That was amazing. Walking into the Research Station, we came across so many iguanas just relaxing, completely flopped on the pavement sunning themselves. At the research station, we saw the funny looking pink iguanas, so many baby tortoises and tortoises and more tortoises of all sizes. Wow. Just wow.

I spent hours there ... avoid the crawds which apparently can´t keep their mouths shot. Lots of tourists seem to rush through, tick their list, and continue to next (photo"stop.

We went here on our first day in the Galapagos, and it was a great start to the trip.

Everything here is self guided, so you will have the freedom to wander and explore at your own pace. There are trails, and you can go to the ocean and then go inland to the turtle breeding areas. There is not much to read, so there is not as much to learn from this Research station. I had somehow thought we would be rubbing elbows with scientists, however the closest you will get to that experience is with day trips to the various islands when you get tours from the park rangers.

It is worth visiting although I enjoyed the trip to the farm in the highlands more where the tortoises roam wild (where we found two mating).

This is a must-see on any galapagos trip. From baby Tortugas, to colourful land iguanas, to the final mistresses of Lonesome George.. a great few hours and a becalming escape from the hustle and bustle of Santa Cruz
