'Uncle' Bob and wife Daysi have put together a fantastic Lodge, small enough to be personal and friendly and just large enough to be viable. The rooms are generous in size and appointments. I nearly did not notice the absence of TV, in anty case we were so tired from all the tours, happy with the superb food served at Semilla Verde it never became an issue.
This Lodge is set away from the road and the noise and yet we went regularly by taxi (strange 4 wheel drive trucks) U$ 6 each way to town for meals, to visit more places or just to get a beer.
Giant turtles are common place in the Galapagos but having some turtles visit your grden was something special.
We had room 2 which probably is the best value/view.
Left the blinds open at night and woke-up to fantastic view of the lush local vegetation. Did we enjoy our stay here? You bet we did.

I know it seems silly to keep repeating the same things over and over again. The beauty, expert guiding, attention to detail, cleanliness, friendliness, eagerness to please, etc etc----there is not one thing that our family of 6 were put off about during our 5 night Christmas stay. Guides came when they were booked for tours, taxis arrived, restaurants were reserved, itineraries changed, the "honour system bar fridge" replenished daily, laundry done, and the best coffee in Ecuador. All because Robert and Daysi have created a guest house, where they themselves would like to vacation in. In such serene beauty of the Highlands, a little gem is hidden away. Shhhhh let's keep this to ourselves. And hello Yoga Studio---soon to be accepting guests for that endeavour.

Robert and Daysi's beautiful, tranquil coffee plantation, Semilla Verde, is a perfect base for a Galapagos visit. Robert is a professional guide as well as a fantastic host and created an ideal itinerary for our family of five for day visits to the various islands and sites. Starting off with their fabulous breakfasts and finishing with Daysi's delicious dinners topped off our days. There is a great library of interesting DVD's and books on Darwin etc. We had the best time and highly recommend it.

Room Tip: Room One has the most awesome view.

A taxi driver picked us up right from Baltra airport, as arranged, as we soon found ourselves in a great location in the middle of the island away from the hubbub and touristy "I love boobies" main drag. A taxi ride to/from town is about half an hour, but you'd not want to leave for at least a day or two. The owner is a great guy, nothing is too much trouble, and the meals are fantastic.

Thanks Robert - great place you have here!

I recently spent five nights at Semilla Verde and have nothing but wonderful things to say. There were no glitches at all - from the airport transfers and tours that Robert arranged to the breakfast served by his awesome staff every morning. I especially appreciated the suggestions for getting around town since I don't speak Spanish and traveled alone; I foolishly hadn't considered how difficult it would be calling to request a taxi in Spanish but Robert took care of that every time.
P.s. splurge on the top room if it's available and don't miss Robert's tour of the Highlands!

A lot of Galapagos touring revolves around boat trips and guided hikes on remote islands. But a tour of the highlands is worthwhile too. Robert, the host and owner of Semilla Verde, is a great guide. He is knowledgeable about the geology, flora, and fauna; and he can explain why you are wearing a jacket at the Equator.

The accommodations are spacious, luxurious, and friendly. The food is excellent, and the coffee—grown outside your windows—is delicious.

Room Tip: Higher is better.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
"Semilla Verde is an exceptional hotel with the customs and personality of a traditional guesthouse." We believe your experience in the Galapagos Islands should be as unique and natural as you are. So, here at Semilla Verde we offer you the chance to stay somewhere far removed from your busy life and the standard hotel offering you may be used to. We invite you to step into another world, the original Galapagos, the true and enchanting islands. And, to experience the wonders of a rural forest dwelling and life alongside the unique wildlife you came so far to see. Your stay will be based in an original and idyllic rural retreat where peace, privacy and Galapagos wildlife abounds. You will enjoy one-to-one personal service, traditional home cooking, panoramic views from private terraces and exclusive access to nature trails through twelve acres of private forest where giant tortoises lumber freely and native birds thrive. At night, gaze up into the unspoilt majesty of the milky way. Nine comfortable en-suite bedrooms with AC, WiFi and DVD just 15 minutes taxi ride from Puerto Ayora town, costing just $7 e/w. All in all, an authentic and genuinely friendly and authentic land-base for your Galapagos adventure and an all encompassing alternative or add-on to a traditional cruise ship experience. Semilla Verde works with a local tour agency to offer complete hotel & tour package options too. You will visit outlying islands and local sites with qualified naturalist guides and experience first hand the beauty of Galapagos and it's unique flora and fauna - from giant tortoises and lava lizards to marine iguanas and playful sea lions, from volcanic landscapes to cloud forest. Return to the hotel at the end of an incomparable day and share your travel stories around the main dining table with other guests, whilst enjoying dinner freshly prepared in our kitchen. Indeed we don't work from a fixed menu rather we generally prepare one recipe for the group, but each guest receives a serving according to their individual preferences. The location is secluded but convenient and very safe. There is not another residence within hundreds of meters of this oasis. Semilla Verde remains true to the philosophy on which it originally built for good friends and family, ensuring a level of intimacy, small number of employees offering very personal service and home cooking your will only find in a traditional guesthouse. Semilla Verde comprises two hotel builidings some 100ft apart - the Semilla Verde Lodge (Rooms 1-6) and the Finch Wing (Rooms 7-9). They can work in unison or as separate entities for separate parties. betwen the two there is a fully equipped yoga studio where you can enjoy individual or group practice. Galapagos is famous for it's volcanic landscapes and unique wildlife, but it can also be somewhere for you to rediscover your true and unique nature, somewhere you can feel yourself again. ... more   less
