“Excellent food with caveat”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 16, 2014

I tried the sesame-encrusted tuna from this restaurant, even knowing it was from the fish market next door. Despite the digestive problems I experienced over the subsequent three days, I would totally eat that dish again. It was that good. The margaritas aren't great here, though. I'd probably just get the tuna and a water instead...

“One of the Few Places to Camp in the Galapagos Islands”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 25, 2014

El Garrapatero was one of the few public beaches on the Island of Santa Cruz. It is over a kilometer long, covered in beautiful white sand, and is located about 19 km (12 mi) north east of Puerto Ayora. It can only be accessed by foot, but worth the walk.

The gravel trail that leads to the beach was easy, and did not have any major inclines. A Park ranger patrols the area daily from 7am to 6pm and was there to help visitors in the area. Camping is permitted at this beach with previous authorization from the “Unidad de Uso Publico”, which can be requested at the offices of the National Park in Puerto Ayora. Visitors cannot burn any wood from the area and must bring their own coal if they want to cook anything while at the beach.

Also, just a hundred meters from the beach one can find a small lagoon that is home to flamingos and ducks which was great to see in person!

“Nice beach... nothing special.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 12, 2014

To be completely honest, there´s so much beautiful places in Galapagos, so this one is... nice. A nice beach for a swim, a few pictures and relax. It´s free. You can take a taxi in Puerto Ayora (for US$ 30) and go there. I was expecting a better place. You can´t snorkel there (nothing to see, sandy water) and ou can´t get closer to the pond where the flamingos stay. I was lucky, there were 5 flamingos there, but I couldn´t get near them, they just stayed far from the chains around the pond... There´s a mangroove next to the beach, so here´s my advise: WATCH THE HORSEFLIES!! They will suck your blood as soon as you get out of the sea!! In the beach or in the mangroove.

“Beautiful beach”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 10, 2014

It's a bit of a hike along a paved pathway from the parking lot but well worth the effort. Had a delicious picnic while observing the flamingoes and went kayaking.
Be warned though there are some nasty biting horseflies so bring your repellant!
