“Excellent resort in Dahab”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 26, 2009

Location: 2-3 km south of Dahab town, directly on the Dahab Laguna seafront (Gulf of Aqaba) with an immaculate private beach, dive center and windsurf center. Offers free minibus services to town. Taxis are always available and cost merely 10 Egyptian Pounds (LE) (1 Euro = 7-8 LE).
[ Note: it is considered polite to double that amount during the night hours ]

Lay out: trident-shaped structure one-story high. Each arm of the trident is a row of rooms, with in-between 1) a large curvely-shaped pool and 2) a garden with an amphitheater for artistic / cultural events. All rooms have a spacious terrace (ground level) or balcony (1st floor).

Rooms: just spacious enough, not overly decorated but still cosy. Excellent storage space with safe and mini-bar in it. TV, air conditioning, desk, comfortable chairs, table... everything you need. Beds are moveable (wheels), matrasses are of very good quality.

Staff: very friendly, good mastering of foreign languages like English and German. Gives the guest a true feeling of being welcome (no display of "forced" kindness). Problems are solved on the spot or as quickly as humanly possible (in my case: the safe wasn't closing properly, which wasn't a real problem since NOONE of the staff would steal from a guest; within 5 mn, a manager was in my room checking the safe, problem solved).
I noticed that the bar staff works long shifts (12-15 hours 6 days a week), but even at the end of it, they display the same kindness and efficiency. Compliments are in place.

Cleanliness: simply awesome, on a daily basis. I witnessed on one occasion the cleaning staff operate, and I must compliment them on their work. Also: a nice personal touch is left like folding one of the towels into a snake-shape, folding the curtains into an angel-shape, or leaving hibiscus petals on the neatly made bed. May sound trivial, but to me it shows that one touch of hospitality that makes a difference.

Service: 2 large restaurants, 3 bars (1 in main hall, 1 at the pool, 1 at the beach), open until 1.00 am. Sauna / massage facility, small but very well equipped fitness room (I used it quite often), laundry service, animation for kids and adults during the day...
(ball games, beach/pool games, aerobics...).

Food: an estonishing buffet for all cases: breakfast, lunch and dinner. I have been in many 5-star hotels whose variety of dishes was far inferior to that of Dahabeya. Not to mention the quality and hygiene: perfect.

Varia: there's a focus on quality management, characterized by asking guests for a written feedback on how to improve the services. But in my case, I had no negative feedback at all (I am definitely not the "whining" type, but I surely am a critical person).

Conclusion: Iberotel Dahabeya is not a 5-star resort, but to be honest, it deserves a 5th star for the quality of the staff and the quality of the services provided.
So okay, there's no room service... so what ? If walking a maximum 30 meters to one of the bars open until 1.00 am is too much for you, do me a favor... just stay at home or go pay loads of cash more at the Hilton down the road.
I give the 4-star Dahabeya an A+, knowing that they lack a few luxury topics, but simply for the quality of the services provided and the staff. Keep in mind that a resort, how luxury it is, runs on people.. and at the Dahabeya, these people deserve my best compliments.

We travel to the Iberotel staying from the 13th to the 20th of July paying just £530 for the week with Thompson’s. Rooms: The rooms in this hotel were spotless and very modern. The rooms had a fresh feel to them with the sheets and all towels being changed every day. The room attendant left us different towel ‘art’ almost every day and the room was faultless. There is a basic old style colour TV with 2 English speaking channels, a movie channel and BBC news. Hotel in general: The rest of the hotel was kept to the same high standards as our rooms with regards to cleanliness. There is one pool which we never felt was over crowed. There was no problem in getting sun beds on the beach or around the pool. There were three different places you could get drinks from in the day. The main bar up by the reception of the hotel. The pool bar and the beach bar. As a beer drinker I can not fault the beer which they served on tap which is probably the best beer I have ever had on an all inclusive. You get a towel card which enables you to get fresh beach towels every day. The Beach: The beach was good for easy access into the water compared to previous visits to sharm where you had to enter the beach via a floating walkway which took you over the coral reef into the sea where you were unable to stand up. The downside to that for keen snorkerlers was that the snorkerling was very poor. The sea is also sectioned off to allow for windsurfers so you have a limited area to swim in where there in no decent snorkeling what so ever. However if you are looking for snorkeling there are trips run three times per day from the beach to a very nice reef. The only downside to this is you have to pay 5 euros for the privilege. Food: This is where the hotel lets itself down and why I have not scored it 5/5. The food is quite poor. Breakfast is the best meal of the day. There is the usual sausage and bacon but it is vile. But then you have a nice selection of scramble eggs, fried eggs, omelets, toast with different jams and a massive selection of pastries. Plenty to fill up on really. Lunch and dinner is where it gets really poor. The selections are mostly different stringy looking meats in watery moody looking sauces. Salads, pasta and bread rolls. The pasta is OK but gets a bit tedious after eating it every day for lunch and dinner. The bread rolls are a life save and probably what most people end up filling up on. But with regards to the rest of the food I sat back one evening and observed a queue of people look under about 6 trays of food, lifting the lid, looking what was underneath, replacing it and moving on to the next tray, only to find themselves at the end of the food area with nothing on their plate and stocking up on bread rolls. After you had ate your bread rolls to be fair there was a decent selection of puddings. Ive been Egypt before and expected the food to be poor. I know a lot of people who have visited difference places in Egypt and the common consensus is that you just don’t get good food in Egyptian hotels. But what really let it down was the fact I had sickness and diarrhea over a 24 hour period. I can accept poor food but if Im ill that’s poor hygiene for which there is no excuse. And this is the only reason why I have marked this hotel down. Otherwise this hotel was fantastic and even given the food circumstances I would recommend it to a friend and would definitely go back. If your well into your food this probably isnt the best place to stay but if you just see food as a way to fuel your body for the time your away you’ll have an amazing time.

5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 29, 2009

We stayed at the Iberotel Dahab for 2 weeks in June 2009. The location is about one hour from Sharm airport and an 8 minute ride into the town (the courtesey minibus goes three times per day and a cab is only a maximum of £2)
The food was excellent. Lots of choice, a pasta station every evening with fresh dishes of your choice cooked to order. Breakfast had everything for everyone with an egg station for freshly cooked dishes as requested.
Our room was spotlessly clean. When we arrived we had been put in a twin room when I had booked a double room-I had emailed ahead to ensure we had a double room but this was not the case when we arrived. I spoke to reception and although the hotel was full they moved us the next day.
The drinks were very good, gin was drinkable, unlike other Egyptian hotels, the beer was good and there was never a shortage of places to be served. The waiting and bar staff are excellent and the whole staff team could not do enough to help out in any situation. The customer service was second to none.
The pool area was lovely and quiet and the beach was the best beach I have been to in Egypt as it had soft sand rather than shale. If you go into the town itself the beach is not very pleasant so this was a real asset.
Dahab itself is quite dirty with lots of rubbish everywhere however if you walk along the seafront area there are lots of really nice and reasonably priced restaurants.
Dahab is much quieter than Sharm or Hurghada and really suited what we wanted-a chilled out holiday, food and drink on tap and low key entertainment. If you want night life and an Ibiza feel then don't go to Dahab. If you want beautiful scenery, excellent hotel facilities, great service and good value for money then do go to the Iberotel Dahabeya.
We used Mirage Divers to do our Padi advanced course-see seperate review- and they were superb.
When I needed to get some tablets from the pharmacy the staff on reception at the hotel told me to show them what I had bought so they could check I had not been 'ripped off'. Turned out that I had, they rang the pharmacist and told him he had to give me my money back, which he did, they then dispatched a driver into town, got the same medication at an Egyptian price and delivered it to me by the pool!
I could not fault this hotel, I would definitely use it again and would highly recommend it to anyone.

Was stunned by the scenery on the drive from the airport - mountains very dramatic not what I expected. The hotel was very good - always kept very clean and the room was excellent and everything changed daily and lovely touches like making the bed a different way each day with a decoration sometimes. Food was on the whole good typical continental style but lots of choice and some specials most nights. Also had themed dining but was little expensive. Entertainment on the whole was good if not that exciting but the location made up for it. Beautiful setting and beautiful hotel. Staff were very attentive, polite and funny on occasion. Would definitely recommend this hotel and the location. We went snorkelling at blue hole and three pools and i was the best we have ever seen. Watch out for the cost of eating at these locations as can be expensive even though it appears basic. Really couldnt not fault the holiday and would definitely go again but maybe earlier in the year as it was very hot and did not cool down in the evenings.

Enjoyed our recent stay at the iberotel. It is situated on a nice stretch of beach, rooms are very clean and the staff very helpful and accommodating. Communal areas all very well looked after and the food, althought slightly repetitive after 1 week was nice and no concerns about hygiene.

We were here mainly for windsurfing for my partner, and for that the iberotel was a fantastic choice, looked much nicer than neighbouring hotels. However, all there s nearby is other all inclusive hotels so not an exciting resort, you are mainyl contained to your hotel.

Fantastic hotel - our second holiday there. Lovely staff, great pool, beach, rooms, snorkling. Food is repetitive and it's a shame the fish isn't better given the location
but a great place for a family holiday and would go there again. HOWEVER. We booked
through Hotels4u and they use a company called Midland Travel if you book transfers -
(it is a one and a half hour journey across the desert from Sharm el Sheik to Dahab.)
On the way out we arrived at 1am to find no transfer because despite emailing us a
confirmation they had got the day wrong. We had to wait around for about half an hour
before they found someone to drive us. Bad enough - but after confirming on the way
back that they would collect us at 11am for a 1.30pm flight they forgot again and didn't
turn up until after midday so that we had a very fast, dangerous, stressful journey and
made the flight with only 10 minutes to spare. The hotel said Midland Travel do this a
lot so my advice would be book transfers through the hotel and do not touch Midland Travel with a barge pole.

we have just come back from a two week holiday at the iberotel dahabeya, first things first lets get the not so good point out of the way... the food! the food was after the first week repetative and you ended up with mostly tyhe same dishes as the week before. if you like chicken, beef, patsa and rice your fine. thats all we can say thats slighty lets the hotel down.

the hotel its self is very beautiful and the grounds are perfectly kept! there is a large swimming pool which has a swim up bar, also a smaller pool for the younger children which i think is a good idea. the staff are fantastic and will do anything you ask and always with a smile. tipping is a big thing in egypt so make sure you get alot of smaller notes if possible.

the rooms are big with a large shower and wardrobes for your clothes, the cleaners are very good making various animals out of towels etc ready for you when you return back to your room. dahab is about 98km from the airport so it takes about an hour to get to it. the route is through the mountains so the scenery is very spectacular.

the animation team who are there to entertain you are very nice and really do a very good job providing live shows and competions which sometimes seem on no real budget from the hotel. we played volleyball most days and went on various trips with the boat company on the beach (baby fish boats) please do the glass bottom boat as it truely is amazing seeing what is out there around the coral.

let me finish this off, the hotel is very clean and beautifuly maintain. the staff can not do enough for you (bringing you drinks to your table etc etc) the entertainment is a very good standard and the hotel just has a relaxing atmosphere. masbat town is 5min away for all your shopping and outside restaurants (a three course meal for four of us at ali baba cost 24 english pounds!!! ) so really apart from the food which is slighty disappointing we are planning to go back next year. so make your own mind up and i will promise you disappointed you wont be!!
