HONEST REVIEW, it is long and detailed... We had a great family holiday and enjoyed the weather and kids enjoyed the pools. This is the first time we have booked through loveholidays. I am sorry to say but I would never put this hotel down as a 5 star, it is more realistically a 3 star. This is very important as if you booking because its 5 star please think carefully. We are used to 5 star plus resorts so know the difference and felt this lacked alot of basic services.

On arrival we had no welcome drinks but check in was straight forward. We were given yellow bands to wear which meant we can drink alcoholic drinks and kids and Egyptians are given green bands to wear which meant none alcoholic (thats what we were told).

We had already upgraded to a junior suite before arrival although Omar in reception thought he was doing us a favour. Our room was spacious, one room was for seating with TV and other goes through to bedroom with large double bed and dressing table. Deco was quite basic and dated. Housekeeping was good, same guy came everyday to make beds etc. He was polite and friendly. He would leave bottles of water each day. There was a hairdryer in bathroom but no iron in room (bring own).
Room service slow, I rang 3 times for an iron and never received it and no courtesy callback to say none available. We also rang and asked for someone to help move sofa bed in bedroom area, again nobody ever turned up.

Guest relations- We asked if ice cream was available on resort and was told no because its too hot. Funnily the same evening we had ice cream in restaurant and it is available to purchase at the shops on site too.

Restaurants- Main restaurant- Each day someone would stand at entrance. No proper welcome or hello or anything. It seemed like they just checked we all was wearing our wrist bands! Breakfast was crazy as sooo busy! Best to arrive before 9am if you want a table. Management should seat each family down as would save walking around looking for a table to became available. Could see some families getting frustrated. Lunch and evening was slightly better. Suggestion:Maybe worth serving food and drinks on both sides of restaurant like make it symmetrical, saves guests having to walk to other side and more importantly into each other. Food is average and very repetitive with little variety. Waiters were rushed off their feet and worked very hard to keep topping up empty glasses and plates etc.
Italian restaurant- This is quite nice, simple menu but we enjoyed and sat outside on balcony.
Asain restaurant- Nice restaurant and good choice of food.
Farasha restaurant- This was BBQ chicken etc. They bring it to your table and you help yourself to bread and salad. Would be better if came straight off BBQ as chicken was dry as left in a warmer.
No waiter service in main restaurant even to offer tea or coffee. Only the prebooked restaurants are proper sit down and relax meals.

There is free wifi in reception only but its very very poor! In our whole 10nights stay I only managed to use it once. You can pay for better connection but why if this is meant to be a 5 star! Never had to pay anywhere we stayed before and wifi was always available throughout whole resort!

The lobby is reasonable size. There is a lobby bar which during the day is fine but at night there are queues for drinks and sometimes only one person behind bar serving.

Alcoholic drinks all local consisted of rum, gin, vodka, whisky, beer, wine and brandy. Soft drinks there was 7up, pepsi, orangade and some syrups. No cocktail menus so we had to keep requesting what to be made and even show how they made. Esp a mojito! Pina colada tasted different each time so I avoided it after. We mixed the syrups with water or lemonade for our children which they liked.

Kids pool was great, life guard constantly kept close eye on kids. Plently of sun loungers so no need to reserve. There is a pool bar called Romantic Bar. Shame no pool side service for a 5 star hotel, only glass collectors.

There are shops in resort, gym, beauty salon too where you can get hair braided. There is also sheesh bar called Farasha Cafe, great guy there called Mohammed, always friendly and chatty. Snacks during day very basic, dry bread rolls and selection of cakes. We also met Beeshu, great guy who owns the shop in reception and afew others around the resort. If you need anything, ask him. Always happy to help.

Evening entertainment was ok, different shows each night which children enjoyed. Nice outdoor atmosphere after in open air seating. Our children enjoyed the disco but did thought the kids club was very small in size. Natalie was great with the girls and made some lovely things and also did face painting on them. The entertainment team work very hard but as some other reviews mentioned they selective with guests.

We did the 2hour city tour in taxi from hotel and did some shopping, saw the mosque, marina which is beautiful day and night so worth a visit. Lovely restaurants too. We booked the safari tour which was great, it involved spider car, quad bike, camel ride, little history, sheesh if you wanted, food and show at the end. We bought the scarfs from reception from Beeshu.

The beach is approx 10/15min walk from reception or you can get the buggy. If you walk slightly away from resort the sand is very soft and our girls really enjoyed it. You can't get to sea unless you walk out a bit. There is also a camel on beach called Poppy, beautiful and very friendly. There is a beach restaurant where they make fresh pizza- very nice! Also a small selection of food. One day a new trainee was making pasta and there was me waiting to be served, along came another guest and he served him before me. I asked why to which he relied me no English! To make it worse that guest walked away and the pasta plate was left sitting there for the whole time we was eating our lunch. This kind of behaviour for me is unacceptable! Whilst on this point I had another incident in the main restaurant when a lady just walked in front of me and was served- annoyed me as the chef should have said join the queue! Too many queue pushers!

All in all, yes we had a great time but I wouldn't recommend this resort to my friends or family. Azur need to up their standards to 4 star and then a 5. The biggest put off for me are the other guests, they all gather around in big groups and take chairs from any table, leaving tables empty of chairs. This is when management need to step in and arrange seating on arrival. This time of year is their off peak time, dread to think what it would be like at peak time! They were under staffed at times and you could see the pressure the staff were under.

It was a positive experience for me and my friends we had a good time and enjoyed our stay at the hotel. Food variety and taste was in a good level. The staff were very friendly and helpful specially Mr. Hassan El-Saka at the reception and the animation team ( Sambo, Belia , Sheab, Kaya and Natali). They have a very good animation program every day and during the whole week.
Things to improve:
They could have built some more swimming pools or aqua park.
Some rooms need to get renewed.
Totally we think it was good value for the money and that Azur is a very respectful company.

On the check in, we were told that they upgraded our room to a bungalow, sounded promising but it wasn't. Bungalow very dated, not like on the pictures.
Poor quality of food, pink chicken, not much choice and all very bland.
A lot of the families we met, were going to Mc donalds by taxi daily.
We lived of chips most of the time.
If you are staying there and you want to survive you MUST book a'la carte restaurants! They were not amazing but average.
Entertainment was poor and very unorganised, non of the singers could sing (when we first arrived we thought it was karaoke night - it was paid singer haha). One night (Saturday) the Entertainment manager almost got into fight with a singer in front of all the guests, so the singer packed all his stuff and left...
Animation pretty much avoids you if you English as they prefer to speak German.
On Sunday they organise some kind of cocktail party on the beach where only some guest were invited, we obviously weren't but one of the animation told us by accident.
Basically the whole hotel looks like its run by bunch of kids doing what ever they like.
Only the bartenders deserve a star (apart from one young cocky barman).
If you find yourself in this hotel because of the 4,5 stars rating like us, book as many trips as possible because you will be bored and all trips feeds you with tastier food :)

Room tip: Don't let them put you in the bungalow! They are very dated and far away from the main hotel.
