“This resort was full of very overweight older couples who just want to drink, smoke and lie about in the sun all day”
Reviewed October 6, 2012

If you are over 50yrs, overweight, unhealthy and if all you go on holiday to do is drink, smoke and eat vast amounts then this resort will suit you down to the ground, if not DON'T GO!!!
I have just returned from a weeks holiday with my 2 sons aged 22 & 21years.
All i can say is if you can afford to go else where please do!
The hotel is VERY dated, on arrival we were allocated 2 double rooms on the forth floor right next to reception, both rooms were very dull, smelt of fumes from the nearby generator, tired looking, old fashioned and generally miserable with small balconies that got no sun whatsoever.
I immediately complained to the management and was told to return the following day and they would " sort me 2 very nice rooms this time ".
On my return they stated that they didn't have 2 rooms for me unless i wanted to upgrade for £75 to a suite, i did upgrade begrudgingly and paid the money, the only reason being that i would of wanted to kill myself if i had stayed in the other room by the end of the week.
The suite wasn't much better, still very, very dated and dull but the balcony was in the sun and the large type so that is why i agreed to pay.
As for the food don't get me started, all my party was ill within 2 days of landing at the resort and we are very careful what we eat and drink and with hygiene in general but one week back at home and we are all still not right so be warned.
Not only does the food make you ill but it is rubbish, cold, bland, poor selection, dinners that have been made into teas, so it was of no great loss not to be able to eat after day 2.
If you like to keep active don't go to this resort it has nothing to offer you, the gym is very small with very limited equipment and is so hot it is unbearable to work out in, but me and my sons did use it and the only benefit was there was never anybody else in it!
The only thing that this hotel has got going for it is the sun which you will get at every other resort so go to another resort instead.

Thought I would take some time and review the Sunrise Holiday Resort in Hurghada. We read a lot of reviews before visiting and think that most of them are ill founded! So this is our unbiased review.
Tips:
1. On arrival at the airport you have to pay £15 each for your visa. Fastest way is when you enter arrivals look immediately left you will see a bank go there, it's a little cheaper and you don't have to wait so long in the queues.

Travel time to the hotel is 20 mins maximum, took a few minutes to check in the up to our room. We had booked a superior room, bigger than the rest and has a full balcony which overlooked the sea were we're in room 214. Thomas Cook guests can also keep their room at no extra cost at the end of your holiday. There is a kettle in the room also a hair dryer, you can get an iron from reception, also laundry service available.

Food. Well it's not too bad in the two weeks we were there it was not repeated.

Tip 2. Go up to the Arabian Restaurant for breakfast it's the same as the main El Sol restaurant but no queues!

Thomas Cook guests now get the Al a Carte menu every night if you want at no extra cost. Believe it or not they also put a Carvery on a Sunday for the English Guests, we didn't bother!

Out and about. The Marina is well worth visiting its about 25 min walk from the hotel. Taxis are everywhere go for the dark blue and orange ones. Agree price with driver before you get in pay no more than 20 Egyptian Pounds (£2). ATM Bank machines are all over and HSBC Bank is 10min walk. There is ATM machine and money exchange in the hotel. For those who need it the is McDonalds and KFC in town.

10 mins walk from hotel is a Costa Coffee!! There is free wifi in it as in most of the bars in town. For a quick drink turn right out of hotel 5 mins walk to Retro pub. They show English football and have free wifi.

The trips available are ok we went on a trip to Mahmya Island, hot but there is a bar toilets and food, boat takes about an hour and a half to get there.

Accommodation in hotel is good cleaned every day fresh towels etc. Management always around asking how your stay is and if you have any complaints.

Biggest Problem..

The sunbeds soon get taken! Hotel has Germans and Russians no problem but they do get up early!, I had to be out reserving a bed by half six in the morning!!

In summary a great hotel in a good location, hope this helps ! Happy to answer any questions just contact me and enjoy your stay, we did!!

Room Tip: Superior Rooms have sea view

Both me and My partner had an amazing time in egypt, the hotel was beautiful and very clean, the staff was freindly and helpful. Management were very easy to find and made them selves visable all round the hotel every day and made a point of comming to ask you if everything was okay and if there was anything we needed. On our second day there was asked if we could get a kettle and that evening it was there in our room all ready to use.

So a quick break down of our hoilday the good and the bad :

Hotel - overall

Was just amazing, again the staff were very help full and any issues or concerns they helped us out straight away. Also put the do not disturbe sign on the door at night due to the cleaner bring water around to your rooms about 9.00am each day, so therefore you will be woken if you do not have sign on the door, He will leave two bottles of water outside the door or in your room, depending of the door sign.

The amination team were BRILLIANT, made the holiday so much more meoriable! a massive thank you to chico and John.

Going Shopping:

There is a shop just down the road call Cleropatres place - it is a fixed shop and means no hassle or haggling to buy things. I would recomend going there . ( however do not take to much money with you and do not get distracted by street sellers)

Trips:

we did a few trips with our Rep, these included Mayhma island sunset, which i really recgonmend do NOT go to the paradise island side of the gifton island as there is nothing there and you willbe very disapointed.

Jungle aqua park - great water slides and a fab day out for the £28 each per adult, however go by taxi to the park and it will be cheaper and you will get there quicker than the coach service via your rep which is only honestly a 20 min ride away ( no try more like 1hour, 30mins as you stop to pick up loads of people)

DO NOT be put off the hotel trips as the rep will try and scare you into not booking with the hotel, as they tell you a scare story. reminder you have travel insurance with the hoilday and you will be covered by the hotel to.

Gamil - is the man to speak to for Dolphin house, snorkling and any other boat trips you would like to do! he can be found down near the small pool.

We did the dolphin house trip and had the most AMAZING day, small group of english all on a lovely boat with 5 crew members. snorkled at 4 locations and saw the dolphins twice and had the opertunity to swim with them to.

ZOT Photography - also found near the small pool, great set of photographers (and i am a photographer myself) take wonderful pictures of you on a private shoot and taylor it to the images that you want. price of photos are very very good.

Money:

Take english money or US Dollars as they like this the best.

Food:
the food was not the best in the hotel, but I was told by other holiday makers that it is the same in the whole of Egypt. There was things to eat every night, and the lunch times had a good viratry to .

all in all this was a lovely holiday.

Room Tip: over looking the Lagoon

Again, my wife and I had a fantastic 14 nights at this hotel from the 18th September 2012.

The hotel to be perfectly located right next to the Red Sea with all the activities this has to offer..

The hotel is kept spotlessly clean from the reception to the corridors, bars, rooms, restaurants,
swimming pool and the beach area.

The rooms a large and face towards the Red Sea, so the views are outstanding.

The raised swimming pool along with its sunbeds and sunbathing areas is a delight.

There is a soft sand beach which leads to a half moon man made lagoon which is fed by the sea, the experience of seeing the small fish in only six inches of water is wonderful, then again you can swim out to sea and experience more fish of the larger species.

There are four restaurants all serving 5 * food for breakfast, lunch and dinner at atleast two of them, there is a al la carte restaurant which is bookable and serves wonderful food.

The animation team are out of this world, their energy and dedication to their work is second to none, they are professional people providing daytime activities around the swimming pool and on the beach, then in the evening they are at the restaurant doors to greet you.

They put on a fantastic evening entertainment, we thoroughly enjoyed the company of each and everyone - thank you.

The management team go out of their way to make you welcome from the hot towels and cold drinks on your arrival to the daily walk around by the management speaking to all the hotel guest.

Again we found this hotel to be excellent value for money and cannot fault it in any area, so if you want a superb holiday and a great price the Sunrise Holiday Resort is the hotel to go to.

We are goind back shortly.

we had a good time, food was spot on , breakfast and evening meals were varied and the pizzas were as good as any on the high st back home. staff worked hard to make you feel at home. animation team always up for a laugh and the 2 brit girls always stopped for a chat , we didnt bother with a red flag for the sunbeds and didnt get much mither. went on the boat trip from the hotel. a bit dearer than the thomas cook one but went from the hotel and had a great day out . a trip down the road to the local shops was good an experience, but fun haggling with em all, between 20 and 30 quid for copy watches and ten quid each for lacoste t shirts etc. my girlfriend got some bargains as well. just get the price for your taxiis up front and you will be ok, craziest taxi drivers in the world, you wont stop laughing, like being on the big one at blackpool.. one of the workers from the hotel took us to see the real hurghada (his words) for a tenner each 4 of us. was great took us to the mosque were our girls had to dress up in there clothes to show respect, good photo opportunity then to there markets,,, wow , up to the hills to see over the city, great night out. if you like your football retro bar across the road shows the prem matches but there streamed through the internet so stall a lot. to sum up great holiday but wouldnt go back to egypt as both of us suffered with stomach problems (to put it politely) ended up stuck in the room for a few days it was that bad, we also met other people who had the same, but not all. some people was saying it was the weather some the food some the water in soft drinks etc, whatever it was never had it that bad in other countrys before. lasted 6 days for me so i stopped eating, not good on an all inclusive. but if you got a stronger stomach you will have a great time.

What a lovely hotel. Beautiful sea water (man made) lagoon next to a pool overlooking an amazing sea. Food good with lots of bars around the hotel to suit all tastes. Rooms large and balcony's overlooking the sea. Amazing. The staff were all eager to please and nothing was too much trouble. A special mention must be made about the young boy who kept the beach toilets spotless with flowers and hand flannels. The only problem was 1 night the entertainment was on the beach and a charge was made!!!!!!!! The seating was on sunbeds, so not a social arrangement, and the music was extremely loud more suited to a nightclub. It went on till 1.00am and as all rooms face the beach it was impossible to sleep. This was the only reason I didn't score as excellent as I think it is outrageous to charge for entertainment!!!!

Let me start by saying that this hotel is not for you if you do not like Sun, Good food, Excellent service, snorkelling and clean and spacious rooms with staff that will serve your every need. This was our 2nd stay at this hotel, our first being in May2012 , and after reading the reviews in trip adviser about the problems they had in July/August the management and staff have got everything back in order and made this hotel the place to stay in Hurghada. After the genuine welcome we received from Mr. Hassan on arrival we were given different rooms (room 525) from our first stay (which were good with a good size balcony and view No.749) and they were excellent. The view was straight onto the bay and far enough away from the pool to be quiet at night if you did not want to see or hear the entertainment. Once again the Animation team were excellent making sure there was plenty to do if you wanted too during the day and put on good shows in the evenings ( if you are into the party and dancing spirit). How people in the past have complained (we heard a couple on our stay) about the food is beyond comprehension. The choice is fantastic with everything from salads to main courses of 9-10 different things to try plus more, and that is only in the El Sol, you have the same again upstairs (but a different cultures food) in the Arabian Nights. Sunday roast was good but unfortunately they have not got Aunt Bessies recipe yet for the Yorkshire puddings!
Overall this is a place we would keep going back to and will if we are in Egypt and would like to thank all the staff from the gardeners, beach boys (Talaat and Mahmoud), housekeeping staff to the management who looked after us and made this yet another enjoyable and memorable holiday

Room Tip: E-mail them 2 -3 weeks before arrival and ask for large balcony
