Booked this hotel looking for a very quiet and relaxed week away and that is just what we got! Be aware that this resort is made up of 2 hotels, Stella Beach and Stella Gardens (they are literally a 5 min walk apart). When booking through Thomas Cook, they use the same pictures for both so it can be confusing which one you are going to! We thought we had booked Stella Beach and ended up in Stella Gardens and all I can say is thank goodness! Stella Gardens is a lovely hotel, its fairly new and is very spacious both outside and in the rooms. The staff work incredibly hard to keep the gardens looking perfect and they are constantly cleaning and tidying. The pool areas in the Garden hotel are far superior to those in the Beach hotel with lovely sand all around where the sunbeds. There are 7 pools available with kids pools, lively animation pools and our favourite the relaxing pool which is very quiet :). The rooms are a good size and the bathrooms are huge with both a walk in shower and a bath.

There are 2 buffet restaurants and 4 a la carte to choose from. The buffet rotates around different themes each night and there is a large choice of well cooked and well flavoured food. We only tried the Lebanese a la carte which I would definately recommend.

The staff are friendly and although one or 2 can be a little over powering the majority just want to pass the day with you and say hello. Particular thanks to Badir in the lobby bar who always made us smile, Yasser in the Gardens buffet restaurant and also our room guy whose name I didn't catch but he always greeted us with a smile and left us amazing towel art!

Majority of guests don't tip in this resort and you will find that dollar / euro tips go a long way to getting even better service.

The snorkelling is good and the sea is amazingly warm!

Sunbeds - yes people do reserve some at silly o'clock but this is not the hotels fault. They can't possibly monitor all of the sunbeds to make sure people aren't leaving towels out! We were normally out at the pools by 8am and never had a problem getting beds where we wanted.

As with all hotels there are a couple of improvements that could be made...

More seating on the balcony areas of the beach as these are lovely places to sit in the evenings.
Sounds silly but one day the strawberry jam was watered down at breakfast, please don't do this it was horrible!
It would be good if some of the a la carte restaurants could open for breakfast / lunch just for a change of scenery.
More sunbeds... I don't think the resort was anywhere near full occupancy but it was still difficult for people to get sunbeds after around 10am.
Understand that you have to cater for the masses in the restaurants, but more localised food would be a lovely!

Generally I don't return to hotels more than once but if I was looking for a chilled week away again I would be happy to return here.

Room Tip: If you liek peace and quiet ask for a room near the relaxing pool...

we stayed for a week at the stella gardens , you can use both hotels which was great , i think markardi looks a bit scruffy and could do with painting . our room was great and air con was lovely and cool , with comfy bed and decent tv . food ok in main resturant , lebonese and chinese resturants were amazing . got a bit fed up with foreign children not being supervised by there parents , nearly had to save one from drowning as we were only adults around !!!!
and of course the lack of manners from the germans !!! you have been warned !! otherwise a fab holiday and id definatley go back .

Room Tip: stay near the beach at stella gardens

We had 2 fantastic weeks at the Stella Beach.Everything was really good the staff are friendly helpful and very accomodating. t he last few days of our stay we found it very busy but we always managed to get served okay in the restuarants quite quicky.and the choice of foods was really good something to suit all tastes i think .most nights had a theme there was even an english night with roast beef and yorkshires. The bartender on the cocktail bar could have had some help serving as you had to wait sometimes 15 mins.Always plenty of sunbeds available on the beach but if you wanted a good spot by the pools you had to get there really early but we went to the beach everyday, excellent snorkelling at the end of the jetty.we had a good room very big and spacious it was number6024 and our cleaning boy was really nice he did an excellent job loved his artwork with the towels.i managed to get the dreaded bad stomach cramps but after a costly visit with the doctor i was soon better. We went on some of the thomas cooke excursions Glass bottom boat was excellent so was the sand buggies and the trip to mahaymia island Also did the 2 day trip to Luxor which is well recommended that was the only time was with any english people because english are very few in stella beach. In the rooms is a very good hair dryerand wall magnifying mirror and something else we have never seen befor in all inclusive resorts mugs in the breakfast room which is handy because you can tatke them to your room for your stay iof youve took kettle and teabags we took our own mugs but found we didnt have to also plenty of teabags available.all in all we found the whole of our 2 weeks stay very very comfortable enjoyable and very relaxing. The weather was hot hot hot 38 most days one thing did surprize us though sun goes down about 5-30 and its dark by 6-30 so the nights seemed very long and we more day people than night people so it was early to bed and early to rise so we didnt miss too much sun.take beach shoes for the beach has it is rough sand especially walking down to the sea which is quite a way out.there are lots of shops at the resort but we didnt go to them til the last dayjust to get a couple of souveniers they do pester you a bit to go in the shops and haggle which does become a bit of a pain because i just like to look at my leisure and i would have bought more stuff if i wasnt pestered. So if ever i go to Egypt again i would certainly come to stell beach well recommended

Room Tip: the 6ooo block is an excellent location.

Staying in May 38+oC average, warm wind by night, about 25oC, very nice indeed!

We stayed at the Stella Gardens, (ajoining Stella Beach, it's sister hotel), the Gardens is the modern addition to the complex. Very glad we did, there are about 6 pools and it's quieter, there is a chill out pool where you don't get animation staff selling things.

The Stella Beach part of the hotel is a more a classic style, very pretty but there are less places to get away. The staff bother you on the beach, round the pool and at the bars. Selling massages, (which we would have bought anyway, but don't know if I'd recommend), as well as excursions and their beach party nights (twice a week, normal disco, i think is every night, though we didn't go to that).

Rooms in the Gardens Hotel very modern, bathroom was stunning. Avoid the tap water, 1 new bottle put in your room each day, water coolers around the complex (we used these to refill the bottles, as it's dry heat, you probably get dehydrated easily).

The beach is quite nice, stoney/ sand beach with coral substaite, I advise taking dive style shoes to wade out over the sharp corals and definately a mask/ snorkle to peek under the waves. Don't fear the purple jellies they're harmless.

The beach bar is nice, queues for drinks but very tasty grub, a smile and "Shukran" goes a long way as they are used to serving surly folks. Have the pizzas, they are stunning, OMG I want one of those machines!!!!!

The food at meal times was good, their calamary is really good as are the fresh bread rolls, all buffet style and themed nights. Something for everyone. Avoid the substance that looks like mint sauce on Egyptian night, it is foul!

Book the various resturants at their foyers, usually for the following night, not at reception as advised by our rep.

The top pool bar at the Gardens Hotel lots of fun, very friendly bar staff, Ahmed who works all the bars at times, is very sociable, pool bar also does good food at lunchtime. The bottom pool bar near the Lebanese resturant, is quieter and they were glad to see happy faces. Plus staying in the water means you can avoid getting asked to do bloody volleyball etc.

Do use the in-house "Piano diving club" 4 island snorkling boat trip. Don't have any concerns as they will look after you. You leave from the jetty, so you don't have to get a coach to town first. It is spectacular, loads of corals and fish galore. 4 stops, one I think was called Marmaya "pardise" island, golden sand and stunning water. I didn't use the flippers on the trip after the first stop, (too ungainly). Trip cost about £30 each in the end. Bargain.

Take Euros, (preferably with you, as the cash machines are strange and are only in the Beach hotel). I say euros as everyone there is German, Italian or Russian and it's much easier to tip and see the prices.

The shop owners at the Beach resort are very pushy, except poor Ibrahim, but he's buried in the middle of the stores so people probably run away before getting to him. The shops at the Gardens are sparce but if you only want sun cream or ciggies, go there.

The bus between the 2 hotels, we never had to wait more than 5 mins to get one. (trip of about 5 mins). Due to this we happily stayed at the Gardens and never felt far from the beach. The walk would be about 15mins from reception of the Gardens hotel to the beach itself. If you feel like the walk, go through the Gardens, turn right at the bottom of the hotel and go along the road, don't try and cut through as the part between the 2 complexes is the staff accomadation, we tried on night one after a beach party and were redirected.

Room Tip: we had a room in the 2000s, block in middle of complex, lower numbers would be closer to reception and bus, maybe for view of shows without being roped into stuff, but noisier.

Just got back from Egypt in the early hours of the morning and thought I would write about it while its fresh in my mind. We had wanted to go to Egypt and decided to go to Hurghada instead of Sharm as it gives you a lot more options for exploring and getting a bit of culture in Cairo or Luxor. There is not a great deal around the hotel but there is a shuttle bus that goes into Hurghada centre if you've had enough of the beach or pools.

The Stella Makadi is made up of two sites, beach and gardens. Obviously the beach is right next to the beach and the gardens are set behind, easily walkable but there is a free shuttle bus that goes all day every day between the two. This was great because sometimes it was just too hot for a walk no matter how leisurely! We stayed in the gardens resort which is the newer of the two sites. The rooms were fantastic, a lot bigger than I expected and the bed was massive and really comfortable. The bathroom had a seperate bath and shower which and the whole room was kept spotless by the cleaning staff.

The pools at the gardens were fantastic as they are pretty new. The pools at the beach site were also good but maybe a little tatty round the edges where a few tiles have broken off over the years. This didn't matter to us as it was safe and clean and that was more important than aesthetics. There are so many pools that you could lay by a different one every day, thats if you can beat the germans and the russians to the sunbeds! The private beach was well maintained and lots of room, plenty of sunbeds too. Towel service is great because you don't have to worry about packing your own towels and can save on weight. They give you a card per person for towels when you check in and you swap the cards for beach towels. There is a towel station next to every major pool and on the beach and also a pool attendant by nearly all of the pools to help with the manouvre of sunbeds etc.

The main buffet restaurant at the gardens was great, there was a lot of choice and it was different every night for two weeks. It might not suit everyone's tastes but there's always something for everyone. The food is beautifully presented and they do a different theme each night. We ate at all the other a la carte restaurants, I would definately recommend getting up early to book though or you might be disappointed as they are very popular. The food in these restaurants was some of the best I've ever eaten. The head chef could be found every meal in one of the restaurants and he was such a nice guy! He was so proud of his food and asked us every day how everything was. You could tell he cared so much about whether we enjoyed it and he told us a lot of background about the egyptian dishes.

I can honestly say that the staff in this hotel were the best anywhere we have every stayed in any country. When they clicked on that we were English they were so chatty and friendly. The waiters in the garden buffett restaurant were exceptional, they were literally tripping over themselves to get you drinks. After 2 weeks we felt like family and were on first name terms with a lot of the waiters. I was so sad to leave them and have swapped email addresses with one so that we can keep in touch.

On the beach there are a lot of people walking round advertising and selling trips and services which I know some people find annoying. They didn't annoy us at all, the trips they advertise are genuinely really good and they are also really nice people. We made good friends out of a few of them and really enjoyed chatting to them. Even if you didn't book a trip with them they were quite happy just to chat. We booked with Thomas Cook and they have their own trips and excursions which are great if you want to go to Cairo or Luxor but for the local trips I would reccommend you book with the guys on the beach. They need the money much more than Thomas Cook and offer much cheaper prices and are just as safe and reliable. We went on a snorkelling boat trip which was fantastic, so many beautiful fish and the coral further out towards Giftun island was stunning. We also went quad biking and horse riding in the desert and had a massage at the spa. They were all value for money and a great experience which helped make our holiday great fun.

I would definately reccomend this hotel to everyone whether you are going as a couple, family or a group you will have a great time. The Egyptian people really were the icing on the cake for us, we weren't sure what to expect but they were the most welcoming and friendly people I have ever met. I would go back time and time again just to see some of the people! A fantastic holiday, definately money well spent.

Room Tip: Rooms are newer and cheaper at the Gardens than at the beach and also have a better bathroom.
