Description: We are a Finnish-Ecuadorian couple who decided to move to the shores of the Pacific Ocean. Kotona means at home in Finnish, and we hope to offer the same experience to the greater public that our friends have grown used to. It means we want to offer an evening of good food in great company, conversations over wine and relaxing atmosphere.

This buy far was the best food, best service and prettiest restaurant we went to on our stay in Ecuador. I can not saw enough about the food, service and the outdoor patio.

“What a find in Manta!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 7, 2013

Manta was just a one night stopover for us and overall Manta is a pretty basic port city with not much else to recommend it. We were out wandering around the area near our Hostal trying to find a place to do laundry, after which all we wanted was a beer. Unfortunately nothing was open until we ambled by the Kotona Bistro which was the only place open on a Saturday afternoon. We could not have been more lucky. This is an absolutely lovely place and the owners could not have been more accommodating and gracious. We stopped first for a beer and a delicious appetizer, cheese and sausage plate (sprinkled with great balsamic vinegar) and it was really a cut above. We decided to return for dinner because the place was so fun. Beautiful inside with a huge outdoor patio, our dinner was amazing. I preferred my risotto with only one kind of fish...done! My husband had the grilled lamb that was done to perfection and what a twist...served with tzatizki and hummus and so beautifully presented. The salads were beautiful and the most unique (eggplant and bits of avocado) of our travels here. Did we need the tiramisu? No but when we couldn't resist it was served to perfection in a chilled glass. The wine list was varied and excellent, with selections from Chile and Argentina. Do not miss this place and visit easily in Spanish, English or Finnish with the cheery and accommodating owners, Patricio and Jaana. This was truly a find.
