Owner description: Dive with us into the spectacular and fascinating underwater world of the Galapagos Islands, one of the last natural paradises on earth. Discover nature at its purest and most original form, while following the footsteps of Darwin. See what is seen only in dreams...Each and every dive site around the islands ranks among the best and most impressive destinations in the world. Diving with pelagic fish and large sea creatures gives divers one of the most spectacular experiences possible. Encounters with different species of sharks, mantas, rays, whale sharks, marine turtles and sea lions are typically seen on most dives. With some luck, dolphins, marine iguanas and penguins can also be seen underwater! To give guests from around the world the opportunity to dive in this "natural aquarium", Hotel Silberstein in Puerto Ayora opened this Dive Center in February 2006.

Dived Gordon Rocks with Alex. It was a difficult dive for our experience level, but Alex made us feel safe the whole time. We saw hammerhead sharks and the mola mola sunfish! fantastic!

We did 3 day trips with Silberstein dive center during our Galapagos visit. As tourists were pretty scares on the island during our stay we were never more than 4 divers on a day trip, which means we had the undivided attention of the dive guide. They had good quality equipment as far as I could tell (Waterproof wet suits, which are among the best) and the guides and other staff were very nice and helpful. The only draw back as far as I'm concerned was that we had 3 different guides (except for Alex they were freelancers), although they were all very good, it would have been nice to have the same guide all three days. Alex is the manager and also instructor/guide. He's very security aware and takes time to explain risks and difficulties involved with the dive site in question. So you feel prepared and in good hands when you go in the water.

After 3 well conducted day trips with sea turtles, Manta ray and Hammerheads I can only give my best recommendations to this dive center.

Thank Henrik H

After a bit of TA readings and based on availability, we went with Silberstein for two days of diving. We are two intermediate divers who wanted to go to Gordon Rocks. We dove with four other divers, Daniel our master. Check dive was good to get us all feeling good about our gear and for Daniel to see level of comfort of the divers in the water. On our second dive, another member of the crew came with us to help our one of the divers who seemed less comfortable underwater. The crew was friendly and worked really well together, getting us ready to enter the water, helping us put our fins on, and also coming out of the water. They were also attentive with our belongings and even brought us our sunglasses at some point. The hot chocolate after the first dive and fresh fruits snack was a nice touch for in-between dives so that we were refreshed but not bogged down by a huge lunch. Daniel was quick to notice if we had any issues with our gear or problems descending. I will say that perhaps based on an initial assessment, it may have been deemed that we were capable divers and thus, it was assumed that we would be able to ascend on our own when we were low on air. we thought it was a plus that divers are allowed to stay in the water for as long as they have air, but beginning divers will need to make it known if they are not comfortable possibly ascending with only their buddy. In our case, the current was strong and I got separated from my buddy during ascension, so this would be something to note as well.
We felt Daniel and crew were observant and noticed that someone took note that we had mentioned something about not having depth gauges Day 1 and on Day 2, they had switched out our gear and given us the gauges. We thought Daniel was knowledgeable in selecting our diving paths and we were able to see sea lions, schools of various fish and even two groups of hammerheads even though visibility was only about 8-10m. Our wetsuits and fins were great, bcds fair. We had a good time with Daniel and crew and would recommend to other divers. Just be up front about your skills or lack thereof. Oh, you may want to rent or bring your own dive computer and gloves.

I don't think diving gets better than this! Silberstein provided a great diving experience!! This was only my second dive after my Open Water course & it was unbelievable. Alex was very professional & provided the extra care & fear calming I needed being a beginner! We saw sea tortoises, sting rays, swam through a school of barracuda, saw hammerheads and whitetip sharks, sea lions (lobo marinos!) and saw a giant eagle ray! Thanks Alex & the staff at Silberstein for a great, unforgettable trip!

After a less enchanting experience with another Puerto Ayora dive shop I went with Silberstein for a dive trip to Mosquera / Seymour North. The equipment was OK, the service around the diving itself was very good, the food... well, it's not a gourmet trip, is it? :-)
But most importantly the guide Alex was very relaxed and experienced. He took the group for a short check dive (regulator replacement, emptying a half-full mask) at 5m to assess skills and understand which less experienced divers he needed to look after a bit more. The two dives then went smoothly and were a fantastic underwater journey with hammerheads, sea lions, turtles, barracudas, rays... no need to say more! I'd dive with them again, gladly, unfortunately the Galapagos are too far away...!
