Hurghada Marriott Beach Resort
Ranked #44 of 222 Hotels in Hurghada
Reviewed December 15, 2010

We spent a couple of days here in December, on a short break away from shark attacks in Sharm el Sheikh and closed beaches.
On arrival I was not satisfied with the room I ordered (nothing wrong with the room, it was the location in the building I did not like..)
Anyway, the front desk staff did its best to please us in the matter, and we eventually got a room with a better subjective location.
Its been three years since my last stay at this hotel, and I would say that the hotel needs an overhaul. The room we stayed in had faulty faucets, the drain in the sink barely drained, and the grip handle in the bathtub was plain and simple dirty. Especially the faucets seem to be ready for a replacement. Waggly and not precise, something You normally would not react to in a 2 or 3 star hotel, but Marriott?

The service staff at the poolbar I found a bit on the lazy side, and not as attentive as they professionally should be.

The massage parlor at the premises, connected to Marriott, try to sell massages for the price of 500 - 600 Egp for 45 minutes...Get real, You don´t even pay this at home in a professional place...

Breakfast: Pretty much the same that You find in almost every 3,4,5 star hotel in egypt. Nothing special at all. I wonder why they cant offer slices of beef, turkey and chicken, but solely the mixed, cheap diluted "salami" they serve everywhere. I get it if it was the regular russian all-inclusive resort, but again....Marriott?

The pool is small, but in good shape, clean, and above all warm in wintertime.

The beach: Also small, nothing new here, but nothing worse either. It is what it is....

On the bright side: since my last stay they have upgraded the televisions to solely flatscreen tv, with the broadest variety of english speaking channels I ever found in egypt. The picture quality is also very good.
But...Why charge extra for cabled internet at these room rates?? 130 Egp for 24 hours of internet access in the room?

Room service: Still among the best, nothing to fault here...even the prices are reasonable considering..

The lobby area is very nice, and the service crew in the lobby, including front desk workers, are very service minded.

Furthermore, the quality on the food in resturants, and the taste, is very good, among the best I have experienced in an Egyptian hotel ever.

Total impression: Still a nice beach hotel, but they need to address the flaws, especially since this is a Marriott and not an average arabic wanna-be hotel.
When You go to a Marriott, you expect to be pampered. Do not have these expectations at this place.

We had a great time at this hotel.
The staff were friendly and efficient and really helpful.
The hotel was clean, and well presented. The pool was great and the beach areas were great too. Happy hour was a great way to end a hard day's relaxing.
We particulary liked the fact that there were a great mix of nationalities and the Thai Massages are fabulous.

We have just got back from a week at the Marriott in Hurghada. We didn't really research the trip beforehand but were very pleasantly surprised by the hotel. We were less pleasantly surprised by Hurghada but as I said that was largely due to our lack of research and not knowing what to expect. If you want a hotel where you can relax by the pool or enjoy the lovely beach this is perfect.
The real difference for us from other hotels was the staff. We travelled with our 18 month son who got some much attention from the staff - everyone knew his name and would do anything to help. He has had problems adjusting back to the reality of home!

Just returned from a 11 day holiday celebrating my wifes birthday, the hotel staff could not do enough for us, the food in the Italian restaurant is first class, the rooms were always clean and tidy on a daily basis, i know we would expect this staying in a five star hotel but it was the additional attentiveness that was special.
The hotel is in a wonderful location with its own private beach which is the envy of many other hotels, there was always clean towels available for the pool and beach and the ice cold hand towels brought to you at the pool daily was a great benefit in the heat.
Over all i would highly recommend this hotel and will be returning in the near future.

Clean, large hotel with lots of facilities - really good choice between Hurghada marina and New Hurghada further down the coast. Private beach, variety of restaurants, good size rooms. Only possible downside is that some of decor looks just a little dated, but overall it's a sound pick, and really good value.

The Marriot Red Sea Resort Hotel staff are all friendly and families would very much enjoy their stay here. Staff are attentive and professional and love children. We stayed during the first couple of weeks in August - Ramadan - and this meant the hotel was quieter than usual. It also meant there was more space by the pool and the beach.

The guests are largely English, German, Russian and Egyptian (thankfully no lager-louts) and all tend to come together at Breakfast and evening Dinner. Both are buffet-style and there's a wide range of options. Also, Dinners have 'theme' nights, a cuisine from a particular part of the world each night. This tends to be repeated each week. There was never any jostling for food during our stay but I can imagine when busier this might be a problem. The two young women who welcome you are very friendly, and again, loved playing with children.

The drinks at the hotel are generally expensive so make the most of Happy Hours: from about 2pm you can do a circuit of the bars through til 6pm and get 2 for 1 deals. Soft drinks are not included in the Happy Hours though, so if you don't drink, or have children, you may want to cross the road and stock up on drinks there....they cost a fraction of the price.

The Resort has a man-made Lagoon which is good for snorkelling and good for children/paddling. No matter where you sit you will be approached, sometimes many times a day, by hotel staff trying to sell massages and other treatments. If you are interested, there's a couple of places about 200m down the road that offers the same treatment for less money - take a look.

The hotel shops are definately over-priced. Use them only if you need to. Everything can be bought in Hurghada for sometimes a fifth of the price. And don't think that the hotel shop-keepers won't haggle.....I bought some gifts just before I left and saved more than 50% of the asking price. And if - like me - you wanted to do the touristy thing a ride a camel - you can do that too......there's a guy with a camel and horse selling rides outside the hotel. The ride doesn't last long, but is fun....just make sure to agree a good price.

The quality of the rooms was more than acceptable. Comfortable beds and very quiet. There was a mini-bar (expensive) and room-service was always quick. One thing that was missing was tea and coffee-making facilities - I would expect this in a 5* hotel and is always welcome after a long day . So you're forced to buy/order some instead.

The hotel has an adjoining health centre. It was free when we used it, and offers another swimming pool (no people in it - great!), sauna, steam-room, plunge pool and spa treatments. Well worth checking-out.

As mentioned before, there are a a number of small shops close by, with 2 or 3 immediately opposite the hotel:- a supermarket selling a very limited number of provisions, such as drinks, crisps etc., a gift shop, and a pharmacy. As a guide, 2 x 1 litre Coke and 2 x 1 litre Water cost less than 20 Egyptian pounds at the supermarket. The same money would buy a small glass of pepsi at a hotel bar.

The Hotel runs a shuttle bus to and from Hurghada each evening. If you visit at night, you will run the gauntlet of shop-keepers trying to sell you just about anything. Nothing has price tags so haggle for everything! Start at 20% and don't pay more than 40%! If you want a more relaxed time, go during late morning/early afternoon as the shops are just opening-up then and owners are too busy getting things prepared for the day.

If you don't fancy the shuttle service, you can take a taxi from the Hotel to downtown Hurghada. The price you pay is what you agree...there are few rules! 10 Egyptian pounds seemed to be the absolute maximum you should pay (7 being about the norm), but that didn't stop one driver asking for 25!

Day trips should be booked before you leave - it is much easier than trying to book anything once you're in Egypt - with exception to snorkelling using the hotel's dive centre.....they were excellent and the trip was well organised.

Internet access is expensive - 30/60 Egyptian Pounds for 30/60 minutes, however there is free wi-fi.

Overall, the hotel is well maintained and the staff are friendly. The food is good and the rooms are clean and comfortable. I'd recommend it and I'd stay again.
