“2nd stay, still good!”
Reviewed June 13, 2013 via mobile

We have stayed at the Sheraton El Gouna for the second time in June 2013. Based on our good experiences the first time in april 2010.

The staff at the Sheraton El Gouna make you feel welcome from the first moment you set foot in the hotel. The are friendly, customer oriented and almost all speak decent English.
The rooms are clean and well maintained although they do appear a little outdated and aged. The food at the buffet restaurant is good with a reasonable variety on a day-to-day basis. We again tried a couple of theme nights in the Italian and Oriental restaurants but didn't find the quality of the food to meet our standards. Especially given the fact that you pay an extra fee if you are on half board or all inclusive. At all of these nights the staff again was tremendous and welcoming but the additional entertainment mediocre. If you want a change of scenery and food we would recommend to go for the dine-around program.
The pool and beaches are clean and well organized. We found the staff at the pool more friendly compared to the beach staff. As an exception to the rest of the staff at the beach seem slow, uninterested and at times a bit rude. Therefore we chose to spend most of our days at the pool. The only thing we missed there was a small water slide for our daughter which would have made the fun complete.

Two additional comments I would like to make are:
- if you want to book a hotel with a limited amount of Russian guests, book here. Although the local families we have seen at the hotel this time can behave as bad as some of the Russian guests can.
- 3 years ago the pool and beaches had a sun lounger reservation policy and restriction. Meaning that you cannot put a towel on a bed and leave it unoccupied for more than 30 minutes. This rule seems to have vanished at the beach front. We highly appreciated this policy 3 years ago and it was one of the reasons for us to return to this hotel.

Our 8th visit to the Sheraton Miramar Hotel, and every trip is enjoyed as much as the first when we 'discovered' the wonderful resort of El Gouna, and the comforts of the Sheraton Miramar Hotel in particular. Until then, we had envied other people who had a regular resort they loved so much they returned to year after year. We tried some of those we read about, and lots of others too, but they didn't do it for us - until we found El Gouna and the Sheraton Miramar.

Now, whilst we continue to try other destinations, and have found another couple of resorts in Cuba and Turkey we also enjoy, this hotel in this location continues to be our No 1 holiday choice. There's no discussion when we plan our holiday calendar - we first decide when we'll go to the Sheraton Miramar, and fit all our other holidays around it. Yes, we're lucky, we have several holidays each year now that we're retired, but we both agree if we could only have one, it would be to the Sheraton Miramar in El Gouna.

Why? Because of the wonderful staff, the only breakfast terrace in any hotel in El Gouna that overlooks the Red Sea, the fantastic view from our standard room in the 7000 block, the quiet relaxation beach and the company of 'Mr Bastowie', the wonderful architecture and impeccable gardens, the lagoons that meander throughout the resort, the bridges, the solitude, and Reda, Waffy in reception, and especially Mr Hamdy Khalaf, Guest Relations Director, who deals with all our correspondence, and the many staff we value in customer services who have both helped me to speak and now write Arabic (right to left too such that I can sign my bills in Arabic!).

This hotel is not boutique: it's not ultra luxurious: it doesn't do candlelit baths drawn by butlers. However, more importantly in my opinion, its comfortable, it does great customer relations, good food - thou we mostly dine in town in the evening because there's so much choice of restaurants - has a fantastic sea front position, loyal, professional, helpful staff, great service, good beds, regular changes of linen (thank you Amir) and all the things I value in a quality holiday in an upmarket resort such as El Gouna.

Yes, I love it - especially now that we qualify for extra repeat guest benefits that make us feel our custom is so valued in these slightly difficult times for the Egyptian tourist industry. Our last visit was in February / March and we wholeheartedly look forward to be being back in the Autumn when the temperatures are cooler.

Cheers

Room Tip: Standard rooms in 7000 block offer good value with a lagoon vie.

Failed to live up to expectations particularly after reading the reviews on this site. Soul-less, lacked any kind of atmosphere. The resort, given its size, was barely occupied. The food over priced and sub standard. My husband and I spent 5 days of our 10 day trip being ill. The rooms are very tired and we were forced to move during our stay because of a major problem with the air conditioning which leaked water all over the bedroom floor. No attempt to compensate us was made despite the fact that we were on our honeymoon. There was very little to do apart from sunbathing. What there was came at a price! They even tried to book us on an all day dolphin trip knowing that the location had been shut down! What staggered belief though was the hotels on site shops selling fake goods but appearing to pass them off as real given the price tags. On the plus side the staff were extremely helpful and friendly although I might add I will not have the pleasure of seeing them again any time in the future as I have NO intention of returning to this massively over rated hotel.

Room Tip: Don't go!

Dear Lisa S,

Thank you very much for your feedback and comments. Please accept my apology for not meeting your expectation during your recent stay with us.

Our food and beverage hygiene standards are checked by an international company on monthly basis followed by internal actions and daily check by our Kitchen team to apply high standards of Hygiene.

As far as I understand you have been moved/upgraded to a beach front due to the aircondition shortfall.

I will make sure that your comments about the dolphin trip is shared with the 3rd party organizing it.

Once again please accept my apology and I am sure that we can show you that we can do better during your coming stay with us. Please contact me to arrange it all for you.

We stayed one night in a deluxe room overlooking the sea. The room overall is good, but wasn't as clean as i expected it to be. The beach is nice and the food is great.

Staff are average, they're lazy and dont give you much attention. You dont feel welcomed.

The diving center is good, the diving guide makes you explore the sea and gives you value for your money.

Overall, sheraton miramar was under my expectations and for me, i'll never visit it again.

i stayed in Sheraton elgouna as i wanted to see the distinctive architecture of the american architect Michael graves. the place is really awesome, the staff is so professional, food is good, the place is very wide resort. the lagoons are very good as red sea beaches are full of stones and other sharp stuff on the ground so we went for the artificial lagoons that looked just like real beaches , we enjoyed wandering around, the place is so big, i had to walk around using my gps.
every night they made a show, i attended the oriental night.
