“Decent budget location”
Reviewed January 24, 2013

This is a decent place to stay for people on a budget in Dahab. It’s not a fancy 5 star hotel, and is pretty much just a step or two up from a hostel, but as long as you set your expectations accordingly and don’t pay over the odds to stay, you’ll have a good stay. I must say we were a bit shocked when we arrived – we pulled up in a taxi at the rear of the hotel in a street filled with rubbish and broken/incomplete infrastructure, but most of the back streets of Dahab are like that and the inside and front of the hotel were fine. It’s shabby rather than polished, but it grows on you!

Location: It’s very centrally located right in the middle of the sea front area and it’s especially handy for diving as the hotel has a very good diving school attached and you basically walk 30 feet across the promenade and you’re in the water.

Facilities: The hotel offers very cheap dorms, but I stayed in a dedicated triple room. Or at least it started off as a triple room, after a few days they squeezed in another bed, I don’t know why. My room was on the ground floor with access straight to the pool, which would have been great if the pool hadn’t been at a sub zero temperatures. It was far too cold to use during the visit, the sea was much warmer and I was in and out of that all week. Shame as it looked a nice pool, but I believe it’s not uncommon for pools in Egypt to be unheated, which is fine in summer but makes them useless in winter. The rooms had little balconies you could sit out on at night, which was a nice touch.

The wi fi in the hotel was decent in the reception and bar, but quite flaky and unreliable in the rooms. The hotel claimed to have a gym and steam room, but these are not actually in the hotel. You have to go round the back of the hotel and up the street into a completely separate gym. The gym was quite small and the steam room is a tiny 1 or 2 person thing that is off the changing rooms, so it’s not mixed sex.

Cleanliness: This wasn’t the best. The bathroom had definitely not been cleaned on our arrival. The shower wouldn’t drain at all until I pulled out a huge pile of hair clogging it up. Yuck. And talking of a shower, there wasn’t one. There was a very small, quite dirty bath, with no shower curtain and a shower head attached to the bath. So showering basically involved getting the bathroom quite wet. Towels were changed daily, but always seemed ragged or marked or both.

Food/Drink: Breakfast was the same each day, and they sometimes ran low on items later in the morning, but there was a few choices and the staff would make omelettes and delicious pancakes on request. I enjoyed the breakfasts generally, but had a bit of a horror moment when I fished out a larvae from my fried aubergine that had been unfortunate enough to be in the aubergine when it was fried. It can happen in the best of places I guess, but did put me off a bit, it must be said! We only ate one other meal in the hotel apart from Breakfast, which was a cheese toastie. This was completely rubbish with stale bread and hardly any cheese. Food in Dahab is generally good, so I wouldn’t recommend eating here.

The Churchill Bar in the Hotel is really cool. Drink is cheap and the staff are friendly. They do the odd special night such as quizzes. I enjoyed having out and people watching from the rooftop part of the bar. I’d highly recommend this as a cool hang out place.

Staff: Friendly and courteous, especially in the bar.

In conclusion, this is a decent hostel hotel. It doesn’t offer the 5 star quality of a top resort hotel, but it does offer you a prime, beach front location at a bargain price. It has quirks and imperfections galore, but nothing critically wrong and for what it offers I’d stay there again.

Stayed for 8 nights with friends and the rooms were great with views of the red sea from our first floor balcony and friendly staff. There is a great bar that looks over the sea where you can relax after diving. The pillows are bit hit or miss so is about all I can fault them about. Highly recommended and great value too.

My partner and myself have been at the Red Sea Relax in April and again last week as we just had to return although we usually never go somewhere twice as there is too much to see in the world. We just found ourselves falling in love with Dahab as well as the Red sea Relax hotel and dive center. Return after 8 months we felt as if we had never left due to the warm welcome of the hotel and dive center staff and owners. Whether we needed more towels in the room or had special wishes at breakfast- everything was taken care of immediately with a friendly smile. The room was clean and tidy not only on the first but every day we have been there! Diving in Dahab is anyway spectacular, but the guys from the dive center made it extra special. We did a lot of diving that was new to us and the guides always kept us safe and showed us the most spectacular things! The group sizes were really small and so the dives were arranged very individually to our level of diving knowledge and confidence. All we can really say is a very big Thank you to all at Red sea relax, which made our week a wonderful experience!!!!!

My husband and I stayed here for a week and It met all our requirements. We had a spacious room with plenty of hot water, a good fridge, kettle and an in room safe.
Sure some of the linen/towels were a bit worn but it was all very clean and for what we paid I think we got exceptional value.
We spent our 1st two nights upstairs in a room with king size bed (which was absolutely fine although the shower was rather poor) we were then invited (without asking) to move down to a ground floor room which definately better (2 single beds pushed together with a proper super king sized mattress across them) The beds in both rooms were comfortable (which is praise indeed as I am used to a Tempur mattress at home) The ground floor room was bigger, with a larger bathroom(with good shower) plus it had 2 armchairs.
The staff were very friendly, nothing was to much trouble. Breakfast was fine - cheese and fresh fruit plus egg/omelete cooked to order. Free tea, coffee and water was available in reception 24 hrs a day.
The hotels Churchill bar, clearly a gathering place for ex pats as well as holiday makers, was reasonably priced with good 'pub' food and the roof top bar has lovely views over the sea front.
Free wi fi was good.
There is an excellent dive center, attached to the hotel, which I used and can highly recommend.
On a couple of nights it got very noisy for about half an hour around midnight - but this is to be expected in a resort with a predominantly younger adult clientele group (divers!)
The hotel sorted out airport transfers for us at a very reasonable cost.
If i'm lucky enough to return to Dahab I will be staying here again.

My husband and myself stayed at Red Sea Relax for 10 days last summer (2012). We had a great time there. If you want 5-star luxury, go somewhere else that's probably much less friendly and personal..... because this is a great, little unpretentious hotel that ticks every box any reasonable person could want. It is clean. It is cheap. It is quiet (this despite the bar next door - there was no problem with noise - and I am a light sleeper). Above all, it is warm and friendly. The staff are so very helpful. We wanted to change rooms. No problem. We wanted this. No problem. We wanted that. No problem. They really tried (and succeeded) to make our holiday the best it could be.
In this connection, a very special mention should be made about SAID, who works at Reception and is just brilliant at his job. He sorted everything out for us in such a friendly and empathetic way - and went well beyond the call of duty to do so. An example of how friendly this place is....when we left Dahab, we left our 20-year-old son behind as he was doing a Dive Instructor course. He was never even staying at the hotel (just my husband and myself), yet SAID told him he could come back anytime he liked, use the internet etc. And he assured me that if he had any problems, our son could come to him and he would help him sort them out. That's the kind of place it is. The location is also great - just on the edge of town, on the beach(virtually) - and with a fantastic Dive School attached. We couldn't have wanted anything more - and we will certainly be back. Sheila Fox

Room Tip: We liked the lower level better, as it's nearer the pool. Also, the lay-out of at least one of...

Dear Sheila,

Thank you so much for your review and the time it to write it. As you mention our staff, especially reception are very dedicated in their jobs. It really means a lot when this is appreciated- Said has been with us 8 years- from a non English speaking security guard to a fluent deputy manager! He and the other reception staff regard the job more as a vocation than work and once again- it really is a delight when this is recognised.

We are so glad you enjoyed the stay, very best regards from us all at Red Sea Relax and we very much hope we have the pleasure of hosting you again for a stay sometime in the future.

My friends and I stayed at the Red Sea during our trip to Dahab during December 2012. We found the hotel to be very clean, the staff to be very friendly and the location to be excellent.

Clean rooms and bathrooms - which are cleaned on a daily basis. The furnishing is of decent quality and extra blankets etc may be requested at the reception. The hotel is conveniently located on the beach front and is within a stone's throw from diving centres, cafes, restaurants and gift shops.

As our stay was out of season, we were able to haggle an excellent price - paying £20/night for double rooms. I am aware that the hotel also has dorms, which are even cheaper. Nonetheless, £20/night for this place was a bargain.

The hotel staff speak English and are more than happy to help in booking taxis, arranging activities etc.

All in all, a very good hotel and definitely recommend this to others!

The accommodations have a reasonable price, the rooms are good and clean.
It is not a five star hotel but is a good alternative for people on a budget.
You can choose from single rooms doubles and dorm rooms.

You are not far away from the windsurf centers (5 min by car).
You are in the middle of dahab, so everything is quite close to you. Within walking distanse you have three different dive sites (the closest is about 25 m away).
They have TV, a reasonably priced bar, and nice staff.
