“Not bad!”
Review of Renato's

Renato's
Ranked #17 of 53 Restaurants in Puerto Ayora
Certificate of Excellence
Cuisines: Ecuadorean
Description: Renato's. They are located just off the corner of Av Baltra and Charles Binford. It's a street that comes alive at night with many little restaurants grilling various different types of food. Renato is actually the man at the grill and owner, a great fellow at that. This is definetly good food at a reasonable price. You can get a meal anywhere from $5.00 to a full lobster (when in season) for $25.00. Just visited there in mid October 2011. I believe the street is also referred to as the Kiosko. We also ate at some other restaurants in Puerto Ayora, but this one had a real adventurous and local feel.

If you have a few nights in Puerto Ayora, definitely have dinner on this street one night. (Note: The fish market in town has cheaper plates of fried fish for $5 or $7, but you can get grilled fish at Renato's--worth a try, but the yellow seasoning they put on the fish--maybe it's mustard or curry or something--isn't the greatest, but it's okay.) We enjoyed the Sol y Luna stall better on this street--They had this herb mayo to dunk your fish/shrimp in which was delicious!

This restaurant is in the middle of the streets between 5 or 6 others restaurants. It gives a very interesting atmosphere as you are surrounded by all all the grills.

You can see the fresh seafood (catch of the day) on the table and prices are between $8 to $25 (from simple fish to lobster). It comes with rice, salad and plantain.

We chose the seafood mix grill to share and it comes with a nice mustard sauce. However if you don't like it do not ask for a tiny side portion without it: there will still be some and they charge you extra even if you ask just a few shrimps...

Besides that the staff was very friendly.

We came across this place just by chance. This is a street fool stall that has tables on the street. There are quite a few other "kioscos" as they call them.

We choose Renato's because it looked clean and the menu showed some interesting options.

They have quite a variety of foods. Cooked and grill dishes of sea and land food.

We tried some of their sea grilled food and was very nice. But I think next time we will choose to go for the entire fish option, where you pick the fish (dead) that you want to have and they grill it for you on the spot. The options were Bacalao (Cod) or Guajo (don't know the English translation).

They also have ceviches of all types (fish, shrimps, etc). We had the fish one and it was pretty tasty.

The prices are fairly good. Not too expensive but if you are looking for cheap options they have them too. For instance, you can have a grilled lobster fro about $20 USD or a plate of rice with fish for about $6.

We'll definitely come back and have some more... also we'd love to try the other kioscos and compare!

Good food offered at value prices. You need to try their fruit salad with yogurt & ganola for breakfast.
