“Didn't understand all the hype”
Reviewed March 15, 2013

It's a neat little place to visit if you have time to kill in Puerto Ayora, but I didn't understand all the "must see" comments. There were tortoises - big and small - but it felt like it could have been a section in any old zoo, really. The exhibits weren't particularly informative or interesting. I found the tortoise center on Isabela to be much more worthwhile.

“Charles Darwin Research Station”

We were a little disappointed with this. We expected to see more turtles and actually research projects. You do see the smaller turtles in cages and the larger ones as well. Worth a visit but don't expect too much.

“Don't miss it”
Reviewed March 5, 2013

Just a short walk from downtown, near the Red Mangrove Adventura Lodge. Great outdoor exhibits and decking walkways throughout. Didn't visit the indoor facility, wonderful job in saving giant land tortoises.

“Just Okay....”
Reviewed March 3, 2013

If you have some time to kill, go see it, but it is not particularly good, opportunities for good photos are hard as the enclosures often have wire fences, and the displays are just okay. We spent only ten minutes there. If you really want to experience the giant tortoises, book a highlands tour to a farm where the tortoises roam free. Or if you go to Isabella Island, the Tortoise Breeding Center there is really good and WAY BETTER!

Bottome Line: Not much to see, a bit of a walk to get to from town, and not that great!

“nice”
Reviewed February 26, 2013

it was small but had a nice showing of animals and a great gift shop. We missed lonesome george but they have a plaque for him to show where he was. We went back a second time to visit the gift store again. You can go by yourself it is very close to town.
