Jill and Javier took care of everything for our group of five, 2 mothers with our 3 grown children. They were extremely patient with all our questions, going above and beyond our expectations. One of us got a stomach bug and Javier asked the hotel to make a magic tea which took care of the problem overnight. He also arranged a last minute scuba diving experience. Everything Jill and Javier planned for us happened on time and with little effort on our part. One of them dropped by our hotel every evening to check on us and remind us of the following morning's schedule. I definitely recommend at least a couple of nights at La Casa de Marita on Isabella Island with their guide Manino.

A trip to the Galapagos is no time to skimp -- let Jill and Javier plan your trip and you can just relax and enjoy!

We had the most amazing vacation in the Galapagos thanks to Jill and Javier, their fantastic guides, and Sue in Florida. Our trip was meticulously planned allowing us adventure, relaxation, exploration, and just enough time on our own. Javier met us at the airport and we immediately felt at home. He and Jill took great care of us, making sure we were happy, introducing us to friends and family, teaching us about coffee growing, local foods, animals, mammals, more. They even gave us a great recommendation for a dinner spot in Quito.

Our stay at Semille Verde was exceptional. We were not sure about staying up there thinking it would be too far from town. I'm so glad we took their advice. The place is beautiful, the meals were the best, and there were tortoises everywhere!
Next stay was Isabela Island - awesome! Our guide there was Minino. He is a treasure! What fun!! Definitely go to Isabela. Gorgeous beach, great people, amazing snorkeling, and a fun plane ride. Our last 3 nights were at Sol y Mar. Great location and wildlife watching.

We hope to return to the Galapagos some day. If we do, we will absolutely book with Galapagos Alternative.

I agree with all the positive things that have been said about Galapagos Alternative. They planned an excellent itinerary for us that allowed us to see and do everything we hoped to see and do, selected excellent guides and hotel, checked in on us daily to answer questions and find out how things were going, and treated us wonderfully. Jill and Javier are an absolute delight to be around--very kind, professional, pleasant personalities. Additionally, before our trip, the communication was excellent; emails were answered same day. It was a little nerve-racking to wire money to them without knowing them (I'm not aware of any Galapagos touring agency that takes credit cards in reservations--someday maybe that will catch on), but everything worked out perfectly. I have no complaints and would absolutely use Galapagos Alternative again.

I wish that Jill and Javier had business operations in the next destination of our vacation. The whole trip was so well planned and executed that we felt like little kids having a ball every day without worrying about anything. We clearly communicated our needs, expectation and budget requirement. Jill and Javier put together an agenda that provided us the opportunity to see what we wanted to see and to do what we wanted to do. They are very diligent and thoughtful about which naturalist/guide to pick for their clients. We LOVED the guides that showed us around. They are full of knowledge, passion and joy! We knew that if anything happened, i.e., getting sick or missing a flight, Jill and Javier would be there to rescue us. They checked on us every day. We were there for 9 days. More than half of the time it was only us or us and another lovely couple accompanied by our guide. Ask all the questions you have about the fauna and flora. There was plenty of time for the guides to share their stories and experience. We were treated like royals. Great value, great service!

I fell in love with the islands and people. If we go back to the Galapagos, we will definitely contact Jill and Javier again.

Galapagos Alternative is a locally-based, locally-owned, land-based (as opposed to cruise ship-based) group which will help you plan your trip to the Galapagos Islands. Owners Jill and Javier are warm, welcoming, helpful, and knowledgeable. We used their services to plan an 8-day trip to the islands in October 2010, complete with stays in three amazing hotels / guest houses and excellent tours to see the geography, flora, and fauna of the islands.

I can think of no better way to visit Galapagos than to use Galapagos Alternative to plan your itinerary. We stayed on Santa Cruz and Jill and Javier sent us on day trips to Bartholome, Plazas, and a three day trip to Isabella, all of which were wonderful. Our itinerary was well planned in advance and included hand-picked naturalist guides with good English skills and a clear enthusiasm for their work. The ability to find the best guides for private tours may be Galapagos Alternatives’ biggest strength.

There were some small details of the trip which proved problematic. We would recommend against visiting Cerro Mesa, as the site does not appear fully developed and has limited animal life (as our guide for the day admitted). In addition, it’s important to keep some extra cushion with flight times and connections, as airline delays seem to be the norm in Ecuador, which led to us spending a total of ~6 hours in the Galapagos airport plus an unscheduled extra day on the mainland.

Overall, however, the experience was excellent and can strongly recommend Galapagos Alternative’s services to anyone considering visiting the islands.
