My husband and I booked this hotel for our honeymoon and we were not disappointed.
Firstly like most/ all people booked or booking to come to Egypt we were a little worried with what was in the media about the trouble in Cairo. We can confirm there is absolutely no trouble in Hurghada and felt completely safe.
Upon arrival, we we're taken to our wonderful room with a limited sea view. The room was more than big enough for us two.
I'm a picky eater when I'm away from home but I was able to find something to eat for every meal.
The staff are fab and turn into your family while you are there. They can not do enough for you.
We made some lovely friends, both English and Egyptian here, and plan to stay in touch with them all.
Taylor the guest relation manager is fantastic. We asked if there is anywhere we could go to celebrate our honeymoon and he came up with a great idea for us to have a romantic meal within the hotel. It was lovely to eat under the stars, the staff made us feel so special, it was topped off by our little English family joining us at the end of the evening to eat the cake the chef had made for us.
The animation team Marley, Ziggy, Alex, Felix and Chloe.... Well what can I say. They work hard in providing a great fun day and night. Even tho they made us dress up on our last day.
They are great guys and it shows that they love their jobs.
While we were on holiday we had a lovely facial in the massage facilities. We also did some horse riding which took us to see the area around the hotel.
The pool area is excellent. The pool itself is large, and there are plenty of sun beds to relax on. The bar is literally a few feet from the pool. If you're more of a beach person, this is right next to the pool, and again has plenty of sun beds to relax on.
We had a fantastic time at the Mercure Hurghada, and wouldn't hesitate to recommend to anyone wishing to stay there. We are planning to return next year.

We stayed 2 weeks at Mercure Hurghada in Sept 2013. and I think it's the best hotel I've ever been. The staff is friendly and I had no complain at all about anything.
Due to the media there were not much tourists in the hotel but we still had a great time. All the people there are committed to the tourism and they are always there for your to make your day great. We enjoyed every minute.
The reception made us a warm welcome and all the staff were helpful. Especially Sultan, he helped us many times and he arranged everything we asked.
We had haircuts, manicure and pedicure at the Beauty Center and we made very good deal also for Aromatherapy massages. Abir and Sayid made a very good job to let us relax 4 x 50 minutes.
We booked many trips (Megasafari, SeaScope Submarine and Giftun-island tour) at Fun Fly Aqua Center what is located just beside the lovely sandy beach. Cpt. Yasser and Magdy made us a very enjoyable trip with snorkeling. They took us to wonderful places on the Red Sea and they taught us how to use fins, etc. We also tried with them Parasailing. I must say ther are very professional and it's in a good price. Mahmoud helped also to take nice photos of this experience.
The hotel has many shops as well. Max at the souvenir shop gave us lots of gifts and we had very nice talks. We got to met his family as well. Tigi at the papyrus shop sold us on very good pice amazing papyruses and we heard all the stories about the ancient Egypt. Emil from jewellery shop sold us very nice silver jewelleries.
The service team is also very professional. Moustafa Mohammed is a nice guy and mostly he was our waiter at the meals.
The food was very always good and we had many choices. We could also try the a'la carte restaurant for dinner. We could always drink and/or eat something because we booked with all inclusive.
The beach is very lovely. It's sandy and clean, there were always enough sunbeds and we could do snorkeling as well.
The animation team made us amazing evenings at the Amphitheatrum or on poolside but during the day they always kept us busy.
So thank you very much for everyone in the hotel. It's a really great place and I strongly further recommend it. We had a good time and I hope we will be able to get back once there. Don't be afraid of Egypt, it's SAFE there! Just go and enjoy! :)

Room Tip: Our room was 2118. Ask for seaview room and they will do it for you with no extra charge. Make appoi...

My friend and I stayed at the Mercure between 11th-25th October 2013.

We had an absolutely amazing time and there was no sign of any trouble. We felt safe the entire holiday. The Mercure is the best hotel I have ever been to and will definitely be going back to visit.

The staff were so friendly, polite and helpful. The general manager greeted us on arrival with a welcome drink along with Chloe who was responsible for looking after the guests. Chloe was lovely and we got to know her quite well on the holiday. She always had a smile on her face and genuinely wanted to make sure we were having a good time and was always available to help with any questions we had. All the staff at the hotel greeted you every day with a smile and asked how you were. There were happy to help you with anything you wanted and went out of their way to make you feel important and looked after. The three people in particular that I got to know on the holiday were Ahmed Magdy Hussein (Polite and caring), Ahmed Gad Nasr (Makes very good cocktails) and Mohammed Khairy (Always kind and happy). They were the nicest people I have met. Interesting to talk to and looked after me and my friend especially when we were being bothered by a persistent guest also staying at the hotel who did not understand we wanted to be left alone.

The animation team at the hotel were so full of energy and encouraging guests to get involved in the daily activities whether it was aqua gym in the pool or volleyball in the afternoon. They put on a different show every night, from dance shows to musicals and the people on the animation team who worked so hard to ensure the guests were entertained were: Marley Jamica who we liked to play card games with in the evening :-), Felix, Alex/Ahmed Capoeira and Chloe. They worked so hard during the day and well into the night and never seemed to run out of positive energy. They were very entertaining and always made us laugh

The hotel rooms were well decorated and clean and the beds were so comfortable I did not want to get up in the morning. They were cleaned everyday and you would often find towels folded into swans or bears which was a nice touch. The hotel was lovely and quiet which was perfect for our relaxing holiday. The food at the hotel was very well prepared and had lots of variety so you never ran out of options to choose from.

We had a massage when we were out there and thought the price was good value for money as it was very good. We also went into the desert which was arranged through our rep on quad bikes, dune buggies and mini tanks. It was really good fun and got the chance to do some star gazing, watch a belly dancer perform and got served an evening meal. The other trip we went on was with Fun Fly where we went to three separate locations to do some snorkelling. All the trip organisers on the boat were very friendly and one of them called Bebo showed me and my friend where to find the best places to see the fishes when we went to the private island. I would definitely recommend to anyone going on this trip with fun fly as it was such a good day out and well worth it.

All in all the holiday was fantastic and want to thank everyone who works at the Mercure for a fantastic holiday I will be recommending this to all my friends and family for the future.

Much love Katy. S-London, England

I am sorry for my long review but i want to be honest in every point
1 - All the staff are very helpful , the workers and their supervisors are all excellent , house keeping ,room service , reception , restaurants , all are helpful with smiles . My thanks to Mr. Hamdy , Mrs Hala , house keeping supervisor Harby , receptionists Samer ,Fatma and at night receptionist , also the animation team are all hard workers and try to make the guests spend the best time
2 - i liked something in this hotel which i rarely found in other places , all the staff don't wait until you ask their help ,they observe and take the suitable action ,they help on their own without even waiting any potential cost
3 - the swimming pool is good and clean , its gradual depth is suitable for all ages and for good or bad swimmers , The pool area is suitable for the hotel recent capacity , but i think there is a need for another pool {with water games for children} when full capacity or when the hotel makes extension
4 - the beach is very good and sandy with gradual depth into sea , which is not available in many rocky beach hotels in Hurghada and Sharm , we enjoyed swimming in this beach
5 - we stayed from 14/10 to 18/10 as a family with 2 children , our room was very clean { no., 1312 } and with simple internal design , most rooms of the hotel as i see online are 22 square meters , i see this is not suitable for 2 adults with 2 children family , the hotel didn't offer us a larger room suitable for 4 persons although the reservation asked me many times about my children ages to give me the suitable room , the room area is suitable only for honeymooners or couples without kids , i think it is the smallest room in 8 hotels 4 and 5 stars i stayed in before
6 -Bathroom is clean and modern styled but also very small , the designer used sliding door to save the area inside , but a note for the designer : every mother helps her children during wash , this small bathroom is not suitable for them to move . In my room the sink is adjacent to the sliding door , if you stand to shave or wash your hands you obstruct everyone from passing into to get a towel or tissue ,
In our first day we faced a problem in bathroom, the shower hand had a weak electric shock , i felt it first but i thought i am wrong and then my children confirmed , i think this is a big fault which threatens the guest's life , when i reported the problem to the reception , he gave the proper attention and called the technician at once and we didn't face the same problem again
7 - the hotel landscape is simply designed and beautiful but the gangways are narrow and paved with old lime stone blocks which is a weak material for flooring , many blocks are wearing out and walking on such degraded flooring can make your feet turning over , this is not suitable at all for old people , in addition this damaged floor gives the guest the feeling of poor old hotel , especially that the hotel doesn't provide electric club cars to help old people moving around , i see this floor must be immediately replaced with stronger natural or artificial better flooring tiles. these gangways must be wider . it is not suitable when you face a coming 1 or 2 persons together towards you ,you have to take aside and walk on the wet grass and the same situation happens when you face the staff pushing their tools or luggage trolley
8 - the distance from some room buildings to the beach or pool is long , the hotel must use concrete or marble steps in rows on the landscape grass to shorten this long distance ,Many hotels do that and this will not affect the landscape beauty . The landscape staff can study the hotel map and place these steps to use the shortest way
9 - the reception building and other adjacent buildings external design is simple but plain and need some architectural decorations
I hope you can { if possible } use these buildings 's roof as a sitting area at night around the domes {i saw that before in Sharm} with decorative brown wooden surrounding fence which will make harmony with the wooden doors in the ground level , this roof area will overlook the pools and will have a very good view at night
10 - About food . breakfast and lunch were good , in dinner i have some notices and i shared it with Hamdy : most roasted chicken or meat on grill or in the kitchen had red blood inside which means {uncooked} , one night we faced the same problem untill Hamdy helped us with well done roasted chicken slides , the grilled beef also didn't take the enough time on fire to be well cooked or even to remove the red colour inside , it was disgusting for us and not easy for chewing , in fact i am not convinced with the repeated words i hear { in many hotels } from the restaurant staff that the guests like all food half done , i think this is not right all the time and not right for all kinds of meat , i think they give us these words only to find an excuse for the fast made food . The uncooked meat or chicken sometimes means unhealthy food and maybe containing viruses , searing the meat with high power fire for a short time can be used only for some kinds of meat like liver or young age meat or when you are sure the meat came from assured healthy cow , NOT all times you can make the unsuitable meat with this searing way
Finally we liked the hotel with all its many good points and with these small bad points i mentioned here and we will come back again

Quite nice experience. Not very large, without crowds of tourists. Good sandy beach with aquasports and lifeguard. The slope into the sea is sandy and comfortable, may be a bit steep for small children. Food is not extraordinary but good enough. Corals with fishes are available for snorkeling. Rooms are clean with lcd tvs.

Room Tip: Climbing to the rooms at the 2 or 3 floor could be hard for some people.

Reviewed October 27, 2013

My family and I stayed at the Mercure between 28 September and 5 October 2013. This was our 8th time to Egypt but first time to the Hurghada area.

We were obviously aware of the troubles before travelling but this did not put us off at all as, just as expected, there was not a hint of trouble anywhere near Hurghada or the Mercure itself. However what we didn't except was the massive impact the trouble has had on the Mercure which was only running at 20% capacity the week we arrived. We could not believe our eyes as we were being shown around the complex - there was not one single person around the pool area, not one. It was so so sad to see and as we picked up bits of information from travel reps and staff etc in fact many hotels in Hurghada had actually shut all together. It really is a shame that the media, back home and in other countries over exaggerate the extent of the troubles and the danger you could face in travelling to red sea resorts to the extent that people are advised not to travel or are put off travelling thus causing this wonderful country even more significant problems. Its just ridiculous.

Anyway back to the hotel.

I am really torn about what to say about the Mercure. I have very conflicting feelings about my stay there. I just could not get excited at all whilst I was there and I can only put it down to one thing, the food. more on later.

The complex itself is set out magnificently in that on entering the reception you can see right through the whole of the complex to the wonderful red sea!! Although I have seen much prettier gardens in Egypt, the Mercure is still very pleasant although a little bare in parts and is very very neat and tidy. There is one very large attractive swimming pool with lots and lots of sun loungers and parasols which were of very good quality and very comfortable.

The beach is literally a couple of steps away from the pool which again has plenty of sun loungers, with wind breakers and parasols. It is a fantastic stretch of beach and the sea is calm with easy access straight from the beach, no floating pontoon like a lot of red sea resorts.

I cannot make comment on bed reserving or whether there are enough sun beds for guests as most of the time we were the only ones around the pool!!!

We stayed in rooms 2210 and 2209 and on being shown to our rooms I was very disappointed as this block is not very attractive at all and has no sea views or pretty garden views. Anyway on being shown inside I was more impressed as the rooms are very pleasant and had everything you could ask for. Wardrobe space was plenty, plenty of draws, flat screen TV and a very comfortable bed. The bathroom had a separate shower cubicle and there was a hairdryer and toiletries such as shower gel, etc. I have to say that the position of the toilet was very strange in that it was right in front of a wall with a large mirror and cupboard area underneath. It was so close to the wall that although I am only 5.5 inches tall my knees were only a couple of inches away from the wall and I didn't particular want to sit staring at myself whilst on the loo!!! Very strange and I'm sure if you were a couple of inches taller you would struggle getting your knees in. Having that our parents room next door had a completely different layout and their bathroom was much bigger and therefore the toilet wasn't in the same position as ours. The rooms have a very modern feel and our room was painted pink.!!

There was also a safe in the room which is free of charge. The beds were extremely comfortable and the air con worked fantastically well.

The entertainment staff are very friendly and are great fun and put a lot of effort into the shows in the evening. I have to say it was the best entertainment I have seen anywhere in Egypt so well done guys.

As a change one evening we booked a taxi (called limousines) down to the Marina. There will be a table in the reception in the evenings where you can book your taxis. It cost us 120 Egyptian pounds (exchange rate roughly 11 Egyptian per 1 English pound} which therefore worked out at about £10 for the return journey. It is 15 minutes by taxi to the Marina and you just give the driver a pick up time and he will be there to pick you up. Very good service. We at Bordiehns (B's at the Marina) which was superb (see a separate review for that).

As previous people have mentioned there are many people coming around the pool/beach trying to get you to go for a massage, or a snorkelling trip etc. Please remember they are just trying to do their job, they are extremely friendly, funny and are not pushy at all. If you say no they understand completely and will move on. So they may come back again the next day, so what, maybe you have changed your mind the next day and fancy a massage or whatever. Give these guys a break please.

Anyway there are two different places you can get treatments, the Mercure Spa or at one of the shops located near reception. We chose first of all to have a head, shoulder and face massage at the shop. This is paid for in the shop itself and does not go on your bill to be paid at the end of the holiday I loved every minute of it, it was relaxing and my skin felt so smooth and refreshed afterwards it was amazing. My husband had a shave with a cut throat razor, ears and nose trim, eyebrow trim and came out like a new man!!! My mother in law had a pedicure and she said it was the best pedicure she had ever had, all whilst being sat in a back and neck massage chair, pure bliss!!!!!

The second treatment we had was at the Spa itself and we opted for the Cleopatra. Having visited many spas in Egypt I have to say this was visually the worse one, it was old and outdated and was not conducive of a relaxing environment. However, having said that the treatment itself was outstanding. It included, a sauna, then skin exfoliation with salt and coconut followed by a body wrap, then after showering off (in cold water - as they had no hot water!!!!) followed by a cold (ok cool) Jacuzzi, a full body massage. I would recommend this to anyone, it was absolutely divine, just a shame about the Spa itself.

Now, about the food. I didn't have a problem with the variety of food, quality of food or taste BUT at the end of the day hot food is supposed to be HOT not cold and there is one very good reason for this, bacteria!!!! I am not sure how the management seemed to be missing this major potential health hazard. Quite simply, hot foods need to be kept hot, and cold foods need to be kept cold. Hot foods should be held at 140 F or warmer. If it isn't then bacteria can potentially present itself and quickly grow and multiply making it dangerous to consume. Now I hate complaining, absolutely hate it, but I was so disturbed at the hot food, time and time again coming out of containers, barely warm, that I just had to on this occasion. Unfortunately this fell on deaf ears. One day I took a slice of pizza and to my horror, yet again it was stone cold. I immediately complained yet again and it was dealt with immediately, taken off me and a fresh pizza brought to my plate straight from the oven. One couple had to put their food in the microwave to heat it up!!!! How bad is that.

Now for anyone reading this review, please bear in mind the date of the week we stayed at the Mercure. I am not saying it is like that now but that week between 28 Sep and 5 October it was and we were not the only ones to complain. Why oh why were the containers not heated from underneath like they are in every single other hotel we have stayed in Egypt? I just don't understand it. How my family and I were not ill was just a miracle. Although others were less fortunate. I'm sorry for making such a big deal out of this but my family and I have had the misfortune of contracting a food related illness at another resort in Egypt and spent 2 days in hospital on a drip and we were understandably nervous about the lack of heat in the food.

Please please Mercure management make sure you keep that food piping hot or otherwise you will have a big problem one of these days.

Other than this easily rectified problem, all other aspects of the food was excellent.

I am really sorry that I couldn't give the Mercure 5 out of 5 and to be honest, if it wasn't for the fact that every other aspect was spot on, I would have given it less.

I think the food was the reason I couldn't get excited about this hotel, I felt like we were let down by the food and it was constantly on my mind. However, I hope the hotel continues to thrive as it is an excellent hotel in all other respects.
