“Just not for me”
Reviewed February 4, 2013

Stayed here for a week in January. I think i just got off on the wrong foot with my stay here. We arrived late so we booked a transfer with the hotel. Once we arrived at the airport the transfer wasnt there. It was late and the airport was closing so we couldnt wait. So we had to go and haggle with the late night taxi drivers and they knew we were stranded so it was hard to get a resonable price. The hotel its self is nice, the staff are friendly and the rooms are great (the bed is a bit hard). The only problem is its location its so far out of town and if you need to go to town outside of the shuttle times its hard. Once again we booked a taxi to take us to town, we were told it would be here in 10 min, 20 mins were still waiting and we had a kitesurfing lesson booked and we were late. So we had to walk out onto the road and flag down a passing car for a lift. Its good hotel if you just want to sit by the pool and relax. Looking back i should have just booked to stay at the lagoon because i like activities and there is plent to do at the lagoon.

Dear Guest, thank you for your review, and i feel very sorry for the transfer, i will take my action for this that it will not happen again, to com pair our hotel with the lagoon, it is totally different, the lagoon have a sandy beach and a lot of water-sport activities, but we have a wonderful reef for diving and snorkeling, this you cant do in the lagoon, so every place is different , and every guest his choice is different. I have guest who go every day to the lagoon and come back afternoon, i have guest who stay whole day on the pool, i have guest who dive a whole day, i have guest who likes snorkeling, so for each guest their is always something to do, When you speak that you like the lagoon , the lagoon is just 10 min , 15 minutes from the hotel, and you can take a shuttle like a lot of hotels have, to move around, because we are in the dessert so everything is not like in the city, all next to each other. dear guest, i want to thank you for the nice comment for my staff and the good comments about our hotel.
Best regards

We have just returned for a 3rd time from the Tropitel Dahab Oasis.
Once again the staff have changed since our previous visit but they are all had working polite & conscientious Along with a new GM Brigitte.
We had emailed George on reception & requested our favourite room, which was all ready for us on arrival.
The buffet style restaurant has a variety of food to suit all tastes. I especially like the breakfast with its cooked to order omlettes & yummy fresh pastries.
Snacks are available 3 times a day.
Nice to see this year that the lobby bar is now Non smoking. The balcony bar area is now a smoking area which is much better.
Also this time the pool bar was open in the evenings which is lovely.
The Bedouin tent has been revamped & we had a wonderful evening there. We even dressed up :) (Thank-you to Butchi & Ali G for getting us the clothes) There is far too much food to possibly eat so skip lunch. The Bedouin evening is not included but well worth paying for.
The hotel runs a free bus service to Dahab & back which we used a few times.
For a relaxing holiday the Tropitel is well recomended.
The house reef never ceases to amaze us...its like being in a aquarium !
In our 3 week stay we had no problems at all even though there are renovations taking place.
The work taking place did not affect our stay & disruption is minimal.
We love this small peaceful little oasis & cant wait to return.

We returned for our 2nd visit to the Tropitel for 2 weeks at the start of December. I had e-mailed the hotel before our arrival to see if we could have the same room as before and almost received an immediate reply. On arrival at the hotel, George on reception was there to greet us and was pleased to let us know he had kept the room for us. Thank you George!

This is a wonderful hotel in beautiful surroundings, the backdrop of the mountains is breathtaking. Its just the perfect place to relax and unwind as it is so peaceful. It really felt like we had come back to visit friends and the staff do genuinely remember you and do their utmost to ensure that you have all you need for a great holiday. There had been some staff changes since our previous visit and it was sad that Melad was no longer there but our thanks go to Sherif, Nagy, Sharl and Wael for making our holiday special. All the staff here work very long hours but are always seen happy and smiling and they really can't do enough for you.

The food here is very good with plenty of choice, always well prepared, tasty and hot. There is also an excellent salad bar with too much to choose from and various different types of bread. My husband is a very fussy eater and he always enjoys the food here. One thing I like is that the chefs are on hand to talk to or tell you what the dishes are. If these is something that you want to eat, all you have to do is ask them and they will try to do it - even a plate of french fries! There is also afternoon tea and cakes served now at 4pm at the pool. We did not try this though as we were always too full up from lunch! I would highly recommend the Bedouin meal, but only eat a small lunch, if any, if you do as the amount of food you get is amazing! The hotel also does a beach party night that is good fun and it was held in the bedouin tent this year which gave a better atmosphere.

Brigitte the new General Manager is trying to make improvements to the hotel in what is a difficult time for Egypt and this must be remembered. She is always on hand to speak to and Sherif now also takes part in overseeing things. They are more than happy to listen to any guest comments. It is nice that the pool bar is now also opened in the evenings as an alternative to the lobby bar and hopefully now the Bedouin tent will be used more as it is amazing to sit there at night under a blanket of stars. It would be nice if in future, if funds allow, they could get the other restaurant opened also as an alternative to the buffet dining.

The boys in the shop at the hotel are great guys and if you ask they will get you anything you need, they are also happy if you just pop in for a chat! Butchi is also available there for various trips and excursions. We have done 2 trips with Butchi, star gazing and White Canyon and 'Butchi Canyon'!!. There were amazing trips and he provides so much information about Egypt and the Sinai area, he is also a fantastic story-teller! I would thoroughly recommend booking a trip with him.

Once again, a fabulous holiday at The Tropitel, we miss our Friends there! but hope to see you all again later this year!!

Don't let stories of unrest in Egypt put you off going there. They need your custom and none more than the people of Dahab who generally are very poor.
The hotel, an hours run from Sharm airport has good points and some which are definitely not good. Its very popular with divers and has some really interesting places to visit on the day trips.
On the plus side, its small and friendly and set in an amazing position on the edge of the beach with impressive mountains behind. However the beach is not good and certainly not suitable for children. You can see Saudi Arabia from the beach but no day trips there!! There is a really lovely swimming pool, lush gardens, good pool bar and plenty of chairs, tables and sun loungers. The staff are really attentive and very nice people, always cheerful despite incredibly long hours of work.
The bedrooms are well equipped and very clean. In fact the whole hotel is clean.
The area that lets this hotel down is the food. Anyone who says its good is not used to good food either at home or away.
At breakfast, the cereal is reasonable, omelettes which are freshly made are good, bread and criossants are plentiful. The only fruit every day is chopped melon. There is a need for muesli to go with the excellent yoghurt and more variety of fruit.
At lunch and dinner, the soups are thin and watery. There is always the same kind of white fish and the chicken is boney chicken thighs. There is every combination possible of lettace, tomato and cucumber but it needs cheeses, prawns, tuna or sardines to go with it. Again the fruit is repetitious with orange and grapefruit and occasionally dates or banana.
The drink served in the bars is inadequate. The beer is good but the gin, whiskey and brandy do not taste like anything you would drink in the UK. If you don't drink beer or spirits you are stuck as the only wine is served in the restaurant and is an indifferent white or red. Annoyingly you can pay and get good wine or cocktails. This should not be the case. The tea is ok but the coffee neeeds to be either Kenco or Nescafe as its pretty bad!
There is a very frequent free bus service into Dahab from the hotel. That is worth a visit. Plenty of shops selling very good quality pashminas, clothes, bags and ornaments.
It is also worth visiting Al Capones restaurant. We paid £50 for four people for a five course delicious meal which included the biggest fresh fish platter we had ever seen. Take note Tropitel!
The hotel needs a visit from an independant hotel inspector, preferably me!! to sort out its deficiencies. Once done it is the perfect place to enjoy the sun and get away from the British Winter.
It would be a tragedy for the local economy if any more hotels close down. Egypt is an amazing country with impressive scenery and really lovely people.
People say that you don't go to Egypt for its cuisine, however we have been four times so far and believe me you CAN get good food.
This is a lovely hotel which just needs to get the food situation sorted out!!

Room Tip: The downstairs rooms are very good looking out over the gardens. Also ask for sea view. The views fr...

dear guest,
first i want to thank you for your comment and special to mention that Egypt is safe, special Dahab and sharm el sheikh. We are 500 kilometers away from cairo, Concern the beach , you mention it is not good, it depends what guest prefer, we dont have a sandy beach but we have a beautiful reef and coral in front of us, we have a marina to go in to the sea, our guest love to snorkel and dive here. I ff you prefer to have a sandy beach we shave the lagoon in dahab, it is just 10 minutes away from our hotel, guest can choose what they like. for the children, yes we dont have to much , we dont have animation team, but our staff taking care of our little guest, and the children who where with us loved it. Thank you for mention tat the hotel is clean and to praise my staff. concerning the food, look we are an All inclusive hotel with an all inclusive buffet, we have our budget, but if you pay for us 50 sterling a la carte, i am sure you couldn't eat it all also, we are not the same like the restaurants in Dahab, you can not com pair an a la carte menu with an all inclusive menu., but i can tell you that all my food is fresh, and if you would had join us for Bedouin dinner i am sure you would like our a la carte menu for more less price that you mention. The soup we serve, we have different kind every day, the salad bar, it think when you see photos that other guest took and put them on trip advisor, i think their is a lot of
different choices, not only what you mention. The fruit, yes their is not to much choice because at the moment the fruits here a very expensive because it is winter, and we have a budget we need to stay in. but their is always a kind of fruit in the buffet. The spirits, are local alcohol, we cant serve imported because it is very expensive, and by the way all hotels in Egypt use the local alcohol in their all inclusive system. The coffee, i already cancel the coffee, to change the kind to improve. To satisfied every guest is not easy but we do our best to make every guest happy during their stay. I read your notes and for sure i keep my eye on it, and i do my best to improve what you mention.
Thank you

This hotel is such a find, we will definitely return here. The location is superb - I made sure I was up at 6am most days to watch the sunrise - something else! We like to spend most of our holiday doing absolutely nothing, and the Tropitel is perfect for this - no-one trying to push you into this trip and that adventure, they just tell you where to come when you're ready.
The bar and waiting staff are very hard working and, as the hotel is understaffed - very overstretched! - but they still take the time to make you feel like you are their only guests - hats off to those guys.
There is no evening entertainment but Mohaa the barman creates a fantastic atmosphere in the bar with his wonderful sense of humour and delightful smile - a real asset to this hotel and I hope they recognise it soon!
Everywhere was clean, the room was spacious and comfortable - I loved the Queen size bed with it's firm mattress - best 14 nights sleep in years. Clean sheets and towels every day. Our room attendant was amazing - his towel art was fantastic, we had hearts, flowers, swans, crocodiles, and all so beautifully presented, nice touch!
The dining hall itself is a bit 'canteeny' but there is plenty of choice, I was in food heaven as I love fresh fruit and salads - and there was an abundence of these. Breakfast was especially good - the breads and pastries were delicious, plenty of choice for hot food, also cheese, ham, terrines - you could have something different every day for a month. Although for main meals there was plenty of choice of 'accompaniments' there was usually only about 2 main protein dishes, which were a bit samey day to day - chicken and fish, fish and beef, chicken and beef etc. generally cooked in the same way, although some nights we had homemade burgers/bbq/wraps, which were excellent.
We didn't have a problem with the AI rules about wine only at meal times - the wine was very tasty and if we sat around drinking it all day we would never have made the sunrise and delicious breakfast :-)
My one and only gripe - the health spa is expensive - more than you would pay in the UK. I found the spa sales-girl over pushy (my only experience of this at the hotel for the whole holiday), I negotiated a fairly reasonable deal in the end, but I particularly didn't like being pushed into a further sale immediately after just having a 2 hour treatment - really bad timing! But the masseurs were lovely and the massage very good, which made up for it.
One bit of advice - go prepared for mosquito bites if you're prone!

The first impression you get of this hotel is how helpful and friendly the staff are. Secondly (once it was light) how stunning the location is and how pretty the hotel grounds are. The rooms are perfectly acceptable and very clean. The beds are quite hard but I prefer this so wouldn't complain. There was one occasion (in 2 weeks) when we were unable to get hot water but otherwise had no problems and the bathroom was nice with a good shower (no bath). The staff who clean the rooms have the most amazing skills at fashioning towels into various flowers and birds and the scene we came back to on a couple of occasions was stunning!

I thought for a typical all inclusive buffet style restaurant, the food was very good. I am a vegetarian and didn't have any problem finding nice things to eat. At breakfast there is hot and cold options, freshly made omelettes with whatever you want in them, and plenty of pastries to choose from. Lunch and dinner would always have plenty of salad and bread as well as several meat and vegetable options as well as a pasta station where you could choose whatever you wanted on your pasta as they cooked it for you. There was always plenty of desserts too although to be honest they mostly taste quite similar. We met some people who refused to eat the salad in case it had been washed in dirty water but I ate salad every single day and it was not only delicious but i didn't get ill at all! The waiters are friendly but occasionally they seem a bit short staffed so there can be a wait for things like drinks. There is also a bit of a shortage of cups and glasses on occasions so they could do with buying another bulk load rather than having to do several dishwasher loads during a meal time! However, these were very minor problems that only happened on occasion so I wouldn't say it distracted too much from the overall impression which was very positive.

The bar staff were helpful, especially the lovely manager Mohammed (who also makes the best cocktails). Don't go to Egypt hoping to drink decent wine unless you're prepared to pay a fortune for it! I stuck to beer and the occasional cocktail and was very happy!

There is no entertainment at this hotel but personally I prefer that as its a small hotel and it would be hard to get away from it if you didn't like it. We had no problem enjoying ourselves reading, chatting and playing cards. At this time of year the sun is gone by 4 and its completely dark by 6pm but in the daytime it is really warm by 9.30am or so, so actually we had quite a lot of 'early to bed, early to rise' occasions when we had day trips or were going diving. If a brilliant nightlife is an important part of your holiday, don't come here. If you want to relax and are happy to entertain yourselves, it's perfect.

The hotel is about 15 mins by bus into Dahab and the hotel runs a shuttle bus that goes 2 hourly. You could walk to Dahab if you wanted but its probably not the nicest walk. A better one is to go in the other direction along the beach to the Blue Hole. You'll pass a lot of jeeps taking divers to the dive sites and a LOT of camels (with their owners) wanting to give you rides! We walked there and got a camel back (I think the walking was quicker, but the camel definitely more fun!)

I had a really lovely 2 weeks here and would definitely come back and would recommend others to come here too. The pics on here give you a good idea of what the place is like and as long as you have realistic expectations you will have a fab time!
