“Great location”
Reviewed September 2, 2012

Nice hotel, big rooms, with balconies and good bathrooms. Location excellent, great views and snorkelling. Note that you cannot enter the sea directly off the beach, but should do so via the jetty, to avoid destroying the coral at the sea edge. This is not indicated anywhere, so beware. Watersports available on site. Beach bar brilliant for sunsets. We had b&b, so lunches and dinner were expensive. Evening meals out in Dahab were preferable. Free shuttle to Dahab v good, taxis also cheap alternative. Resort was very quiet, so plenty of sun loungers etc. Pools lovely and cleaned during our stay. Free wifi in lobby area....really should be in all rooms in a 5 star resort. Room cleaning and daily minibar checks rather irksome, with over solicitous staff clearly in search of tips. Dive school excellent and very flexible.

Superb, relaxed resort, on it's own about ten minutes drive from Dahab Town. You really feel great when you get out of the heat into that huge cool reception are and get a glass of lovely fruit coolness.
Rooms are ok, nice courtyard at the back with outdoor shower. Front terrace not private at all, the path down to the other rooms means everyone can look in. You have to keep the net curtain drawn.
Food is extremely ordinary, sadly. You get much nicer food in town and it's 30 Egyptian Pounds each way in a cab, of which there are many for the return journey. Thai food in La Vie restaurant in the hotel is thoroughly eclipsed by the Thai Blue Room in Dahab for example.
Having said that, breakfast buffet is very adequate, if not the usual Le Meridien standard, but we enjoyed it.
The swimming pools are lovely, clean and pretty. Nice nests and pods (not enough for the German early morning magazine and towel place baggers though) which are lovely to relax in.
The beach is rocky but there's a good decking jetty to swim from. The beach restaurant is good but not open in the evening sadly.
The diving school is superb. Very professional, great with learners and with pros. Five star.
Rodenko has a great water sports centre with all the windsurfing and watersports paraphanalia wou would want.
The Spa and Gym are still a building site, despite being meant to be finished.
There are feral cats all over the place which beg from you and lick the cleared plates which the waiters have left behind, slightly gross.
However! I loved our stay, this is a relaxed and beautiful place, Dahab is more bohemian than Sharm and has some charm. The Meridien is an oasis of luxury and the other 3 or 4 five star luxury resort hotels in Dahab are tired by comparison. I would go back.

Room Tip: Don't get put in the back rows

A hot moonscape lies around this Thunderbirds secret base. Watch out what time of year you go, it's not called the desert for nothing! The temperature reaches boiling point and it's no use pretending it doesn't. The main problem for this hotel appears to be that the clientele all get gyppie tummy. This fact is borne out by the residents of the local town Dahab and the people staying elsewhere who come to the excellent hotel dive centre, whose first question is "have you had a bad stomach from there yet? Everyone does!" Very disheartening and all four of us went down with it at some stage during our stay.
It is conceivable that the feral cats that we saw licking the plates on any vacated table (eeuch!) in the restaurant had something to do with it. The staff leave food for them and felophile guests throw them scraps. They are ubiquitous.
Good points. Great swimming pools, five star Poseidon Dive Centre which is on site but they don't manage or own, sea breeze, great view.
INSPECTACLES TOP TIP. When traveling anywhere in Egypt, Antinal, only available there, will sort out tummy trouble in 24 hours. Brilliant.

Room Tip: In the front row near the pool, not overlooking it. 620 to 640. The 700s, 800sand 900s have no sea...

Beautiful and only 1 hour drive from SSH airport and well worth the extra effort to get there. We were upgrded and received al the deserved recognition for my spg platinum status. My son liked the diving school and it was a reasonable price. The gym was nothing but they will soon open a new full sevice gym. The hotel setting is spectacular between the mountains and the sea. The beach was very nice , the main restaraunt could have used more variety on the dinner menu but i think due to the slow season they had limited choices. Buffet bfast was ample and of good quality. Dahab is an easy shuttle drive away and worth going to for meal /drinks / light shoping but not much more that. If you want a place to chill with the family for awhile, this is it and a nice break from the dry sands of the desert. It is a shame that tourists are shying away from this area due to security concerns, as the locals are very friendly while i felt security was fine.

Room Tip: Beach front worth it but if crowded not much privacy as walkway between room and beach.

This was our 3rd trip back to this hotel and whilst we had another lovely time it had clearly taken a backward step since the new manager has been put in.
The service was always slack to say the least but there seemed to had been a further cut back in staff numbers. All the staff are super friendly but an air of malaise seems to have set in. We had to search staff out to get a drink on the beach and in the bar (this happened every day).
While we were there the restaurant had no aircon for several days which for a 5* hotel is unacceptable (no matter which country your in) - especially when it's 35 degrees!
The worst thing was the resort has been overrun with feral cats which use the lobby planters as a toilet. They run through the restaurant and all around the pool - this never happened before.
Overall we were disappointed as we'd always had such a great time before.

We stayed for 6 nights (Late July 2012). The layout of the hotel is spectacular, positioned on the side of a mountain leading down to the red sea. We stayed in a deluxe sea view room and would highly recommend staying in this type of room as some rooms backed onto the road at the front of the hotel. We had an outdoor private shower and spacious room.

There is a twice daily free shuttle bus into dahab.

Food was ok, buffet breakfast was great, though buffet dinner was a bit of a let down for 5 star.
Staff were friendly if a little distant compared to other hotels we stayed in during our trip.

Overall very happy with our stay and the hotel. Would recommend staying here.

Room Tip: Would recommend a room in the 600 block

We spent a week here on a diving holiday (not much else to do except sunbathe!) and got a good deal on one of the sea front rooms. It's fabulous waking up in the morning with a view framed by palm trees and bougainvillea, straight out to sea.

Room a generous size, bed very comfortable and lovely bed linen. If I'm going to be picky, the wardrobe space and bedside shelving weren't great. The bathroom is fabulous - raised big bath with windows all round (view onto back terrace), separate shower, and fun shutters opening into the main room. All in good condition and very clean. We didn't make much use of the private terrace/outdoor shower which is out the back - good for gecko watching and storing suitcases, however.

Breakfast is good, a generous and wide selection of hot and cold food, including too many tempting pastries. Dinner in the restaurant not such a great experience: we tried the a la carte which had a very limited menu; the buffet evenings are a better bet if you can't be bothered to go into town for dinner (although stil not a gourmet experience). Egyptian wine surprisingly drinkable - particularly during "happy hour". There was an oud player for a few hours each evening - incredibly relaxing to sit outside and listen to his music (although the greatest hits/karaoke style medley wasn't so relaxing)

This is a great place to go if you like sunbathing, diving or doing nothing. The hotel is on the side of a hill, so gets breezes all day, and I easily lost track of time...

Room Tip: Treat yourself to one of the sea front rooms.
