, as it was a bit of a palava to book those, so tried the asian - very good, the fish restaurant - very good, and the tapas bar - disappointing. The world restaurant is what I have come to expect from all-inclusive deals. Lots of choice and pretty reasonable quality. My only issue was that service was rather sporadic for getting drinks. Cups of tea at breakfast were small, and you had to catch a waiter to get them refilled. Dirty plates however, were removed almost as soon as you put your knife down!
Swimming pools were good. One large one, which was heated, and an infinity pool that wasn't. As the weather wasn't brilliant, they were not over used, and we much preferred the sea, as the reef was immediately outside the hotel, which provided us with hours of fun snorkelling. The variety and numbers of fish were amazing. Its the first time we've been to the red sea, so I don't know how it compares to other sites, but compared with the Med and the Aegean it was brilliant
Most of the guests were middle aged, with a small smattering of under 35s, so the evening entertainment was quiet and understated. The hotel complex is about a 30 minute taxi drive to Hurghada and night life - so don't come here if you're looking for a riotous club atmosphere!
The only really negative for this hotel was that they seemed to have an issue with their power supplies, not a problem in the day, but at night it made eating difficult, and navigating the hotel in the dark was not fun, so maybe pack a torch.

Room Tip: second floor rooms have good views,

This was our first trip to Eygpt and after a lot of research decided to book 5 star Makadi Spa Hotel. We have both travelled extensively. On arrival at the hotel we were pleased with what we saw,our junior suite was spacious and clean overlooking the pool.
However our enthusiasm soon disappeared .Over the 7 days were found the food in the buffet poor.
We decided to eat in the various Ala Carte restaurants the rest of the week again these were not 5 star standard.Menus were on laminated sheets ,various dishes were not available. In the tap pas restaurant 5 of the dishes we were served we 're served on chipped china. In the fish restaurant I ordered fish cake and as I cut into it found a hair inside.
We tried both the local brandy & vodka which personally we found to be awful.
My husband is diabetic the only sugar free drink when available is pepsi.
We felt that the insistence of receiving a tip by the staff intimidating.
You have to pay for all alcoholic drinks in the Lobby bar as this is not included in the all inclusive.
One afternoon the weather was poor no fault of the hotel but the only place open to drink was the poolside bar as we needed to be inside we approached the on duty manager and asked him where we could get our drinks from he said outside after some discussion he reluctantly agreed that we could drink in the Lobby bar with no charge in comfort.
On arrival the pool towels in our room were new as the week went by we ended up with old towels.
We reported that both shower heads in the bathroom were broken & that the top came off the tap,the maintenance men could not fix the tap and did not have new shower heads so nothing was done.
My husband was woken in the early hours one morning with furniture been moved around above us,we later established that it had been the cleaners.
This hotel is also situated under the flight path to the airport and on some days there is some disturbance.
It is truly a shame that this hotel has not got things right it would only take a little tweaking it has the potential.

Room Tip: Avoid a room over the dining room as they start to prepare for breakfast at 6.30am and apparently th...

We stayed from the 28th of Feb to 7th March and I can only say that it was the best holiday I have had. Makadi Spa is an opulent hotel. Truly 5*

I think we had the best room in the hotel (6242) and any rooms up to 6247 will be the same. They were spacious, the bed was hugh and very comfortable. There was a spacious living area and adjacent was the veranda living area followed by a sunning area. The bathroom and shower area were a pleasure to use.

The views are terrific, the staff are pleasant and really cant do enough for you. The resort is sprawling and made up of 5 other hotels of varying star ratings but Makadi Spa is truly the jewel. Its policy of over 16's only, really helps to create a peaceful ambiance. High standards of cleanliness are evident both within the hotel and throughout the resort.

Within the resort (5 hotels) there are loads of eateries which you can access, some just for lunch, others for the evening and some for in between. Far too many to be counted.

I must mention Mohammed, El Sayed and Osama from the Animations bar who entertained us every night and plied us with their wonderful cocktails. Possibly the best Tapas bar called the Taberna is managed by Ibrahim who made us very welcome. Lunch at the Mexican restaurant is a must. The food is superb and Ahmed the manager pulled out all the stops to make us comfortable. The Cove is another must try venue for Lunch.

We went on the Bedouin day tour (recommended) which included camel and horse rides plus go carting and the high light, Quad bikes. Wasim, the guide for the day was exceptionally good.

The infinity pool is breath taking and the beaches are lovely. Take your snorkeling gear and just walk out into the sea (yes walk) to see the water gardens. Walk through the resort at night and smell the Jasmine fragrance that fills the air from the hundreds of shrubs planted all over the place.

I can truly say that a week is not long enough to see and do all the things that Makadi has to offer. I cant wait to go back.

Room Tip: Rooms 6242-6247. All face east and look over the infinity pool.

Have been here for one week, the first full week of March. The weather was pretty terrible, 4 sunny days and the rest were cloudy, windy and wet days. The hotel as such was fine. Beautiful rooms (albeit the airco produced a gasoil smell), nice restaurants and good service. Due to the fact that the hotel was full for the first time (550 pax, 350 staff) because of the Sharm situation service was not optimalised. We didn't get a drink when checking in in the night, didn't even get a welcome paper. Nevertheless they tried to do their best.
Food was fine, didn't get sick. Drinks were also good. Guests of Makadi Spa may use all bars and restaurants of the 3 other Red Sea hotels.
Spa not finished, 2 hammams will be ready by the end of this year, other facilities are postponed since there are no investors willing to fund 1 mln. Euro. The Dutch hotel manager, Mr. Hanssen, was very open about this. Not all rooms of the hotel were ready, they were still building. The whole situation in Makadi Bay is frustrating; while all Red Se hotels were full other hotels were almost empty. The only people that obviously aren't afraid of the Egyptian situation are the Russians. They didn't bother us by the way. In August last year only 40 guests were present!
What they could improve is the creation of a nice terrace for the evening with some music. Near the Spanish restaurant is a lounge bar, but the terrace was used together with that of the restaurant.
In The World you'll have your breakfast. You can make your own orange juice but this leads to sticky fingers. Some water with lemon could help you out. But wasn't there.
Mini bar is AI but when nobody refills it... Don't think this is a great advantage: two small bottles of water, 2 cans of beer, bottle of Pepsi and a bottle of Pepsi and 7-Up!
Except for restaurant the Cove there are no signs that show the way to restaurants and bars.
Most of the employees where friendly to very friendly except for the guy in white that takes your orders at the Spanish restaurant and a guy at the infinity pool bar with a colourfull shirt. They spoil it for the rest of the crew!
All in all a good holiday. Finally a hotel with coffee that is fine. We'll come back!
