“good and bad”
Reviewed May 26, 2007

We chose this hotel as a good rapport price-offer. I must say that I find hotel room ok after changing 3 rooms (first was like a closet small and no window just a door to a terrace with view to a building under construction, and second smelling terrible insecticides). After that I try not to complain too much about the air conditioning (2 speed min and max), the beach towels that always seems filthy. the optional trips were amazing :Cairo (pyramids, sphinx, Egyptology museum),the kings valley, the nil cruise, the snorkeling trip, ATV safari in desert, trip with bottom glass boat(just a small window were you can see something only if the boat is stop). The hotel is nice and staff like everywhere some nice some rood. The pool is amazing; also you must try the hard rock café near buy. Too bad about the beach small hidden with a filthy water and rusted pipes near. Also the food was plenty but tasteless. Once you stop seeing all this details and concentrate at having a good time after all you came here for the history and the magnificent red sea the impression in general is good .I was impressed by the people very poor and hard working.

Stayed in this hotel in January 2006, so this one is going in a bit late, as it was not around on the trip advisor website back then. The hotel is not bad on the whole. The hotel staff are friendly, which makes up for some of the clientel, mainly 85% Russian. So if you don't get on with them, just keep yourself to yourself, like I did and no harm will come your way.
As I was out all day diving with Emperor Divers, who were based in The Hilton, just up the road literally, I only used the hotel as a B&B. The breakfast was okay, nothing to really rave about. The evening meal was not good, so I ate out all remaining nights which suited me fine.
Generally the hotel could do with a slight overhaul, like new room furniture, as mine was falling apart, my bathroom was okay. I left a tip for the cleaner on my first night £100LE and got some very good service from him, like anything I wanted. I tipped the baggage handler the same, and had some good chats with him on the door of the hotel. As my arabic is quite good, I had a pretty good reception on the whole from both the hotel staff and the locals outside the hotel.
However, I did enjoy Hurghada in general and I am thinking of buying an apartment there, but I would spend an extra £100 (UK) and stay in the Hilton Hotel up the road.
Good luck.

  • Liked — Good friendly staff and location, good swimming pool.
  • Disliked — A bit run down, poor evening meals, poor beach and not the nicest of clientel

We have just returned from a week in the Sultan Beach Hotel in Hurghada. After reading reviews of this hotel by other travellers our party of 5 including family from Australia had reservations about what we were going to.As we fought or way through organised chaos at the airport ,we wondered if this type of pandemonium existed everywhere in Egypt. We finally found our representative who then ushered us to our transfer coach with amazing professionalism considering the melee that greeted us as we arrived. We were a little surprised to see how close the hotel was to the airport and we thought that we were going to hear noisy planes taking off and landing at all hours as we found out during our stay that was not the case..We entered the hotel and our first impressions were that of splendour as we found that the reception area was bright, clean and airey. The reception staff were very friendly and helpful, then along came a bellhop and took both us and our cases to our rooms and didn't leave us until he had made sure that everything was to our liking and we were satisfied with the room. During our stay here we found the Hotel to be very clean and tidy, the staff were extremely polite and helpful at all times as nothing was too much trouble for them. The pool and activity areas were immaculate and well kept.,but alas as for the food i feel i must agree with some other travellers it was the same menu nearly every day and every night,If you like chicken, beef, fish and rice then the food will be to your liking. I would like to see at least a seperate area for children where they can at least have a choice of food that kid's like to eat.Overall our experience of The Sultan Beach was very good and although i have written this review i would like to say that if you read reviews that other travellers have written do not take everything they say as gospel but keep an open mind and judge for yourself on your arrival

Was impressed with the transfer time from the airport to the hotel and again with the lobby although I agree with the other reviewer - the reception staff seemed to have always have "a face" on them.

The rooms are nice and big but in need of modernisation and there were no english language channels on the TV

The food was diabolical - catering mainly for the Russian and Eatern European clientiele - if stale pastries and omlettes cooked in an inch of cooking oil are your thing then you'll love it.

The beach is laughable and the pool area is crammed ( you need to get out and get your towel, book, bag ect down by 9am if you want a sunbed, although this doesnt always guarantee you one as we regularly saw Russian guys throwing peoples stuff off the sun beds and dragging them to where they wanted and then setting them up for themselves)

The pool was dirty and the pool bar stools were broken and I cut my leg bad enough so that I still have a slight scar.

We found the male staff to be overly attentive, if you know what I mean and not in a good way! Twice we were aksed if we could be escorted back to our rooms! Yes we were two girls travelling together alone, but this seemed to be a red rag to a bull. We DID NOT sunbathe topless with only a thong bikini bottom on like alot of the Russian girls and always covered up as soon as we sat up or went to the bar, but it didnt matter!

If you do stay here, the best thing to do at night is to go the the bar across the road -used to be called Big Brother - still might be - Romeo is the best guy there - he was warm, entertaining and funny - without being sleazy, become his friend and you will get the stongest cocktails in all the land!

If you end up with a very cheap deal then this hotel is ok to be a base while you explore, but dont pay alot!

  • Liked — the size of the rooms
  • Disliked — the food, the rude russian tourists and the sleazy hotel staff

My best friend and i have just returned from a short break to this hotel in Hurghada. It was our first time to Egypt, and quite honestly we didn"t know what to expect(especially after reading some horific and off putting reviews on various websites!),and being two women travelling alone.
However, all our worries and fears were very quickly forgotten within minutes of landing at Hurghada airport.
We sailed through the arrival lounge, collected our luggage and filled in our visas(£15) and were in a taxi all within 25minutes of landing!(much quicker than any other airport ive ever been to)
The hotel "sultan beach resort" is about 5 minutes drive from the airport and cost £2 in taxi.
The hotel is beautifull, the staff are extremely friendly and very attentive(and yes they expect tips for everything!!) but they certainly earn them in my opinion. The pool is huge, with loads of sunbeds and a very small man made beach on site(this beach is tiny, and you have to be on it by 9am at the latest to get a sunbed)we didn"t bother, and stade by the hotel pool.
The food is buffet style, beautifully arranged and a very good choice, all the staff were lovely.
This hotel has mainly russian and german guests, but there were also dutch and a few english families when we were there, but we got the impression that they dont see many english people, and so they were very happy to chat with us and ask us all about England with genuine interest.
All in all,i would highly reccomend this hotel, and Hurghada in general.Just be prepaired to get hassled in the shops, and be forever handing out tips!!(even in the public toilets!!)
We are going again in October.........cant wait to get back there.

  • Liked — clean,spacious and good staff
  • Disliked — the private beach......too small

Hello All,

just came back from a holiday in Sultan Beach, and as I saw there are not many reports about this hotel, I thought it would be helpful for somebody else to have some info about this hotel.
We were reccomended this hotel one day before we left, since the Holiday Inn cancelled our rezervation (nice, eh?). we were told that this hotel is in the same category, but I am not sure it is.
We are not the 5 start kind of people, we were going for our dives anyway, however, some things were quite disappointing.
Annyway, the hotel is located in a place where they build a new boulevard and buildings so, the image is very depressing, looks like Beirut nowdays.
We arrived in the evening and our voucher was for a seaview room. The guy at the reception was pretty bored and not very nice to us. The room was not a seaview one, therefore when we went to change it next day, the people in reception were quite aggressive to us. Unexpected, as we always got well with egiptians! After we tipped one of them, suddenly only smiles and nice words. The room we have got in the end was sea view, but no toilet paper - and we had to begg for one, some problems with the pipes in the bathroom, therefore a very nasty smell and the bathroom used to become a swimming pool everytime we were taking a shower.
Food was very disappointing - russian menu, I guess, as it was full of russians, czeck and polish, all of them happy with their vodka. Food had no taste, and sometimes it looked like it was cooked from one day to another.
The beach in front is not really a beach, it is kind of a chanel and the water is always durty. You need to swim a lot in the open sea so to get a a clear water. The next beach was at 15mins by car.
The swimming pool was very nice and large, however, the water was not very clean. I assume this was also because of some people there. We could overhear some funny comments in Russian made by a group of people sitting at the water bar: "the best thing about this bar is that you drink beer and you do not need to go to the toilet". Hm, not nice.
During one night, at 3 o'clock in the night, we were waken up by a drunk group who started to argue and fight on our floor. We called the reception to send a guard to calm them down, but they said they cannot do much as people were drunk and aggressive.

Overall, if you go to hurghada for a particular purpose as we did (diving big time) then you will not care too much about these aspects, but if you plan a nice holiday at sultan beach, then not really the best place.

  • Liked — room was very large
  • Disliked — the sad and angry faces of the russian and polsh tourists wh never know to smile, who came like for a war not for fun

Stayed in this hotel 7th April for 1 week. Couldn't find any reviews on TA and was apprehensive before we arrived. Hotel overall was very nice - 4* seems appropriate for hotel and grounds - rooms were fine although some better than others.

Food was OK, ate at the buffet every night (only option when half board)but it became a bit samey after a while - chicken, beef or fish.
Pool was fab although still a little cold although the weather was brill.

My only gripe really is that the beach is small, packed and grim. On each side of the small beach, there is a pier that Sultan Beach guests cannot use (security guards won't even let you walk on them) as they each belong to the neighbouring hotels. This makes the water in between like a canal for swimming in - not the red sea that I had in mind. If you walk out further, towards the end of the piers, there are some coral groups in relatively shallow water and a few decent fish to see etc. But there are no evening strolls along the beach, you cannot even walk in front of the other hotels - a big drawback really.

Did the Luxor overnight trip - great value at £95 which includes an overnight stay in the 5* Karnak Sofitel - loved this trip and although tiring, well worth seeing the Valley of the Kings etc. Did the snorkelling trip in Sharm el Naga - fabulous snorkelling with beautiful coral and fish.

Overall good week's holiday, but don't think I would rush back to Sultan beach.
