“lovely place, cold water”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 28, 2014

The scenery was wonderful, a sliver of water walled in by lava walls. The water was crystal clear but cold. A wetsuit helped us enjoy the place. The fish is nothing special but the refreshing water and the lovely walk to the site was well worth the trip.

“hike with cool water at the end!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 19, 2014

The hike itself was beautiful-wear a hat and use sunscreen, carry water to drink-got some great pics of marine iguanas and marsh, lava rocks, and lovely swimming area on the way to Las Grietas. You have to climb down rocks to get to the cool water, but it is worth it if you have 2 good knees to climb down-it is easier to climb up the rocks than down!

“interesting but would have been nice to have more interpretation”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 17, 2014

This is a geologically interesting area but it was a bit crowded when we were there and our guide did not know much about the odd seemingly stagnant but interesting wetlands we walked through on the way to get to the swimming holes. he also could not explain why the first 'hole' was so different (greener in color, water not clear) from the one where everyone was swimming. the swimming was lovely and worth it. the hike is hot but not uncomfortable and the veg. and geology is interesting. there is a 'fee' in the sense that you pay for a guide to take you there or pay for the boat to get you to the dock there. its worth it though. very interesting and different.

“worth it”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 16, 2014

If you like jumping off rocks ledges, into cool waters, in a gorgeous setting, you must embark on this interesting little hike to get to Las Grietas. Jumping off rocks not required…the swimming is wonderful and the rock walls provide sun shade from the sun. Our 11 year old son had a wonderful time, as did all of us. There is a little snack shack on route to Las Grietas for refreshments if desired. Fun taking the water taxi to the walking trail.

“Hot, Ugly Walk”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 12, 2014

A very, long walk over countless lava rocks to arrive at a little, hidden grotto. Several were there jumping into and swimming in the water. My leg muscles were quite sore after the walk, and I consider myself to be in decent shape. Great exercise. Not sure the distance is worth the reward, but along the way, there is a little beach that is pretty and offers relative privacy if you’re looking for that.
