We have just returned from a week at the jungle park hotel (21st-28th Jan) and after reading the bad reviews on here, I wanted to give my family's opinion. (6 adults, 2 kids, 8 and 2)
After some great reviews on here about 'gotohurghada.net' we arranged our transfers with them via email and we couldn't have had better service. They met us as we entered the airport building and rushed us off to give us our visa's (£13 each or $15) then after passport control we were taken straight to our private mini bus waiting outside. We paid £13 each way for 4 of us (2 adults, 2 kids) for our transfers which was very reasonable.
After a 15/20 minute journey to the hotel we were very impressed with the reception area, our only complaint was it was very smoky. Unfortunately for us, smoking was permitted in a few of the bars and the shops on the complex. (One good thing though, every room at the hotel is non smoking. ) One problem we had with the reception was that there wasn't a lift to take the luggage and buggy to the ground level, but usually there was a staff member on hand to help.
After a smooth check in we were taken to our room which was in the 3000 area and was a bit of a trek, but after a little while we did find some shorter routes. The best rooms in our opinion would be the 1000's.
The room itself was great for us, we had a bungalow with a queen size bed (very hard!) and 2 singles separated by curtains. The resort is massive with 35 pools plus a water park, but at this time of year only a couple of pools were heated including the kids area, by the end of our week. (Most of the slides at the park were heated too)
The resort is massive and not that suitable for someone with walking difficulties due to the many steps and the restaurants are quite spread out.
The food was something that was a bit of a problem at times, the breakfast and lunch was always good but the evening meals were a bit hit and miss. The ice cream parlour was a real disappointment, with unpleasant ice cream. The Russian guests were unbelievable with the food, they would pile their plates high only to leave a load and when they left they would take as much fruit with them as they could carry. If you wanted strawberries you would have to get in quick, as these were taken away by the box full. On our last evening we saw a man take an enormous bunch of bananas, about 20, and return to his table with his family finding it highly amusing. Their greed has to be seen to be believed!
The staff are fantastic and 'made' our holiday, they really love kids and go out of their way to help you. I left my sons cup outside a bar one evening and didn't expect to see it again but i asked a waiter the next morning and he went off to look for it. After 5 minutes he returned with the cup and a small bunch of flowers! Although we did tip the staff sometimes it was clear it made no difference to the service you got, it was always good. Our cleaner in our room was excellent and we were advised not to give him a tip until the end of the week.
The evening entertainment wasn't great, but it was there if you wanted it., we generally sat outside a bar during the evening.
We went to the beach one day on the free shuttle, but it isn't much to speak of. The sand was very hard and compact and it is just a mass of sunbeds. We stayed a couple of hours as a few of us had a ride on a camel.
One slight annoyance are the staff selling spa treatments daily around the pools, they are only trying to make a living but it is constant. The good thing is they do walk away if you jut say no thanks.
We all really enjoyed our holiday and would definately recommend the hotel, especially for the price. We are planning to go back next year in January as the weather was great, about 25 deg.
One last point, there is a cash machine in the hotel lobby that accepts loads of different currencies. You feed your pounds/dollars into it and it gives you Egyptian notes. The exchange rate is set nationally too so you get a fair deal.
