Myself and my husband stayed at sunrise from 21st - 28th June and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We flew with Thomas cook and the flight was good 5 hours from gatwick, you have to purchase a visa on arrival £13 each or 15 dollars each (cheaper so recommend purchasing for visa) on the flight out we was told that the visa was optional but this is not the case in hurgharda! A little queuing at the airport but the gatwick flight arrives at the same time as 3 others! Collecting cases we found that the airport start take them off the carousel and place on the floor next to it so by the time you arrive they will probably be there.
The transfer was by coach and when we arrived at 19.30 ( +1 hour time difference from uk) it was 30 degrees. we were directed to the coach by an egyptian Thomas cook rep ( Mohammed ) the cases are loaded for you and the man was holding out his hand for a tip - we gave him £1 as did the majority of people, however once they get £5 - £10 in coins they ask if someone would change it for a note : dont be alarmed by this but its due to banks only changing notes!
The transfer took 20 mins and this included another drop of, the coach was air conditioned and the rep introduced himself and gave each guest a welcome pack with an invite to the welcome meeting the following morning.
Once we arrived at the hotel the cases were taken from you and instead of checking in individually they sat you down as a group, gave you a drink and a pen so you could fill out your details on the checking in forms. The staff in reception then collected the forms and your passports and they checked in the guests.nyou was then called up to collect your passports and was allocated a porter to carry your cases to the rooms you was also informed that they had a restaurant open until 0100 to make sure all new arrivals had a meal. We were located in 638 and as it was on the 6th floor was taken up to the room in the staff lift - the lift was awful and straight away I felt that we had made a mistake booking the holiday there........ However it was the staff lift! Once out of the lift we was taken to the room, we were told that the rooms on the 6th and 7th floor had not been refurbished yet so was expecting something like the lift..... Not the case it was a lovely big room with 2 double beds a kettle, fridge, bathroom and a huge balcony with a view of the sea, beach, pool and the hotel gardens ( the view was spectacular) the room was clean and although you could tell it needed an update in the bathroom it was still a lovely room!!!
We unpacked and decided to go and get our bearings, we walked down the stairs to try and find the outside bar and this took a while the best thing to do is follow the signs to the 2nd floor restaurant at the restaurant there's is steps that leads you straight to the pool and beach and bar!!
There is also two lifts but we found these on day 3 a great relief as going up and down the stairs to the 6th floor in 40 degree of heat is not recommended ( both situated just outside reception)
We spent every day on the private beach, towels are provided from the towel hut daily and although it states that you can't reserve sunbeds you will need to get up early to guarantee one.
The beach has a lagoon that has beautiful fish in and snorkels are defiantly a good purchase. You then have a island with more sunbeds and this leads to the sea 2 x sets of steps to gain entry. This is the place to see the two turtles. They come out between 8 & 10 in the morning and are seen most days, also saw manta rays and other beautiful fish around this area and the coral is fantastic.
The welcome meeting was one of the best we have been to and highly recommended to attend not only for the info on trips and the resort but you are introduced to the head of each department.
The hotel and staff love the English and go all out for the guests putting on 2 x British nights with British food ( with an Egyptian twist) we had a roast on Sunday ( very nice - roast beef and yorkshire pudding) also on the Wednesday they had cottage pie and steak and kidney ( again very nice)
The food was very good breakfast: omelettes, eggs - boiled and fried, sausages ( chicken/beef) toast, yogurt, cereals and so on.
Lunch was either in a restaurant - fish, chicken, pasta, rice, potatoes, chips, lasagne on loads more, or you could have something from the beach bar like burgers, hot dogs pizza and chips.
Dinner was themed, you had different restaurants they did a variety of food and again always something to be found to eat, all the meals were buffet style and all piping hot. I do not understand why people have stated the food was not great as there really was something for everyone!
You can also eat at the al la carte restaurant not once free but 6 times - 2 sittings available 19.30 / 20.30 this was waiter service and free of charge the only thing I would say is the wine is charged for and the creame brûlée is awful stick to the apple strudel!
The entertainment was cheesy but the animation team... Teto, Julia, Gemma and the others that I can't spell there names were friendly and not pushy if you did not want to join in they understood and did not pester you they were lead by can can and he was fantastic at his job and very approachable for new ideas! They have a hard job in the sun all day dressed in uniform but are always happy!
The bars were small and you did have to queue for a drink unless you did what we did and ask one of the bar staff clearing tables to get our drinks, baz was brill as was tarek and they soon had our drinks waiting for us and another came just before finishing the drinks! They did not expect a tip but we did at the end of our holiday as it was great service and highly deserved!
The waiters and cleaners were always busy, and everyone spoke to you with out pestering. There was a man that sold drinks all day Mr fresh, even though it was all inclusive he had the most amazing fresh juices orange, melon etc and would walk around all day with the drinks! They did cost £1.50 but they were delicious cold and refreshing so I would recommend trying one or two!
We did one trip the boat trip through Thomas cook and it was an excellent day the beach we went to was out of this world and the food was gorgeous and to top it off we saw dolphins swimming close to the boat! We went snorkelling for an hour and it really is a must do!
I really have said enough we met some great people ( other holiday makers) had a great laugh and really had an excellent holiday, the weather was lovely and hot and yes you may get a bit of stomach upset but don't have the ice in your drinks or brush your teeth with there water if you do get upset stomach then go to the chemist and they will give you a tablet to stop it. Remember a holiday is what you make it and this holiday was well worth the money!
