“nice people, good food, excellent value- worth checking out”
Reviewed August 9, 2012

Went to the Avalon Family Grille with our 4 kids just before closing time. When that's happened at other places, we've sometimes been looked at as if we were bringing the plague. The staff here welcomed us in and couldn't have been nicer. Everyone was pleased with their meals. Kids loved the french onion soup, and the chicken quesadillas were unusually good (everyone stole bites from my son.) Fortunately, the portions were very big, so there was plenty to go around. My oldest daughter enjoyed her salad, though felt there was a little too much cheese. My wife, who is very picky about her crab cakes (grew up in Maryland and hasn't recovered), really liked AFG's rendition. My flounder was fresh and fine, and my other daughter's roast turkey performed as promised. They served us warm bread which was also a hit.
Between the very reasonable prices, the good tasting food, and the exceptional service, it's a great choice for casual family dining in Avalon. One more note- they are under new ownership, so I wouldn't pay much attention to reviews from 2011 and before.

“The Best Breakfast in Avalon”
Reviewed February 20, 2012

We have had the pleasure of having weekend breakfasts at Maggies for a few years now and never thought of writing a review. Well it's time. If your travels bring you to Avalon NJ and its morning and you want the best breakfast - it's simple just go to Maggies everything fresh, cooked to order, and by far the best omlets

“I'd go somewhere else”
Reviewed June 20, 2011

Went to Maggie's over the weekend and was disappointed. Sometimes I don't always believe the reviewers are impartial. The pros are that it is in town and it has a nice deck on the main drag. That's where you should stop. The inside was extremely dated, like walking back into another era...We stood for a while...saw the "no whining" sign and the T-shirts saying same worn by the staff. What's up with that? Waitress was a nice college kid, but no training...held the plates and waited for us to take them from her. Put the drinks on the wrong side. Not expecting much from a shore place, but a little bit more than nothing in terms of training. Ordered an appetizer, which was pretty good. But, the main food was really disappointing and expensive. cheesetake had a strange color to it, burger was overcooked and not cooked as ordered, tuna sandwich was small and swallowed almost whole by a hungry kid. Appetizer, three basic sandwiches and two sodas came to over $40...and the quality wasn't there for the dollars paid. Next time, we'll go somewhere else.

“Horrible”
Reviewed April 21, 2011

I had breakfast for lunch today at Maggie's in Avalon - and came to regret it. The scrambled eggs, to be fair, were fine. The bacon was completely dry and incredibly overcooked - so much so that it crumbled as soon as you touched it. The "home fries" were not identifiable upon sight because they were dark brown bordering on black. They, too, were grossly overcooked and had not a bit of flavor. Nearly half of them had been cut so small that there was no discernible potato on the inside. The toast, which I didn't plan to eat anyway, also was burnt. Service was fine, and a woman whom I suspect was Maggie strolled leisurely around the restaurant, seemingly oblivious to the crap that her kitchen puts on the table. Never again.
