We have recently came back from Hurghada. Visited the so called Old Town or El Dahar which my partner and me found extremly frustrating. You cannot see local people shopping in the local shops as their prices are sky high and once you are dragged into their shop they expect you to buy something. your local sales rep will advise you to knock the offered prices down by 50% by I advise you to pay only 10 - 15% of the asking price if you fancy something.
AVOID South Africa Leather, the Spice Shop next to it and Cadeau Bazar on Bazars Market. They both all very sophisticated speak fluent English sell fake saffron as real and charge you about 8-10 times of the normal price. They all think tourist from Europe are loaded with money and they are happy to pay any money for their junk. One tried to sell me a plastic bottle opener for £15 and he swore up and down it was a good price
