“Great hotel with a couple of drawbacks...”
Reviewed April 9, 2013

Hi All - I visited the Meridien at the end of Feb 2013 and really enjoyed my stay, the hotel is in a beautiful location and the standard of room was excellent... However for those of you considering going, here's some tips/comments you might find useful...
Transfers - the hotel doesn't have a regular shuttle, so I booked with an independant co (check out travelsupermarket) which were a fraction of the cost the hotel offered me by private transfer
Money - I stupidly exchanged money at Stansted and could have agot a much better rate at the banks within Dahab...
Dahab is really quite quiet and chilled - its a fraction of the size of Sharm - so if you're expecting a party town, its definitely not..
Admittedly it was out of season when I went but the hotel was probably a quarter full - so again if you're looking for a livelier place then try the Hilton which seemed much busier when I visited
Rooms - mine was standard and was suberb - I was shown the upgrade option but apart from being closer to the beach and having an outside shower area (??) there wasnt much in it...
The Hotel is a about 10 mins drive from the main center and it isn't advisable to walk unless you're pretty fit, as there's v little shade en route...
The hotel only has a couple of shuttles into town per day - which I'm assuming is a bizarre attempt to keep you to try their restaurant (which is v good the only night I tried)
The gym is v limited.
Windsurfing *** although there is windsurfing onsite and the guys there are excellent, please be aware that they are a separate company - so all usage is chargeable PLUS you need to be at an intermediary stage to surf there. I'm a beginner so had to travel to their sister site at the Hilton on order to brush up on my turns in the lagoon. If you're advanced you'll love it as there's hardly anyone using that part of the sea, and Mistral has great kit available...
Food - plenty of restaurants in Dahab to consider - catering for the tourists taste at around the £20 a head mark, however if you want to try somethimng more authentic - walk along the front to the Lighthouse area and look for Mona Mama, an egyptian place ticked around a corner, that I would never have gone into ordinarily without a local recommending... turns out to be best food of the holiday... and all for £3.50 each :o)

All in all - I would definitely go back - this is my 5th trip to egypt and Le Meridien is probably the highest standard hotel of all, however hopefully the points above will prove useful to anyone considering going.

Dear Hip59
Thank you for your positive review. We are delighted to know that you have enjoyed your experience and relaxing holiday at Le Meridien Dahab Resort, and that the room, facilities and services were up to your expectations.
Your comments regarding our the shuttle service have been noted and just need to clarify that we have many guests staying on half board and all inclusive meals plan and they requested to have this service at the current schedule to be able to have their dinner at the hotel and then move for a walk and shopping at Dahab, that is why the schedule was set trying to satisfy the majority of our guests,
We thank you again for your positive review and the constructive feed back which is very important to us.
Look forward to welcoming you again at Le Meridien Dahab Resort in the near future.
Thanks and best Regards
ashraf

First of all, apologies for a very late review - we stayed here for a week in late Nov and had a fabulous time. we are loyal to the Starwood brand when we can and stayed in quite a few LM properties last year (Vienna, Cyprus) and loved the experience here.

When we arrived at the resort, it had just experienced 'a once in a lifetime' type rain and flood event that pretty much washed out all of the pools and the reception areas and dining places. so we had very little choice in terms of pools for the first day or two, but the pools gradually started opening up after day 3. the beach was fine (albeit stones), but every now and then someone would wash the paths or the pools down and all the dirty sludge came into the ocean and clouded it up.

only one of the restaurants was open for breakfast and dinner. the beach restaurant was open during this time. food choice , i think, was limited because of this flood. breakfast was not as vast as i have seen/had in other LM properties, but was adequate. service was a bit poor at times - sometimes due to language issues, but other times just plain lack of focus on service (e.g. asked for a baby highchair and was given one that had dirt all over it. i pointed out one area and the waiter took it away and cleaned it and brought it back. but did not notice the dirt on the straps, etc. took 3 tries one morning to get a clean highchair - would not expect this from a LM resort).

the room was bungalow style - we had one of the front row bungalows over the diving center - the other side is much quieter and faces the ocean without any obstruction. our views were just as good, but you needed to walk around the dive center a bit to get to the beach - whereas on the other side, you can walk straight line to the beach. on the plus side, the kids club was right below. we had an outdoor shower, which was nice. the porch in the front was good and had a lounger and table and was good for sitting out in the evenings to admire view and the stars. our door was stuck quite a bit during our stay and we were told this was due to the floods. some of the basic maintenance things seem to be ignored e.g. crooked room signs and lights on the walkways.

room service was excellent and value for money. we used this extensively to feed our toddler before heading to the restaurants or into town for an adult meal.

kids club - not much going on here. probably because it was Nov and also because of the rains. our toddler had a babysitter (nadia) arranged by the hotel at $10 an hour and spent some time in the kids club, but mostly stayed in the room. Nadia was fabulous and i would recommend her to anyone else looking for sitting services. you have to book through the hotel, but you can pay her directly in EGP.

taxis into town were 20 EGP if i remember correctly. arranged through the hotel. the reception underestimates the time it takes for the taxi to arrive - one of the nights we waited almost 30 mins for a taxi to arrive. so would suggest you plan for it accordingly. the taxi drivesr can usually pick you back up from dahab town as well.

hotel arranged for a private taxi from sharm airport - that worked great for us. price was pretty good too ($50) - for a 100km trip one way. we found that reasonable especially not having to wait for a coach or other passengers.

pools - the pools gradually opened up during our stay. the areas around the pool were not kept up - not sure if this was because of the floods or that was always. e.g. i found a room service knife lying by the shallow salt water pool for 3 days in a row, dead sparrow on one of the days. i would expect the grounds keeping staff to notice and pick these up immediately.

nov was a good time, felt a bit chillly at times, but water and sun were warm and perfect for us.

all in all, we loved this resort despite the flood issues (which are out of the hotel's control) and the improvement areas. the resort is well laid out and can be a relaxing environment for a vacation. we will definitely return.

Room Tip: pay for a superior sea view and ask for a room at the front line of the resort.

I was at Le Meridien Dahab over the long Easter weekend. We had a very warm welcome and were quickly checked in and led to our room. The room was amazing, with a private patio and an outdoor shower in the back and another patio facing the ocean up front. The hotel is pristine, everything super clean with great landscaping. The dinner menu is pretty limited so unless you're into buffets, definitely worth heading to town for dinner. We used the hotel shuttle a couple of times but they pick you up an hour and a half later which is not long enough for dinner (as most restaurants give you starters and dessert). That's probably the only negative I found about the hotel. Otherwise, strongly recommended.

Dear VC00
Thank you for your detailed feedback, it was pleasure to learn the you had a great experience at Le Meridien Dahab Resort from the start till the end although we regret to know, that the shuttle bus schedule didn’t meet up your expectations. It is correct, that the evening trip goes at 20:30 and back at 22:00, but this was according to majority of guest preferences especially the half board or all inclusive as they wanted to visit Dahab after having their dinner and come back at the stated time, however we will look into possibility to have another trip that can suit some other guests,
Thank you for your valuable feedback, as we always strive to improve our services and facilities.
Best regards

We stayed at Le Meridien Dahab in Nov 12. This time of year was perfect - 26 degrees everyday with clear skies and slight breeze - we stayed out everyday from sunrise (7am) to sunset (6pm). This is a stunning colourful resort about an hour from Sharm el Sheikh Airport. This is a really great place to relax and do nothing (or there is a long list of scuba/diving for those who aren't drinking cocktails all day). The resort does have its own private beach and stretch of coral for those that would prefer to buy a snorkel in the local shop for 15Euros each. I would advise against the Buffet restaurant in the evening due to the quality of the food but the poolside A La Carte "Vie" restaurant was fabulous! The rooms are situated in long tiered rows - we had the front row so that we had a pool/sea view rather than a brick wall - this is certainly recommended. The hotel had a great terrace bar with plenty of cocktails - the service was slow and as a tip: foreign spirits/beers are heavily taxed so make sure you go Egyptian - the Gin & Tonic is Egyptian and cost c.4Euros but a vodka & tonic is not and costs c.8Euros.

We went into Dahab one evening (which was enough!!) - it was a run down market town situated on the seafront. The constant hassling of store owners and restaurant doormen meant that we had a far from pleasurable experience. However once seated in a 'restaurant' we had a lovely meal for half the price of the resort.

Finally, this hotel does not have a "cat problem". There is one adorable family (mother and four kittens) that come out to play in the evening but they were never a pest!

Just returned from a twelve day stay at the Meridian. Absolute bliss. If you are looking for somewhere to unwind and relax, where you can be pampered by the most efficient, friendly and yet unobtrusive staff, then you cannot do better than the Meridian.
We don't usually visit the same place twice, but this was our second visit to the Meridian, and we certainly weren't disappointed.
The rooms are excellent as is the standard of cleaning.
The breakfast is an experience in itself - the selection and choices are enought to satisfy even the most jaded of palates!
Constant sunshine, peace and quiet, excellent accomodation and a lovely atmosphere. This is what is on offer at the Meridian, Dahab.

Room Tip: The deluxe rooms represent great value

We had a fantastic 8 night stay in March 2013 - our room (std double) was very comfortable and well cleaned. The swimming pools were fantastic (at this time of year the heated one makes a real difference and made swimming very enjoyable!), excellent sun beds and great snorkelling from the jetty - we saw a really good variety of fish. Breakfast was awesome and dinner was high quality but expensive, so most nights we took a taxi to Dahab (£4-6 return) and ate in town - Meya Meya to the right of the main bridge provides fantastic foo, good atmostphere and is pretty cheap. We windsurfed with Club Mistral, but as we are beginners we went round to the lagoon and took boards out from the Club Mistral centre in the Hilton - the windsurf guys in the hotel will organise the 5 min taxi ride (£4 return). In summary we had a fabulous stay and highly recommend the hotel.
