Had a great trip to a lovely beach resort on the west coast of the Sinai penninsular, Egypt last year. The local town is called Ras Sudr, the resort is Paradise bay, just outside the town, and we stayed in a fab, luxury apartment. The resort itself is quite quiet, most of the apartments in theh resort are owned, I believe by ex-pats who live in Cairo, hence at any one time there are never too many people there. There are lovely landscaped gardens with a couple of enormous swimming pools. The beach is beautiful and was about 2 minutes' walk from the apartment that we stayed in. There is also an option of staying in the Paradise hotel if you prefer, which is about 10 mins' walk from the beach. On the beach there is a kitesurf/windsurf school, you can also hire kayaks, play volleyball or tennis.
The bay itself is enormous and shallow with a cross-shore drift, so it is th eperfect place to learn to kite/wind surf. Also with the strong winds they get there howlnig up the Red Sea it is excellent for pros too. There is a safety boat in the bay and excellent, fully accredited tuition. I loved the windsurfing, and had several days of kitesurf lessons too, having wanted to learn for years but never having plucked up teh courage before. This just seemed to be THE perfect place to learn.
The apartments were managed by the kitesurf school (think they are called CNS Fun Kite Egypt...) and were great. 2 double bedrooms, large living room/dining/kitchen, with balcony and enormous roof terrace, both with gorgeous sea/mountain views. Loved it. Highly recommended.
Easy to get to - 2 hours cheap taxi from Cairo, arranged by the kite school. Go, before everyone else finds out about it and it gets spoiled...
