i've now stayed in a 6 different hotels in ecuador so i'm trying to judge it on ecuadorian standards. but this still gets a poor review from me.

good: the people who work there are friendly and try to be nice.
bad: they are inconsiderate and trying to cut corners.

examples:
* they have a water jug to fill your bottles, but they don't ever fill it up.
* they have wifi and claim it works on the terrace but the signal only works in the lobby and it doesn't usually work. we stayed there for 5 nights and 2 days it didn't work at all, and the other days i had to reset the router each time i tried to connect my laptop wifi. my smart phone was never able to connect. when we did connect it was painfully slow.
* we were in room 4, and while we were having a siesta in mid day heat, they banged on the door and made us leave the room so they could refill the hotel water supply from a firehose truck. they could have at least let us know the day ahead of time.
* they told us they had a kitchen we could use, but they didn't have any pots and locked their fridge and cabinets so we couldn't use anything.
* another patron we met on the terrace said his A/C broke and they couldn't fix it and couldn't move him b/c all the rooms were full.
* they don't do all of the above things, but they do come in your room everyday and straighten your sheets an remove the bathroom garbage. go figure.
overall these guys are cheap and crafty, and while we were there we saw them charge anything from $30 to $50 a night. so bargain hard.

Room Tip: room 4 has a fridge, BUT its also the room where they refill the hotel water tanks for a half hour e...

I only stayed for one night there and did absolutely not enjoy it. The room was dark and had only a window to the corridor, it was noisy all day and the hotel could need a bit of a renovation. The staff was unfriendly, WiFi did not work.

On first inspection i was hesitant to stay here, but we were tired and I agreed with my partnerfor one night only.

We ended up staying 5 nights as it was $30 per room per night, great sleep quality, and quiet! (the only noise was the screaming kids from next door at Hotel Espanol at approx 5 each afternoon). The rooms are NOT fancy but big, old linens, the odd power point hanging out, but the rooms were CLEAN and had every thing we needed.

The water pressure in the shower was awesome and the water was HOT! YAY!

Wifi is available in the lobby or on the rooftop terrace which is great for a BYO beer at dusk, although sometimes the wifi stalled. Breakfast is served up there too, and is YUM and plentiful (bread, jam, eggs, fruit, juice and coffee).

Surprisingly AWESOME and heaps better than next doors Hotel Espanol (as we checked that out too and it was a lot more expensive, no breakfast, and LOUD, smaller rooms).

Stay here!

Room Tip: Room 9 was great

The rooms in this hotel are very basic, though also very cheap. The price contains breakfast as well. We were suprised that it was personally prepared for us by a staff member. Location is also very central.

Stayed here for two nights as a solo traveller. Room was spacious and pretty clean but a little dark and stuffy with one window only looking onto a corridor. Bathroom very small and the toilet leaked. Reasonable breakfast served on the rooftop terrace included in the price. Well located.

stayed here for 4 nights, it was the cheapest private room we could find for $30/night (including continental breakfast). We didn't have reservations. After the first 2 nights, they told us they were full (with reservations) and that we had to vacate. So we scoped out the hotel next door (Espana $35 no breakfast but seemed a bit nicer) and packed up our bags to check out when they told us they could move us to a different room. So we changed rooms (it was huge, on the 3rd floor with 5 twin beds). The next day, they asked us to move to the room across the hall, so we did. All the moving around was a bit annoying.

All 3 rooms had cable T.V. (but the T.V. were all different sizes from tiny to watchable) and a DVD player (but one of them didn't work).

The rooftop terrace was very nice as it had a great view but also had some wind, as it was somewhat hot in the room (rooms had A.C. but cost $10 extra so we just opted for fans). They served continental breakfast on the terrace.

They supposedly had Wi-fi in the reception and terrace but I could never get the rooftop to work and the reception area was still a spotty connection.

Overall, it was a good value but the wi-fi was spotty.

We stayed here for a week. Our room had a cement staircase bottom in the middle of it. I was sure one of us would knock ourselves out running into it in the dark. There was air conditioning, but we did not want to use it, because all of the electricity on Santa Cruz comes from diesel generators, and we would rather not use it. However, the hostel has one window, and no cross-ventilation, and the one window is on a corridor that has a high plastic wall on the other side. We were supposed to have hot water, but never did. The water pressure was eccentric. The pillow cases had evidence of mold on them. The toilet ran. The breakfast was inedible. On the plus side, the top floor where breakfast is served is really nice, with cushioned chairs in which to rest.
