“Fab time in Hurghada”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 26, 2014 via mobile

Went with a friend to this hotel, first time in hurghada.
Our room was large and overlooked the lovely pool.
The food was very good and drinks excellent.
The grounds at this hotel are lovely, so we'll kept and pretty.
We did a couple of excursions, a boat trip to another island and also the day quad biking which were great.
For the price we paid £390 each all inclusive, it was an fantastic holiday.

Not long back from our first time in Hurghada. (We've always holidayed in Sharm) We booked this hotel as it was on the beach and around the amount of money we were looking to spend for post Christmas break. It was well worth the money.
From the moment we arrived until the moment we left the staff were wonderful. Our house man Karam was fantastic (probably the best house man we've ever had.)
Like other reviews have said it's not 4 star and areas could do with a referb but it's due to wear and tear and is soon overlooked. To be fair I'm more interested in cleanliness rather than a tap losing its sheen ect. The cleanliness was top notch, towels and bedding were spotless and of good quality. Beds comfy and large. Brand new flat screen TV with 3 English movie channels, 2 news channels and MTV. One improvement to the room would be more electric plug sockets but that's only because of modern living and the need to run/charge gadgets.
Plenty of bottles of water were left in our fridge every day and the fridge worked a dream, only had ours on number one and the water was icy cold. Our house man Karam also left us two bottles of water on top of the fridge to make tea with (we'd taken our travel kettle with us)
The front door has a chain on it which I also liked. It's an unnecessary but welcomed small detail.
Trying not to cover all the good points that others have said I'll skip along to the pubic toilets (and for me public toilets are an issue and sum up a hotel right away) I was very impressed by the beach toilets. They were well maintained and stocked by Mohamed, smelt lovely and always had flowers around the hand basins.
Meals: I never went for breakfast but my husband said it was good, Although lacking in porridge (which is strange as it's healthy and cheap but I guess porridge is just a bit too British)
Mostly lunched at the beach. Shared a pizza and a beautifully freshly cut salad by chef of ingredients of your liking. They also do burgers, hotdogs and soup. Or you can lunch at the pool bar, main restaurant or anywhere basically.
Evening meals: Always can find something to eat but better cuts of meat would be better! Bit of a waste of time chef seasoning and beautifully cooking a lump of beef that's only fit for a burger :(
The beach was lovely and very child-friendly -should you take kiddies or not like deep water. We didn't buy beach shoes but there are parts of the beach in all the hotels where you can walk in barefoot and have a swim with the fishes :)
Hope this has been a bit helpful :)

We are leaving tomorrow after staying for three weeks at this hotel on the Red Sea coast with private beach.

Although the hotel is advertised as a 4* it's not, the main reception function area as you walk in is very large football pitch size with restaurants off and an ice skating rink and bowling alley would you believe, it's a very impressive first impression.

I asked receptions for a sunny balcony on the 1st floor and were given that and it's nice and quiet overlooking the main walk to the beach, we are about halfway between the restaurants and the beach so well pleased room 5912.

Gardeners are constantly looking after the garden and it's beautifully kept.

Receptions staff are helpful and polite.

Our room needs updating, the doors and furniture have seen better days about 2 to 3* standard I would guess.

Our cleaners all men do a grand job, the room is cleaned every day beds made clean towels and water left in the fridge so no complaints there. we had a bulb which needed replacing and I didn't need to ask it was done.

The Ali Baba is one of three hotel on this site, the other two are the Aladdin and the Jasmin you are allowed to eat and drink and see the entertainment at all hotels but you will need a card from reception to have dinner.

The Aladdin and Jasmin have smaller restaurants and they are more intimate but the selection of food is not so varied., but still worth a visit.

If you are want 4* restaurant food specially ordered this is not the place for you, this is mass produced quantity cooking for the AI customer market, something like you would get at work in your dinning room there. The food is alright and if you allow for this you will not be disappointed. we only paid £250 per week for the both of us so we think that is a good deal.

The entertainment at the Ali is limited to mainly competitions with a show once a week, nothing on a Saturday or Sunday. There is a lounge with Karaoke mainly in Russian we were the only English couple here for the first two weeks.
The Cave disco next door which we didn't go to but I understand not many people go.

The Aladdin has outside entertainment and a pub called the Abu pub which we found good fun you can dance and there are singers on and it's a fun place if that's your thing.

The Jasmin as outside entertainment and the boards for all three hotel say what's on each night. The entertainment team are very friendly and come round to talk to people.

Down at the beach the three hotels have their own space and beds plus somewhere to eat for lunch, you can go to any one of the eateries without a card and use each other sun loungers and pools. By far the biggest pool is at the Ali but only part of it is warm which also applies to the other pools.
There seems to be more action at the Aladdin pool during the day.

There is Petangue at the beach morning and afternoon and volley ball if that's your thing.

We particularly liked the snorkeling, there is a reef just off the jetty it's only just developing but lots of fish to see of various species and a real plus for the hotel but I was sad to see people actual standing on the reef with no idea what damage they were doing and did ask the hotel to put up a sign asking people not to do this. I wore a wetsuit as the water is quite cold but my husband went without.

At the Ali beach there is a diving shop and windsurfing, the winds can be strong good for windsurfing but not for snorkeling.
A shop where you can purchase days out snorkeling but honestly we did do this and although the reef was good and the fish lovely there were so many boats at the same spot and hundreds of peoples some with no idea how to snorkel thrashing about that I was so disappointed and certainly couldn't recommend it for people who are serious snorkelers.
Don't forget to barter for any trips or anything you want to buy, knock off about a third from the price they say.

The hotel is located out of Hurghada on a road which has dozens of hotels, there are a few tourist shop across the road and a little further which we walked to a mall with the usual shops.

The WIFI/ Internet I thought was expensive at about £3 an hour without any option of buying more hours at a cheaper rate.
I bought a dongle and usage from Vodafone at the Mall which I can use all over Egypt. We move from here to Sharm tomorrow for 3 weeks.

Hurghada town is not much of a place, I guess probably worth one visit, there's a new marina which is done nicely with a walking area and restaurants and a fleet of yachts and a good view of the mosque from there, the old town is much as you would expect.
There is a tourist area which starts from the Egypt Air offices with hotels and restaurants but not well kept and certainly needs maintenance. We walked from there to the marina which is a good walk passing the Marriet hotel (calling in for a visit to the toilets).

There are local busses mini type which you can flag down just outside the hotel we gave the driver 20 e pounds to the old town and the same from the marina main road on the way back.
The taxis outside wanted to charge us £10 to the Egyptair office which we laughed at it's about 10 minutes away. .
We got a flagged down taxi for £2.

If you are going into town try and cover up the hotel tag they give you because the shop lads will try and make out they know you by mentioning the hotel name.
Any harassment just ignore they don't know your language so can't start a conversation.
We had one guy who walked for ages pestering us they can be a nuisance but let it go over your head.

This is an excellent hotel, with excellent staff, especially Sadak (restaurant staff) and Maryam (Guest relations manager). They went above and beyond and really made our holiday a special experience. All the staff were great, the entertainment team were on point and the food was varied and delicious. The only down side were the beggar's/salesmen. Those that constantly pestered you to go on trips or buy this or book that. They do not accept NO for an answer and can make a relaxing holiday, not so relaxing. Also, Imperial Travel, I would not book through them again, they were polite when I was booking the holiday, yet when I had a query their kindness or customer service training went out of the window. This holiday company and the pests in Egypt were the only down side but all in all our trip to Hurghada and The Ali Baba Palace was a real treat

I actually visited this hotel back in May but thought my review may still be beneficially for those who might intend to book. So here is my review in brief highlighted points:

Positives:

- Overall nice hotel with a great pool area. Also, really liked the link to the beach and you could always get a sun lounger.

- Very friendly staff. Could not fault them and were always attentive. Also, they ensured that the hotel was kept clean and were always working very hard.

- Good link to the other sister hotels which makes for an interesting evening stroll. You can also get a voucher to eat at one of the other sister hotels.

- Is on a hotel strip so you can walk to shopping areas in other hotels and to the local shopping mall.

- You can get discount deals in the Spa, which do great massages

Negatives:

- A bit disappointed with the rooms as they did not seem 4* and a bit worn. But as the staff was so attentive, we were moved to a nicer room. (Also, important to note that there were English movie channel available which was appreciated)

- The food is very repetitive and regardless of what restaurant you go to (out of the three that were open on my stay), they all basically have the same food i.e. Chicken, fish etc. We did feed this back to the head chief, who was again friendly and happy to discuss this. But as we were AI, it got us through the week (some meals were better than others) and neither of us got sick (as sometimes reported in Egypt)

- There were regular power cuts throughout stay but this could have been due to the heat in May. But this is something to bear in mind for anybody that plans to travel in the summer. The reason for this is that all the hotels and shops are using air con which sometimes causes the power system to stop

Overall, we had a good time at this hotel and the staff were great. And the fact that you can use and access the other sister hotels is a plus. The Jasmin Hotel even has a mini zoo and play area for children so is a good alternative (ad cheaper) choice for families who can then use the Ali Baba pool.

S overall I recommend this hotel.
