“Great food and service”

Our favourite of the places we ate. We went there a couple of times and the food and service were absolutely spot on. The Red Snapper I had was fantastic.

“Great ambience”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 14, 2014

We only had afernoon tea here, but really enjoyed the friendliness and general ambience. There is a Bedouin fire at night and, with all the lanterns, this must be really pleasant. We didn't manage an evening visit, as time didn't allow.

“Fabulous setting and gorgeous food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 10, 2014

A friend and I had a lovely meal recently at Ali Baba’s in Dahab. More of an experience than a meal really! The restaurant which is on the seafront on the main street in Dahab is decorated with hangings, plants, comfy sofas, twinkly fairy lights, cushions and a multitude of rugs etc giving it a real Arabian Nights feel. Very exotic and laid back at the same time.
We chose a seat right on the sea front and this afforded us a view of lion fish chasing down schools of small fish which in addition to the sea views and interior settings was fabulous to watch whilst we dined.
The menu offers quite a varied selection and specialises in seafood which looked fabulous. Having eaten seafood the night we went for a different choice for this dinner.
Having been prewarned about the size of the meals, we did not order starters apart from a little cheesy garlic bread which my friend ordered when my back was turned – it was scummy!
Before the food arrives you are offered a squeeze of hand sanitizer and this is regularly offered throughout the meal which we thought was good.
A complimentary starter of fresh warm Arabic bread with 5 or 6 dips was first up and was delicious. We followed this with a huge steak for my friend and an Egyptian mixed grill for me. The mixed grill consisted of koftas, kebabs and lamp chops (which huge and were more like ribs) and roasted vegetables. Everything was served with chips, salad and another couple of dips. The steak and the mixed grill were enormous!
For dessert, my friend had Ice Cream and I had Um Ali – a kind of bread and butter pudding Egyptian style, this was made very traditionally and was lovely.
After the meal, our waiter brought along a large copper basin and a huge copper jug with a spout. He proceeded to wash our hands with lemons and warm water from the jug. We loved this; it was just sooooo Arabian Nights! We have eaten out many times in Egypt but not come across this before and thought it perfect for the style of the restaurant.
We drank soft drinks as this restaurant like most in Dahab does not offer alcohol although there is an off licence/supermarket close by where you can buy your own and bring it with you. Altogether the meal cost £33 for both of us which is probably the most expensive restaurant in Dahab but the food was gorgeous and the service was excellent.
This is a great restaurant for any time of the day or night. The staff are fabulous, give it a try!
Health and Hygiene are very important to this restaurant and the Chinese one next door which they also own. We felt very secure eating here.

“Good food in pleasant surroundings”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 24, 2014

We stopped at this restaurant on our way from the Sinai Desert after visiting St Katherine's Monastery as part of an arranged excursion by Cosmos. We were greeted by friendly staff and shown to our table overlooking the sea in the shady restaurant. We were served hit flatbread and dips before our main course. The meal was included in the tour price but drinks were extra. We were also asked if we wanted chips with our chicken, fish or kofta. We all agreed to have the chips at extra cost before we were served with our meals which actually came served with rice which would have been adequate.

After our meal we had time to look around the shops but they were nothing special and we soon returned to our bus.
