“A little piece of paradise”
Reviewed December 21, 2012

This hotel is nicely located in the middle of the village of Puerto Ayora, on the beach, with a private small pool. We used it as a great place to relax after an intensive cruise packed with activities, and enjoyed every minute!

The pool is very nice and it's kind of sureal to swim in it with the Iguana's surrounding you and looking at you while you swim. They also have a nice Jacuzzi and some hammocks, so you can easily spend the day without leaving the hotel and just enjoying life and sipping drinks from the friendly bar.

While you're there, don't miss a short hike (about 1 hour) to Tortuga bay. You get to swim with sea turtles and manta rays. Pretty cool! We also enjoyed the short trip with a water taxi to Finch bay.

The staff is friendly, the food is good and breakfast is included. The bar man will happily make you milkshakes even though they're not on the menu. Overall - highly recommended!

We had a lovely clean room, simple but nice, hot water, purified water for drinking, and stunning ocean views.

Breakfasts were amazing. We also enjoyed the shrimp burgers, coconut crusted shrimp, ceviche, and cocktails!

My friend booked this place and I am not sure I would have. I am glad he did - we had a great time and every day in front of the hotel we saw sea lions, blue footed boobies, iguanas, herons, pelicans, crabs, frigates, etc. Simply amazing.

The staff were so kind and so helpful (David, Jonathan, Jorge, Eduardo, Byron and so many more).

We were excited to visit Solymar after seeing some of the pictures and reading the reviews on trip advisor, but I have to say that Solymar was a little disappointing. First, the accommodations are very basic, there was really nothing worthy of note in the entire hotel. The rooms were small, and contiained nothing more than a bed, the smallest desk I've ever seen and one small, poor quality wardrobe. The balcony overlooking the bay was a nice place to relax, but it also pointed out the worst feature of the hotel: the lack of cleanliness in the common areas. The hotel has put up a net to block the sea lions from entering the pool area (despite the pictures on their site showing them in the pool area), but between the birds and iguanas, quite a mess is left around the pool and the bar/restaurant. The hotel does seem to spray down the area with a hose periodically, but that really didn't clean up much of the mess. I will say that the wait staff and bartenders were all very friendly and helpful. But the lack of cleanliness in the common areas was quite disappointing. I probably would not stay here again if we visited Puerto Ayora again; if you want a room with a view, there are 2 better options (though probably more expensive), but if you can live without it, there are cheaper options that are probably just as nice.

I traveled to Galapagos a year ago. We had a hard time finding a hotel. It was not easy getting through on the phone and making the reservation. I liked the location of the Hotel. It had a nice ocean view from the Patio. The hotel was very clean. The food in the Hotel was good, but I would recommend to eat at the restaurants on the main block. The food in all of them was very good. The sea lion in the swimming pool were very nice to see! I would stay here again if I ever go back to The Galapagos Islands.

I booked this hotel the first Weekend in October as the hotel we were staying for the week was sold out for Sunday night. There was a major construction project going on the street across from the hotel. We needed a hotel for the night just to sleep. Since I was already disappointed on the mess around the hotel we decided to sight see on our last night and check-in late. Well, lets just say all we needed was to get some sleep and were not be able to get an hour of sleep. We could not figure out where all these noises were coming from. Construction started very early in the morning too with the drill hammer going full blast. Sorry but no positives from us for this place. No apologies from the hotel. Very expensive night for what we got.

We stayed here a couple of nights during our trip in the Galapagos Islands. Nice spacious rooms, good location, safe, great ocean view, and ok breakfast:) Also had some SPA treatments there which were very relaxing! Could definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Ask for an ocean view by the water

We travelled in April 2011 and it was AMAZING! Sea Lions poolside if they so decided to come up and visit, black lizards would be basking in the sun at breakfast - it was surreal! We were a group or 7 travelling - 3 adults, 2 teenagers and 2 children (youngest was 5) and it was a beautiful adventure straight from a National Geographic special. You will not be disappointed. The breakfast, lunch and dinner was not anything well noted but there were enough staple options and the scenery more than made up for the lack of culinary skill. The rooms were VERY clean and the staff was very helpful and more than courteous if any questions did arise. Overall a great stay!
