“Great holiday but room for some service tweaks”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 22, 2014

We had a great time at the Aqua Magic hotel and stayed for 10 nights which was a nice length of time to stay. Airport was an absolute nightmare though and they try and rip you off with visas. Lots of rude Russians pushing in through passport control which didn't start the holiday off well to be honest although the flight with Thomas Cook on the outward journey was amazing as we had leg room inflight entertainment and a comfortable ride

Got to the hotel welcomed and went to our room, we were given a deluxe room with two queen sized beds for myself, partner and 10 year old so the first night I didn't get any sleep. The next day the cleaner put a z bed in the room without us asking which was a nice surprise after coming back from the pools. Room was big and we overlooked the pirate ship on the fourth floor and the beach. We asked to be put neAr our friends and I emailed before hand and Yasmin made sure that we had rooms next to each other ( thanks Yasmin, never got to meet you though) we had a wet room and bath and lovely vanity area in the bathroom

The pools and beach were lush, lazy river was awesome and better than other lazy rivers I have experienced. Beach was fab, the water clear and warm and the lovely waiters at the pool bar especially Hershan were amazing and also humble unlike some other staff who seemed to only be interested in what money they could get out of you. Pizzas and burgers made to order at the beach bar and the water sports at illois are good.

Food was vary varied in the buffet every night and very clean. From salads to sushi to carved meat and fish. I loved the baklavas on the puddings section lots and always went back for seconds for the range of fresh bread that was on offer too along with fresh pasta cooked to your liking. We ate at the Sky and the TAnga Beach (Lebanese) which were top notch and wished we could eat there again. Top tip book these two at guest relations as soon as you get there.

My son loved the teens club which had wii, Xbox and free pool table to use and he also loved the animation and the waterpark. The facilities are so good and we also have had use of pedaloes and canoes.

Room for improvement is the service. The waiters in the buffet are on rotation and you never get to build much of a relationship with them. We have had great service in the past at other hotels as we have got to know waters and they have laid our tables out and had our drinks ready we then felt good about giving them a good tip. This couldn't happen in the aqua magic as the waiters were moved all the time. Another thing is that at the weekend there was not enough staff to cope with the amount of people in the Buffet. Tables were not cleared and there piles of food in plates left for ages which in turn made the place smell and attract flies. My thoughts were to get the cleaners that were sweeping the floor to support with clearing the tables as sometimes the waiters seemed lost and like they had no motivation.

We went on some trips and the quad bike to the Bedouin village was fantastic value for money. There was also the most lovely man who offers a limo service at the hotel ( black Mercedes) he was so helpful, kind and had some great values. We went out to the Senzo Mall and to the hard rock cafe and he took us. If you wan to to visit the shops go out of the complex and there is a stretch of shops a like long and the owners hassle but not as much as they do in the city centre. It's nice to walk along at night and sit in one of the bars outside of the hotel it is also very safe.

Aqua magic got in the spirit of the World Cup by putting the games on in the sky bar which I thought was great to do with all flags for the various countries. Nice little touches like this make all the difference

One more room for improvement is offer free late check outs and also reasonable priced spa treatments as this was missed.

Thanks Aqua Magic

I stayed here for 14 days at this hotel. I would like to say a very big thank you to all the staff here which made our lives easy and they are all very helpful. Hany Abdel Aziz Bar Manager top guy and very helpful. Samuel Medhat and Muktar (not sure on the spelling) - these guys were amazing, nothing was too much trouble and always looked after us. Moatz Ali, Micheal and all the other guys in the lobby bar could never do enough for you, always very helpful and very friendly. Sayed Fathy who works as a server in Magic Flavors restaurant, he always looked after us and was very helpful. Walid (Daffy duck) who worked in Magic Flavors restaurant too, he was funny and caring and always helpful. We went to the beach a lot too so the guys down there got to know us well, again nothing was too much trouble, so would like to say thank you to them, Adil and all the staff down there. Mohamed Badr the Thomas Cook rep was always in the hotel, always helped us and is a wonderful guy. The girls on guest relations especially Danielle, if you went to them with a problem it was always sorted. :D
The pools and beach were amazing, food was of a very good standard in Magic Flavors restaurant and Palappa restaurant which had only just opened. Alexanders beach restaurant the food here was amazing, never tried anything so nice before.
The negatives - in our room the towel rail was loose and coming off the wall, also the lights on the wall near the beds were coming off the wall too, which to me this just needs sorting out as its the little details which matter sometimes. We also had a problem with the door card to our door, it kept not working. This got tedious having it replaced all the time or the door battery changed. We found the first week quiet and very relaxed. On the second week there were a lot more Egyptian guests at the hotel and it was a lot more manic, we found them quite rude, loud and disrespectful as they pushed in que's and were rude to staff. Also there is a dress code in Magic Flavors restaurant at the tea time serving, but we found no-one following the dress code.
The only other problem was we had noisy neighbors who had the TV on full whack till silly o clock in the morning, but we reported this and it was sorted.

Katy

Room Tip: we stayed in room 5316, which was opposite the pools with the slides, decent size room, just noisey...

First, I have visited most of Red Sea hotels & this hotel is the best ever.

The stuff is excellent, well trained & very professional. Specially the night manager (Mr. Ramy Reda) as he is very helpful & always smiling :)
And because of this guy, I will extend my vacation.

Over all you will have a great vacation in this luxury hotel you will never forget.

5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 20, 2014

Just returned from a fortnight stay at the Aqua Magic, 4 adults. Didnt get off to the greatest of starts as we were late owing to flight & luggage problems so did not arrive at hotel until after midnight. Check in was fine and were told that there would be food for us at the lobby bar. However this was set out for anyone to take and before we had a chance it was gone. Took three more attempts before we managed to get a bread cake with cheese, no butter at 1am. The bar was packed with guests, mainly Egyptian and was a little chaotic. No welcome drink was offered on arrival either which was disappointing after a long flight and delay but the bar was open so no problems getting one. Anyway, that aside, our rooms were very nice, large comfy bed, table with 2 easy chairs, nicely set out bathroom and all was very clean. Overlooked the main pool and had a left sea view if you leaned forward a little on the balcony. Breakfast was very good with plenty of choice from cereal to cooked offerings, all hot. Loads of sunbeds around the hotels pools so no need to "reserve" with towels which makes a change. It takes a while to find your way around as it covers quite a large area. We mainly stayed around the quieter pool and were very well looked after by Adam who is in charge of the Breeze Bar. He was very attentive to everyone, sharing jokes and always has a welcoming smile on his face. He is a credit to the hotel. Once he got to know you, which only took one visit, he ensured drinks were served to you at your sunbed without even ordering any, nice touch Adam. Time spent at his bar was amusing with a brilliant rapore between him and the customers. The man never stopped.
The Lazy River was a lovely way to spend 20 minutes or so just going with the flow so to speak. It winds around the grounds and you can even stop at one of the bars and pick up a drink on the way round, served to you without leaving the ring. The beach is about a 15 minute steady walk through the sister hotel across the road, or you can use the buggy's available if you care to wait a short while. Plenty of sunbeds, however not enough with parasols which was never a problem if you went early but I can see this being a problem in high season. Nice beach bar serving food & drinks all day, burgers, pizza, hot dogs & chips, ice creams etc, of good quality. Always a waiter walking around if you dint want to leave your sunbed. Sea was nice and calm, even on windy days, with a gently sloping gradient so even not so confident swimmers could feel safe. Various water sports, free pedalos & canoes which was good. Animation team there organising games for the more active, which we were not in the heat, but they never pestered you. Sand is coarse so you may want to invest in some swimming shoes or sandals to walk down to the sea.
Back at the hotel there is a team of guest relation staff who were very helpful. Big thank you to Danielle as she was brilliant and very helpful, nothing seemed too much trouble and if she could help she would. She was often seen walking around the grounds asking for guests feedback, taking notes as well as room numbers. Nice touch we thought. We had a problem with our electric one day and mentioned it to her in conversation. The next day there was a knock on our door and someone from Room Service brought a tray of little cakes as a good will gesture. Very thoughtful. We found out later that Danielle had organised this.
So far so good, but not everything was perfect. The dining room in the evening was often total chaos, depending on what time you arrived. During our stay the main guests were Egyptian and they totally took over the place, some very rude to staff who were doing their best under extreme pressure at times. The amount of food these people took to their tables was unbelievable, and I would estimate that around 40% of it was left uneaten. Their children were allowed to fly around the dining areas on scooters which was very dangerous as other guests were walking with plates of hot food. They seemed to remain in the dining room from around 730pm to 930pm so seating was limited at times. The hotel staff did their best but were met with rudeness. However that aside, the food was varied and of a good quality, and replenished often. Everything for beef to chicken, veal, pastas cooked to order, and assorted desserts. We found that eating at either 7pm or after 930 were the quieter times. We dined in the rooftop Al A Carte a couple of times and I would recommend this for a much nicer dining experience. Whilst there they opened an Italian Restaurant but we never had the chance to dine there but were told it was nice.
Reception staff at times seemed unhelpful or unwilling to help and did not cope very well under pressure. More customer relations training needed there. Lack of communication was the main problem we felt.
There is free WI-Fi in the lobby and boy did you know it. Every evening it resembled a branch of PC World, with every possible device being used. Made me wonder why some people go on holiday if all they do is play on their tablets/phones/ laptops etc. all night, every night. Or that is maybe me showing my age, lol.
In summary this is a lovely hotel which when all the work is complete will probably be a good 5*, however I can only give it a 4*+ at the moment. They have a problem with the electrics with power going off several times a day, only for maybe 30 seconds or so, but annoying after a while. The dining situation needs sorting as soon as possible or they will struggle at peak times.
The staff on the whole make this hotel, very attentive and friendly, and apart from one or two exceptions, not angling for a tip. Location is pretty good with shops within walking distance. Free ice cream all day for everyone, not just children is a nice touch and much appreciated in 40 degrees burning sun. Would we return? probably but maybe in February/March when it will be cooler and quieter. This was our 4th visit to Egypt, 2nd to Hurghada, and have to say that even with the problems I mentioned it is the best so far, but still has work to be done. A big thank you to the staff who worked tirelessly all day and night, with again a special mention to Adam & Danielle who made our holiday experience on the whole, very pleasurable.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 5039 and it suited us, in the main block as reception and the dining room.
