My friend and I arrived for a 10 night stay in September and I had reasonable expectations of the hotel after reading the reviews but none of these actually compared with the reality! The transfer time from Hurghada airport is about 10 minutes.

The hotel looks impressive from the outside but even more impressive once you walk into the lovely lobby area! We were quickly shown to our room which was on the 4th Floor and had lovely views over the pool and sea. The room was really spacious with a nice dressing area and a good sized balcony!

The service we received at the hotel was excellent and what impressed me most was that the staff didn't expect to be tipped, unlike other hotels where “baksheesh” seems to be the most over used word!! The main restaurant (Tamarind) was busy at breakfast but always easy to get a table and there was always fresh food being put out on the buffet, even at 9.45am. We only ate in the Tamrind once in the evening (we had only booked bed and breakfast as if you were all inclusive or half board this was main dinner restaurant) and there was plenty of selection but I am not a huge fan of a buffet for a main meal. The other restaurants in the hotel were always busy and the food was great and what added to the ambiance was the location by the beach!

The pool area was lovely with the salt water pool nice and warm and the main pool slightly cooler! The lazy river was a lovely way to pass 10minutes or so!! Sun loungers were often reserved fairly early in the morning but it was still not a problem in finding a sunbed and the pool staff were great about insisting they found you a bed and laid out your towel. A special mention should go to Ossama who worked at the pool bar and was serving drinks around the pool, he was constantly on the go and always found time to check if we needed anything and kept us well topped up with drinks and ice creams.

There were two bars in the lobby and we mainly used the Karibu bar (at the far end on the left hand side of the lobby) which was just down below our room and the staff were great and always ensured our drinks were topped up and that we had a plentiful supply of crisps and nuts! The only downside was that there was a gentleman playing the piano in the lobby every evening from around 7pm til 10pm. This was lovely for the first couple of evenings but by the 10th night of mainly the same music became a little bit annoying. It would have been nice to hear a few different tunes or have someone else play for some of the evenings.

On our last day we weren’t able to have a late check out as the hotel was full but were able to use the spa facilities to change before leaving which was great. The only issue was that there was no where we could put our handbags/hand luggage which contained our passports, phones, purses etc. The suitcases were put into the luggage room but even the porter asked us to confirm we had no cameras etc in any of the bags we left, which did leave us slightly worried. It seemed a shame we were able to use a locker in the spa for our valuables as there weren’t many in use, but the spa wouldn’t let us have a locker.

I couldn’t fault the hotel for cleanliness and there was always a member of staff in sight cleaning something and we noticed that there was nearly always two guys in the pool keeping that clean and the spa windows were cleaned on the outside twice a day!!

We ventured out of the hotel regularly to get dinner and went to the Marina a couple of times. The Marina is lovely with a nice atmosphere and great selection of restaurants (the Blue Elephant Thai restaurant was fantastic and great value). Watch out though for the taxi drivers! You have to constantly haggle over the price and even though we had been told to pay around LE15 to LE20, we never managed to get a one way trip below LE30. Also be careful if you do visit the Marina, the local taxi drivers seem to run a scan whereby they say “You pay LE50 so you give me LE100 and I will give you LE50 in change” they then insist you’ve only given them LE10 and demand you pay more. Make sure you have the amount of money you want to pay for a taxi in your hand and don’t give them any more!!! Alternatively if you didn’t fancy braving the taxi’s if you turned left out of the hotel there were a number of restaurants and shops. The Hard Rock Café was a 5 minute walk and served some great cocktails!

I would certainly not hesitate to come back here again as it was the little extras that made this stay special. Things like a 1.5litre bottle of water in your room every night, cold flannels handed out round the pool in the afternoon, fruit or hibiscus juice sometimes handed out round the pool in the afternoon and we even had some baklava style cakes put in out room one evening!! In addition to the great hotel and fabulous service, we didn’t see a cloud in the sky for 10 days!

Room Tip: My top tip would be to ask for a high floor as the view is lovely. If you want peace and quiet then ensure your room is away from the lobby as you can hear the man playing the piano in the evening and sometimes hear people first thing in the morning.

This hotel is for everyone. The rooms are clean, have wonderful views. The choice of food is the best ive seen here in Egypt and abroad. What a fantastic idea to have a lazy river, my daughter absolutely loved it and you know 14 year olds are the most picky of all!.. We only had 3 nights in Hurghada, i wish we stayed longer, this was truly a resort!! Even though our stay started out with dramas, as our booking was apparently cancelled, management gave us the presidental suite for the first night as to not leave us stranded and the rest of the stay went smoothly. The only negative i can give this hotel is that they dont offer free internet unless you are on a full inclusive, we had Half Board which is Breakfast and Dinner and there i would have thought it should have also been included for free...but i guess the time spent out by the pools was a good trade off :) The best bargains are found just outside the hotel at "Cleopatras Bazaar ", they have 2 floors with everything from nic nacks to handbags, all are fixed prices so there's no need to haggle. They are heaps cheaper than most other bazaars in Egypt, best to go after dinner as it is a lot cooler.
Overall I would definately return to the Steigenberger Al Dau Beach Hotel; just wish it wasnt so far away from Australia!

Room Tip: We stayed on both the south and north side, the presidental suite had a seperate living room with views both over the golf course and the ocean if your willing to pay the 2000 Egyptian Pound a night,. The standard twin we had was on the 5th floor and had a nice view to the sea and overlooking the pools

Тhis is the best hotel in which I was until now. Great food, great view, great staff. We were there two years ago 09.2009 for our honeymoon, It was wonderful.
I recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to enjoy the luxury and tranquility.
And one small advise-rent a room with sea view and a higher floor.

Room Tip: Higher floors and rooms with sea view are the best!

The Steigenberger Al Dau Beach is one of the most luxurious hotels in Hurghada. The transfer from the airport to the hotel took only a few minutes. After the arrival we first were stunning about the giant hotel lobby. The architecture is really impressive. When entering our room I immediately noticed the cleanliness and the spacious bright atmosphere of our room. The view from the balcony over the red sea was phantastic. The pool area offers an active pool as well as a lazy river. The service was in every part of the hotel fast and friendly. Tips are welcome but not mandatory. Diving is available from the diving school. I also can recommend the snorkeling excursion.

This was our 10th visit to Egypt staying in many 5* hotels, this was without a doubt the best we have yet stayed in. The food was varied always hot and replenished as needed. Service was fantastic, a special mention to Romany Fayez Yoseph who made sure our glasses never ran dry throughout the day, what amazing special mojito's he made with extra rum...Every hotel should be made to have a lazy river, we spent many hours daily floating around. Shops 2 min walk to the right of the hotel, made a nice change to go out without too much hassle. Will without a doubt recommend this hotel to friends and family, and hope to return ourselves next year.
