Ok so its fair to say my experience of Ecuadorian building standards is that there is not a lot of sound proofing but this place with its central location and roof top bar across the road was a nightmare. We had booked in to go diving- (early 6am start) so a good nights sleep was vital. An average night kicked off with local teenagers drunkenly yelling at each other in the street, music from the bar and other guests stomping up the stairs and progressed to someone who turned the TV on loud every night at 3am. Hearing a couple having bad s*x in the room above after the 3am wake up with the TV pretty much topped it off.

Please if you stay here try and keep it in mind and don't talk/ stomp when going up the stairs at night!

The room itself was ok for the price. Basic - and clean - apart from our bed cover/ blanket type thing that was stained with mildew on the underside. At least the sheets/ towels were changed daily.

Room Tip: we stayed in room 18.

We found Hotel Espana to be a great option in Puerto Ayora: Daniel and Michele, the two main staff members working at the front desk, were extremely helpful and hardworking. The hotel is in a great location: Easy walking distance to Tortuga Bay, Charles Darwin Center, and to the waterfront. For a decent cup of coffee/$5 breakfast deal, the Galapagos Deli is down the street; Lava Laundry nearby did our laundry for $1.50/kilo; and a $5 plate of fish, rice, and fried plantains can be found at the nightly small fish market. We would definitely stay at the Hotel Espana again--FYI--look into booking day tours to Bartolome, North Seymour, or Plaza Sur through the hotel as soon as you arrive! These day tours don't leave every day and should be booked in advance: We found out the hard way. Skip the day tours offered to Floreana and Isabela--we met many unhappy travelers who were very disappointed.

Room Tip: We stayed for six nights in three different rooms: The wifi reached #3 and #5, but both have the pot...

Ah, Mama-San's house of fun. I spent a week here, but was mostly out for long day tours and just used it as a place to crash. Unfortunately, they do not take credit cards so reserving a room requires making a deposit at an Ecuadroian bank, or wiring money.

I was promised a suite, which turned out to be a normal-sized hotel room. The room itself was very clean, but lacked a safety deposit box and I had to go on faith that my stuff would not be stolen. Fortunately, I did not have a problem.

There was a lot of noise throughout the day and night, and the room had a view of concrete walls and construction rubble: very prison-esque. Every sound from the adjoining room was clearly audible, and there was a constant symphony of sounds from outside. During the day, it sounded like someone was trying to break through the wall with a chisel.

The free WiFi only works from the “comfortable rest area” and is at Galapagos speed: napping turtle. The so-called “comfortable rest area” has two hammocks that are in high demand, and rarely available. The rest of the seating is on hard wooden benches or chairs that are anything but comfortable.

The breakfast, which is not included, is not worth paying money for. Every day brings the same thing: glop of scrambled eggs, buns, unfresh juice, and Nescafe. If you leave on a tour earlier than 6:45am, they will not bend and you will go hungry. Assuming you have a choice, go eat the $6 ish breakfast at Il Giardino, which is a much better deal.

My husband and I stumbled upon this hotel after leaving our more expensive digs in the search for something more economical. We were able to negotiate the price here and the staff are very helpful and friendly. It is an easy walk anywhere in town and the air conditioning works well. However, when we asked the one of the gentlemen at the front desk about taking the bus to the airport the next morning, he gave us the wrong information, so when we went down to reception the following morning and asked how to get to the bus station, we were told that there was only one bus that morning and that it had already left. In the end we had to spend a lot more money than we had planned on a taxi to the airport (or port). There are also small children who wander around and one of them stole my sunglasses (I got them back) and pulled my hair while I was lying in a hammock trying to relax. It was just frustrating because the common area is the only place where the internet works.

We stayed here for 4 nights and enjoyed our stay. It's basic but very clean and situated 5 minutes walk to most places centrally in puerto ayora. The staff are very friendly especially Daniel who couldn't do enough for us. Always polite and courteous and happy to answer any questions we had. Breakfast is simple but adequate. Eggs, bread, tea and coffee all for 3.50$. If your looking for a good value budget guest house/hostel this is perfect. The rooms on the top floor are bigger and newer but a little more expensive. But all we looked at on the other floors were fine too but a little smaller with less natural light.

Room Tip: The rooms on the first floor 'just' about pick up the wifi signal from reception if you want...

We stayed here on both our initial stay in Puerto Ayora for 5 nights, and again for 2 nights towards the end of our stay. We had room 33 which was a suite -- large, comfortable queen bed, two big windows, ac, and cable TV. The WiFi in the common area worked just fine for me on both my iphone and macbook. Speaking of which, we had no problems at all leaving electronics & passports in the room when we went out.

As other reviews have mentioned, the location is great -- 1-2 short blocks from the main stretch of restaurants and shops, basically right near everything. Daniel, the guy who was at the front desk nearly all the time, was very friendly and efficient (we stayed in other places on different islands, and the reception desk here was by far the most organized). Daniel's english is reasonable, and he helped me make several phone calls to set up various parts of our trip --- I told him what we were looking for and he called and spoke in Spanish to set things up (my Spanish isn't great, and I tried when I could, but the phone was tough).

Room Tip: The rooms are all very different, so if you see one that isn't to your liking (uncomfy bed, few...
