My wife and I decided upon a land-based tour of the Galapagos for our honeymoon in May, and we organized our trip through Red Mangrove. We booked the 5d/4n Darwin's Triangle program. Everything about the experience was first-class. The Aventura Lodge is a beautiful, unique hotel, we had great service, and everything was very well-coordinated for our trip. We were pleasantly surprised with how smoothly everything went.

Organizing the trip was easy, and Daniela did a great job answering our questions when we were making reservations. We were met at the airport by Red Mangrove representatives and were helped by friendly employees the entire trip. Fernanda (our naturalist guide) and Jimmy (hotel escort) were both fantastic. Andrea at the Aventura Lodge helped us change our plans in the middle of the trip. We added an extra day to the program so we could go horseback riding on the Sierra Negra volcano. The staff helped to figure out the logistics (boat transport changes, etc.), and even found us a room at a neighboring hotel to accommodate our change in plans. It was totally worth it, and I recommend that anyone considering an organized program with Red Mangrove take the 6 day triangle, without question, because the Sierra Negra trip was our favorite activity.

As for the Aventura Lodge specifically, it's a really cool building with a very artsy, organic feel. There's a good sushi restaurant right downstairs, and the hotel location is very convenient. It is right next to the Darwin Research Station, and you can walk or bike down Charles Darwin Ave. into "downtown" Puerto Ayora. There are free bikes to use at the hotel, which we were happy to take advantage of (it's very hot to walk in the middle of the day), but we found the tires to be underinflated and the locks were rusted and difficult to use. There is food and shopping all along the main road, and we felt very safe the whole time.

We stayed in the Suite Mayor on the first night, and it was incredible! I'd recommend requesting this particular room if you want the best view. We were served a special "honeymoon" dinner in our suite and we felt it was worth the extra money for the honeymoon add-on (special dinner, breakfast, champagne, etc.). At the end of the program, we stayed in the Azul Suite. This room was also really nice and it has a big porch with a spiral staircase down the restaraunt. The Mayor and Azul suites each had a unique feel to them, were clean, had great beds, and we were very happy with both.

There are a good amount of mosquitoes out at night, though. My wife is very sensitive to mosquitoes, but we didn't really hang outside much after dark so it wasn’t a problem. The organized program is so packed with activities, that we were too tired to do anything other than crash in our rooms after dinner. The Darwin’s Triangle programs are very active (you are pretty much hiking, swimming, or riding a boat all day), and probably not for little kids or the elderly. It’s not the kind of trip where you bum around and relax a lot, but that’s not what we were looking for. It's a good idea to book an extra night after the program to relax if you want to spend some time shopping, dinning, and exploring Puerto Ayora at your own pace

Overall, I can’t recommend Red Mangrove highly enough. We will be staying there again if we ever can make it back.

We stayed at the Red Mangrove for two nights following a four night cruise. While the view is beautiful the hotel does not provide the amenities it should for the high price of the rooms. The hot tub was not working during our stay and there is no pool. Service in the restaurant for breakfast and lunch was so poor that we never tried it for dinner. There were several employees in the restaurant always cleaning but never paying attention to guests. There was also a leak in the ceiling of out bathroom which remained unresolved throughout our stay. I looked at the Hotel Sol y Mar while I was walking through town and it offered a lot more for about $100 less per night.

We had an amazing time on our Red Mangrove adventure. But what made it stand out was the staff - Veronica was an excellent hotel host and made sure all of our needs were met (and then some). Duncan was an awesome guide - really knowledgeable, fun and willing to go the extra kilometer to help you have a good experience. The rest of the staff were also great and friendly, and we especially enjoyed the Red Mangrove property and Isabela Island location - steps to a gorgeous beach! Red Mangrove knows how to balance Galapagos Island adventure with relaxing holiday.

We have had the best diving experience, we were deciding between a live aboard and the “Dive triangle” with the Red Mangrove. A great decision!!!

Diving was excellent, we saw everythhing we wanted to see:White tipped sharks, hammer heads, galapagos sharks, giant rays, mantas, sea horses, pinguins, etc, etc, etc...

The diving, the crew, the guides and accommodation were great, and overall it exceeded our expectation.

It was one of the best trips in our life.

My husband and I just returned from the "Darwin Triangle" trip where we experienced all three Red Mangrove accomodations. We planned to stay two extra nights in Puerto Ayora, but had such an enjoyable time, we decided to stay another extra night at the Red Mangrove instead of our planned two nights on the mainland. The staff changed our flights, cancelled our reservation in Guayaquil, and rearranged some things for us to be able to remain in our lovely oceanfront room overlooking the harbour. This took time and effort. The room in Puerto Ayora was perfect: large size, nice bathroom, beautiful decor, and very clean. Being from Florida, we understand that bugs can be inevitable in the tropics. However, we did not see a single bug in our room the entire time we stayed. I was surprised when I read the last person's comment about bugs. Breakfast was great. My husband custom ordered his scrambled eggs with various condiments each day. Cereal, fresh fruit, various juices, breakfast meats, yogurt, pancakes, eggs...what more could you want???

I highly recommend the triangle tour. Our guide, Miguel, was very knowledgable about plants, animals, and history of the island. We did the tour backwards because of a scheduling conflict on our end. We started on Isabella with our beautiful oceanfront room. Gabriella, our hostess, was precious. Within an hour or two from checking in, we were boating, hiking, snorkling, and taking hundreds of pictures of wildlife. Though the days are busy, there is plenty of time for reading, relaxing, enjoying a drink or two, and sleeping. Our horseback ride to the volcano with a long hike (our choice) to another crater was a highlight.

Floreanna was a two hour fairly rough boat ride from Isabella. The accommodations there were fairly primitive compared to the other two. Nonetheless, we had a comfortable bed, clean bathroom, hot water, a hair dryer, and the fan was ample enough to keep us comfortable at night. There was nothing to obstruct the stars, and I never realized there were so many. We couldn't hear a sound at night. The snorkling was great and we felt right at home with the sea lions, white tipped sharks, and sea turtles. Make sure to bring an underwater camera!

During our extra days back in Santa Cruz, the staff scheduled a trip to North Seymor Island where we saw thousands of nesting Blue Footed Boobies and Frigate Birds. Other days we shopped, walked to beaches, snorkled, ate lobster, ceviche, and had the time of our lives.

I could write a book about all of the pleasantries of the trip, but just let me say without hesitation, that I highly recommend Red Mangrove! Thanks Leslie, Gabriella, Victoria, Janette, Miguel, Kelly, and so many others!

nice location but more minuses than pluses at the Red Mangrove
unhelpful and unsmiling staff, room was full of insects because of the swamp that envelopes the inn, breakfast was small portions and average choice
one good thing - free bike hire
for the price you pay you should get better, much better
nest time i will go for a $40 hostel

I had a great time at Red Mangrove. I had the Azul Suite which was a beautiful room with great views! Service was excellent, diving was excellent and the sushi was excellent...all the better when sitting outside over the sea. It was great seeing the marine iguanas on the deck, the fish at night in the lit water under the deck and using the bikes to run around town. The Aventura Lodge is a beautiful place I highly recommend.
