There are few places in the world that are beyond awe inspiring, this one of them. Should be on every traveler's bucket list.

Each island is different. Best way to experience the island is on a cruise. There are lots of cruise options for each budget, but the more knowledgeable guides are on the higher service/luxury boats. The higher you go luxury level, typically the more room/comfort, and better food.

To get the most from a trip to' try to spend a full week there. Nothing negative about the Galapagos-

We had a spectacular time. We went on a 7 night tour. I wouldn't go on anything shorter to see the variety of life on the different Islands. The Coral I has 36 passengers , the Coral II 20. They won't guarantee which boat you will go on. They usually travel together but the Coral II was in dry dock when we went. Being on this size boat gets you into places where the bigger boats aren't aloud. So only a total of 36 people split in 2 groups.
My upper deck cabin had 2 single beds, a bathroom, and opened to a walk way. I would recommend this size. The cheaper cabins are smaller and open on to a inside corridor. My Sister an husband who sail liked them. The food was good served buffet style. More than enough food 3 times a day. The best was the bar-b-que on the tip deck.
The staff was great especially Mosquito and Alex. One thing I liked is that an announcement would come over the speakers to give you time to get ready for the activities(getting up, eating, activities) We had two hikes a day( easy, stop a lot) but wear good shoes and walking sticks are available when need to walk over the lava fields. Also 1 -2 snorkels a day.
A typical day is get up 7 am eat breakfast, go for a hike come back, snorkel, eat lunch, siesta, hike, snacks , drink, dinner, Itinerary, bed. You can participate in as much or little as you want.
Everyday there was a new surprise. We saw Orcas, Minke whales, Galapagos sharks, penguins, blue footed boobies, & Iguanas to name only a few.
I traveled with my husband,27 yo sons,& sister & husband

16 person mid-range cruise. Very friendly crew. Rooms clean, though a little small. Good food (lots of choice, though a little light on the carb but plenty of veg and meat). Excellent knowledgable guide. Definitely recommend

We took the Celebrity cruise on the xpedition. Everyday was a different location and sometimes two location in a day.The ship was all inclusive and very nice, however the biggest attraction are the wild life. The sea lions, birds and iguanas do not fear humans are thus do not move when you approach them. We swam with the playful sea lions and penguins, an experience of a life time. HIGHLY recommend this incredible trip and also the xpedition.

We went to the Galapagos Islands as part of a Peregrine tour and were housed on the MY San Jose boat for 15 days. The boat only has 16 passengers at a maximum and 8 crew + guide. The first week, we had 12 passengers and the second week we had 10 passengers.
The boat travelled to both the Eastern and Western islands. We had at least 2 shore excursions a day and at least 2 water/snorkling excursions a day. The guide (Fabian) was fantastic and very proactive on all excursions. The boat provided very adequate meals and the chef really went to a lot of trouble to ensure that we ahd variety every day.
The wildlife has to be seen to be believed on land and in the water. The shore excursions for blue footed and red footed boobies, iguanas, sea lions, tortoises, and many more, were a delight. Swimming with sea lions, iguanas, sharks, porpoises, turtles and the myriad of fish was a once in a lifetime thrill. Some of the shore excursion visited such places as the Darwin Research Centre and the Tortoise Breeding Centres.
Thoroughly recommend the Galapagos trip on a small boat for more excursions - and especially the San Jose. It doesn't have the luxury of the larger "gin palace" ships, but it makes up for that in expedition experience and enthusiasm.
