“Shuttle and Management will keep from ever coming back...”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 6, 2012

We missed our connecting flight and had to spend the night in Newark, New Jersey. The airlines recommended this Fairfield Inn. There is a Fairfield Inn that is MUCH closer that I would totally recommend. We had to call for the WoodBridge Fairfield to come to the airport (40-50 minutes one way trip). When they arrived we were shoved off the shuttle by passengers (who had not called but wanted to go to the Courtyard...close to the Woodbridge Fairfield). We complained to the shuttle driver but she did not have any control over the situation. We called the hotel but they said the driver was in charge. We ended up taking a $52 + tip taxi ride to the hotel. Upon our arrival to the hotel, I shared my story with the night manager. He was horrible. He kept interrupting me, showing no compassion or empathy and took no ownership to the situation. I asked for a refund of my cab fare and he refused.
Please do yourself a big favor and find another hotel.

Having flown many hundreds of thousands of miles, I can attest that flight delays and missed connections are almost never pleasant, and can be quite disorienting and nerve wrecking. We work with carriers to provide a comfortable, relaxing and safe sanctuary when there are unavoidable delays. We try our best to make sure that our guests have as enjoyable a stay at our hotel as possible, especially because it was not their choice to stay on a particular night.

One of the most satisfying feelings that I get as a hotel manager is speaking with guests after they have experienced delays and frustrations, but hearing that they enjoyed their time at our hotel.

We address our guests' concerns and when we are wrong we will go out of our way to make things right, whether by fixing the situation or by offering to make amends. Due to guest privacy concerns I cannot comment on much that the review says. Based on the wording, however, it is clear that the reviewer went on a shuttle bus to the wrong hotel, a situation that made this person’s trip only more frustrating (we do not take passengers to other hotels, including the Courtyard). Under these circumstances, it is impossible for me to justify paying for expenses for which we did not cause.

My recommendation to travelers under similar circumstances is to (a) make certain that they have the correct name and telephone number for the hotel, and (b) verify that information when they get on an airport shuttle. I myself recently stepped onto the wrong hotel’s shuttle bus, which is quite easy considering the similarity of many hotels’ names (and that the same chain may have multiple properties in the area).

I do hope that the reviewer was able to continue their journey without further interruptions, and arrive at their destination safely.

I am curently at the hotel still and have been a guest since march first. In mid may a new manager was appointed and a few of the front desk faces are also no longer part of the property. it is now july 27th and the changes in attitude and friendlieness has made a significant positive turn around in a few short weeks of these changes. Since i am a permanent fixture in the hotel i can honestly say they have come a long way in a short time. From front desk greetings to their genuine concern for my happiness is the reason i am still here. Most important thing to remember at this location is if you are not happy with anything i mean anything ask the front desk. if it is something they can control they will accomadate you. DONT BE AFRAID TO ASK they are good but still cant read minds rooms are clean and cool (tempature wise) if not say something As far as the location, views and area it is very safe with constant police monitoring i remember staying in the bahamas and once you left the walls of the resort you felt uneasy. iwill not list the names of everyone that is helpfull here , ut i can truly say KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK and be proud that you are part of a team that keeps this one person very happy I have had many oppurtunites to leave this location but finding it hard when they treat you like family. JUST ASK you will feel the same way when you leave the property Hope to see you in the hallways lobby, bar next door or ask for mr. tony il steer you to the best food, entertainment, or business this area has to offer. THANKS

We attended a family reunion near this hotel and spent 6 nights...very clean...wonderful staff...a great place home away from home....it is located on the main highway which makes accessible to many places. Their shuttle will pick you up at the airport or take you to the train station which is a $7.50 ride into NYC. The shuttle runs every hour 24 hours...the only draw back it is located next to a car repair shop which may put people off but we took some great photos of some of the classic cars there....they could handle large crowds also we met a bus load of folks from Cananda and Iowa who were visiting NYC...it is located near Menlo Park Mall and Kmart and Walmart ....we will definitely use this hotel again and it does live up to the Marriot name...thanks youse guys

Room Tip: Ice machine located on 2nd floor we were on the 5th which made it quieter...we also traveled with ha...

Front desk was very nice, and Direct TV with over 100 channels was great. But that was about the extent of it for me. The hotel is in a congested and seedy looking area. The room was definitely on the smaller side, and the TV was very small. The breakfast wasn't nearly as good as you get at many of the other Mariott properties. I would say the hotel is dead average. You could do much worse, and you could do much better.

Dear Matt:

First, thank you for pointing out the positives during your stay with us. We pride ourselves in the friendliness, and professionalism, of all of our staff. And we appreciate that you noticed our new DirecTV service!

Our room sizes range from standard, which is adequate for a king size bed or two double beds, through our executive rooms, which are a bit larger (and have a refridgerator and microwave), to our executive suites, with a sitting area (and a pull-out sofa) and two televisions. We find that people like the range and selection of our rooms.

As for the television, our new flat-screen TVs are 32 inches. This is a good compromise for comfortable viewing at the width of the room, as well as not taking up too much space.

We do like to hear honest feedback, both positive and critical, and hope that you stay with us in the future (and that we exceed your expectations).

We stayed at this hotel because there were no other rooms to be had. After many hours on 95 we needed sleep. We called many places but due to drill weekend or graduations there were no rooms.Ijust pulled in off the highway. The front desk clerk was fantastic she found us a room with a king sized bed at a good rate. They did not take advantage of us because we were desperate and dead tired. This hotel mst have been recently remodeled because the rooms, lobby and all areas has that crispness and finish of new constuction. The breakfast was O.K but we stay at a lot chains that serve this style of morning food it is so bland and cookie cutter. It was good ,well kept and plentifull yet boring.Overall this hotel was very good.

Front staff and breakfast team were great to deal with. We came down to breakfast 30 minutes after they had stopped serving. Without asking twice they asked us what we wanted and brought out the food. This was our fault, but you would not have known that we were an inconvenience.

Rooms were recently redone and very very nice and clean.

Tip: they have a free shuttle to the train station 5 minutes away that will take you in NYC.

My stay at this hotel was fair but I can say the Desk Staff is GREAT (Willamenia) She is very nice, professional and wonderful when it comes to taking care of a guest. This hotel is really nice and the Breakfast attendant is nice too. My big problem is the Manager/Supervisor at the desk LACKS Management skills. The way they talk to guests is unbelievable!! I have stayed at many Marriott Hotels and this one I will never return to. Not every guests wants something for "FREE" and their mentality is that there. Sad, very sad. Maybe change in Management will be good starting with the Supervisor/Manager 1st. Great desk staff because they really try. Going above for a guest is never a wrong choice. The area is not bad, even though the hwy is there. Nice hotel otherwise.
