“fabulous relaxing holiday”
Reviewed February 15, 2013

Just returned from a week at this hotel. Hotel staff are excellent... can't do enough for you. Was allocated a large room with 2 double beds with view. I stayed with my sister in law, felt very relaxed and well cared for.
There was always plenty of sunbeds. Rooms spotless. Food good, A choice of 3 main restaurants, a beach restaurant (ideal for breakfast and lunch as you could be a little more casually dressed here) and a beach hut serving drinks, pizza burgers etc. We particularily liked the Cafe bar, where our lovely waiter Mamoud served us cocktails. The atmosphere was very civilised throught the hotel, a nice mixture of young couples and older folks. The reception staff were very helpful and any minor problems... bit of leaky tap, animation team forgetting to announce in English were all sorted within the hour. The beach area was quiet and restful whilst the pool a bit more lively with lots going on, so something for everyone. It is worth a walk outside to visit the shops (important for local economy and the Marina was great for people watching). I would definitely return to this hotel for a winter sun holiday.

Room Tip: Room 240 was huge and got the sun in the morning. Also a kettle cups etc are provided so you won'...

Just back from 2 weeks at the Sunrise.
Rooms- are a littletired and having paid for a "superior sea view room with bath" we were shown to a small room with a shower. After a moan to the rep we finally got a lovely room - even if the bath did have a crack in it!! it was repaired. Room and bathroom were very clean.
Food - I agree with some of the other reviews. OK if you like stew or salad but not much variety although always something to eat. Mr Chop up your salad was lovely!! Service was great though, after a couple of days the waiters knew what we liked and we didn’t have to ask at all for drinks at breakfast or dinner, a nod or a smile was all that was needed and they were all really friendly.
The towel guys are great; we had a breaker and 2 beds every day saved for us by the guys (we were not willing to get up at 7am just to get a bed on the beach!)
We took the 2 day trip to Luxor- we were also told it was a 4 hour coach trip and we would be there by 9am. But having said this it was a fab trip, worth every penny.ASH our guide was full of endless information and ASHROFF the driver was great, he even stole some sugar cane for me to bring back to the UK!! We had a ball and met some lovely people on this trip.
The entertainment.... well......the animation team seem to favour the guests round the pool so we didn’t even meet them till a couple of days before we left but they were very good, Donga seemed like a lot of fun. The Singers on the 5th floor were not the best - but - not the worst we have ever heard in Egypt. A couple of ouzo's however seemed to help, NOT SO SURE this was good for everyone else but I had a ball!!! ( Sorry-again- to anyone who needs an apology?)
All in all we had a great time, met a lot of lovely people, Egyptian, English, Welsh and German and will probably return.
Staff who need a mention for exceptional service.... Mostafa Abdelfatah in the restaurant, Sayed, Aladdin, Maria, M.Mordy and AwadAllah You are all great!!!!
Thank you for a memorable holiday

Room Tip: High floors have better views.

after a wonderfull week on the nile and a 6 hour journey across the desert from luxor.we arrived at a lovely looking hotel.the reception area and balcony bars looking quite smart and pleasant.our room was lovely and spacious and clean, and kept that way by our lovely cleaning lad all week {room 430}.he was a gem.
1st problem, going out on the balcony for a cigarette,we closed the door behind us to keep the aircon working as we thought.only problem no handle on outside to open door.after approx 20 mins managed to attract attention of lady next door who got reception to send us someone to let us back in.apparently it happens quite regular.there is a small sign on the door but its in blue writing and doesnt catch your attention when its dark.
the food at breakfast and lunch at the aida restaurant was good,we enjoyed the choices we had.the evening meals in the el sol and arabian were not so good.a lot of tasteless stews and overcooked meats.tried the a la carte ,the service and staff were good ,but again the food wasnt brilliant.
drinks, white wine was crap and undrinkable, the rose and red were just passible, beer is nice , brandy is okay as long as its with cola, but here comes another problem.in 2 different bars on 2 different nights at 10.15 one night and 9.45 we were told there was no more brandy till the next day,but we could have gin vodka or whiskey.all of which none of our group drunk.only when we asked to see the manager or find brandy did it appear.i got the impression that each bar is allocated a certain quota of each drink and when its gone its gone.we were all inclusive and didnt expect that sort of response.even during the day the beech and pool bars were constantly running out of beer and cola.again you would have to wait up to 15 mins while someone went off to get another crate.24 bottles in a crate gave 36 glasses.after that you would have to wait again.the weather wasnt brilliant and it was quite quiet round the pool, god only knows how they would cope when its hot and busy.
this is the third sunrise we have stayed at and by far the worst.would we go back definately not

Our first trip to Egypt having travelled widely in Africa, we were looking for some cheap winter sun and an opportunity to chill from stressful work at a reasonable price. All in all we got cheap winter sun but we were disappointed and won't be going back! Two things made it for us, the history of Egypt and the people we met.

Started with a twin bedded room having requested a double on booking, to be told there were no doubles available, we ended up upgrading at a cost to us, so we could have a double bed. On the first morning we were accosted by the food and beverage manager and persuaded to come to the "all English seafood Barbeque" that night at a cost of £14 pp plus tax, there would be "International wine and fabulous bbq sea food with 4 or 5 women bellydancing, plus male dancers". We actually got deep fried squid and bbq prawns to eat. No International wine and the Egyptian wine we finally got was charged to us again- only when my husband contended the bill did they finally agree to remove it from the bill. The dancers constituted of one belly dancer and one male dancer swirling his cape; It was just the dishonesty of the whole thing that really got to us- and this was the theme throughout the holiday.

The trips we arranged were a major part of the holiday but the rep was not honest. We booked a 2 day trip to Luxor to be told it was a 3.5 hr journey, just manageble for me with a back disc problem. When we had paid and got the finer details we were then told the pick up time was 04.15! Arriving in Luxor at 7am.We actually arrived at 10am having spent the rest of the time picking up at other hotels, We challenged the rep about this but he said we would be in Luxor for 8am. Having said that the rep was excellent and all in all we loved the experience of Luxor- but be prepared to spend at least 5 hours on the road there and another 5 hours back if going on this trip.

Now the food and drink... Breakfast and lunch at Aida restaurant -the buffet was excellent. Evening meal at Arabian Nights or El Sol very disappointing unless you like Egyptian stew! The drinks were absolutely dire as mentioned by other reports. White and rose wine were like meths. Vodka was undrinkable, only the beer was drinkable. We ended up eating out 4 nights of the 10 at a fabulous bar and restaurant called "Granada" ;go out of the hotel and turn left about 200 metres along on the opposite side. Staf attentive, food amazing and some proper International wine at reasonable prices! This and the Marina restaurants made the evenings for us. I appreciate not everyone thinks like us but surely its not too much to ask for a drinkable glass of wine on an evening, Sunrise need to wise up here. Yes it is possible to buy better quality wine- but even that wine was unpallatable and not International, the Egyptian wine they serve was undrinkable, if they want to be seen a seruous contendrs they need to pull their finger out

The guys selling pedicures, massages and photos on the hotel beach were endless.

Positives... Price , even after paynig for evening meal out the holiday was still very reasonable and cant be faulted price wise. We met some lovely people, and we didnt have to fight for a sunbed!( Mind you it was February!) The rooms had a fabulous view of the sea and gardens and although parts of the rooms and hotel were tired it was clean. The staff on the whole were very friendly. Would I go back though- no thank you!

We booked for 11 nights in January with Thomas Cook and got a good rate. We couldn't wait to leave the snow behind. We went to Sharm a few years ago, same time of year, so had some idea of what to expect. First impressions of hotel were good, fast check in, welcome drink etc. We had a double room with sea view on 3rd floor. Furniture in room a bit tired and not a lot of storage but absolutely fine for the price we paid.

Two evening restaurants to choose from, plus the Meditteranean a la carte (if you are Thomas Cook can eat here as often as you want). Two restaurants open at lunch, plus the beach snack bar. Two restaurants to choose from at breakfast. Food was good in my opinion, always found something and they seem to try their best. Although the roast dinner on Sundays was interesting! The meditteranean could have been better with just a few little touches, they hadn't got it quite right.

The management team were constantly interested in your feedback. They approach you on the beach with nibbles and are very keen to make sure you have a good stay. That was a nice touch.

First night we arrived we paid extra for an Arabian Nights evening, £17 each. Food and belly dancers, whirling dervish etc. didn't think this was worth the money, as the entertainment showed exactly the same thing and the food wasn't great. They asked for our feedback, which we gave them, but they got defensive so we kept quiet.

And that's how it is really, you end up feeling conned for a lot of things. From tipping the staff, to the taxi drivers who declare they have no change and therefore charge you extra, to having to pay to use the billiard table in the pool bar. These things niggle after a while.

The beach was clean, we stayed there most days, but found we were having to get up earlier and earlier to get a decent spot in the sun. After 4pm in Winter it gets cold. Saw the resident turtle and the octopus in the lagoon once or twice which was cool. If you like snorkelling, just go down the steps into the sea and the fish are all there. Brilliant, except sea a little chilly for my liking. On the beach, ask for a red flag so you don't get disturbed by sellers. The hotel is very strict about this and have fired staff who breach this. We didn't do this for the first 2 days and ended up agreeing to things we wouldn't normally, like going for a massage and getting pedicures. They seem to know if you have just arrived and zoom in on you! We did go for a couple of massages in the end as we got a fair deal and found it to be very professional, but haggle on the price.

Now onto the drinks, where do I start? The white wine is foul, the red is just about drinkable. The beer is watered down. The vodka tastes of petrol. Most of the cocktails were too sweet. I ended up drinking either piña colada or rum and pineapple as I couldn't find anything else I liked.

We went to the Marina a few times for some decent cocktails and proper drinks, plus a really good Thai which wasn't too expensive. Hurghada itself is a bit of a dump and you do need your wits about you. We were accosted by some young gypsy children who tried to sell us a scarf, but I could see they were attempting to pickpocket my boyfriends wallet.

The animation team work really hard and try their best to get you involved in activities, most of the time they were really sweet but could be too much sometimes. Most evenings we would go down to The Jungle Disco for the show, which varied from mildly amusing to downright awful, but there wasn't much else to do at night so you feel like a captive audience.

A couple of problems we found was the drain smell near our room late at night, one time it was pure methane. Another problem was the air conditioning was noisy and blew out hot air.

All in all, we met some great people, we relaxed, we enjoyed ourselves. We were lucky as we had warm weather for the majority of our stay before it got cloudy and cold. When the sun wasn't shining it seemed to emphasise the issues even more as there really isn't much to do in the hotel.

Would we go again? probably not. We had a good break, but next time we will either go back to Sharm or go to another destination.

Well guys what can i say about the recent reviews about this hotel!!!!some people must be so far up there own arses!!very unjust comments or expecting hilton service for very reasonable price,i have stayed in some of the best hotels in the world, paid 3 times the amount, and recieved half the service i got at the sunrise, food was stunning everything you could wish for catering for all,i never felt under pressure to give tips to any of the staff, very helpfull full of fun and a happy house, our room was very pleasing spotlestly cleaned daily with some nice touches with the towels by the chambermaids, and if your travelling to egypt for the beer or in fact the drink on an all inclusive hotel then you obviously havent been before???word of advice put your hand in your pocket and buy a named drink, the lagoon area is stunning clean and staff that could not do enough for you,to even laying your towels for you,so guys if you want a reasonable priced holiday with people who in my opinion are really trying to make your stay perfect then look no further, try the sunrise.
