This is a very nice and luxurious hotel. There was only one other family there so it was extremely quiet. Everything about it is nice except for a couple of things:

1) The pool isn't heated
2) The tennis courts are shorter than normal tennis courts
3) It took forever for the chefs to make our dinner when we were the only people in the restaurant.

Besides that, it is a very nice hotel and I highly recommend it, but don't spend a whole day here. Trust me, it will get boring. And definitely go see the lava tunnel at the hotel it is really cool.

Using the Royal Palm as your base to discover these enchanted islands is the great untold secret of Galapagos. More than 90% of all foreign Galapagos tourists opt for the traditional boat trip, and usually put up with tiny cabins, engine noise at night, and smelly boat toilets. The little-known alternative is to get one of the extremely spacious villas of the Royal Palm and to do day-trips at your own pace. On a boat, you have to live by a regimented itinerary. When staying in this hotel, you can visit most of the places of the archipelago by day-trip and then put your head to rest in the peaceful and tranquil environment of your own villa (or go to the gym; get a massage; use the business center to stay on top of things; visit one of the local restaurants; enjoy the hot tub; get a DVD from the hotel's collection; etc etc).

The hotel is set in a quiet, fascinating environment with wonderful staff and virtually everything that you could dream of. You'll be woken up by the sound of birds and the hotel can book excellent local guides (all of them tried-and-tested).

I'd recommend the hotel any time....

We just got back from 5 wonderful nights at the Royal Palm. We decided to take day trips from the hotel instead of a cruise. The hotel was the perfect place to stay in the Galapagos. We stayed in the Prince of Whales Suite and it was beautiful. The service at the hotel was some of the best we have ever had. They went out of their way to make sure everything was perfect - from the delicious breakfasts, to room service, to arranging day tours. While it is in the highlands, we loved being able to get away from the heat and the crowds of Puerto Arroya. The hotel was so quiet and peaceful. We did not mind the 20 - 25 minute drive into town (and we did it almost every day). Also, we had perfect weather during our stay with lots of sun and blue skies. We highly recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to avoid a cruise (and its strict intinerary) or for a pre or post cruise detox. We have stayed at many Leading Hotels of the World and we find this to be on par with the others in that pretigious group.

We loved the Royal Palm. We stayed for 4 nights and took day trips every day. We enjoyed being away from the crowds of town after being on tours all day. It felt like we had a private retreat all to ourselves. The food was really good. The staff was very attentive. I would stay here again.

We had the most romantic getaway at Royal Palm Hotel in Galapagos! We stayed there for 5 nights in March. I felt sad to leave our villa for excursions every day... I would rather stay in our villa to fully enjoy the tranquil surrounding forest, the distanced beach view and fragrant butterfly gingers that I could easily pick outside the villa. Other than their perfect customer services, the food is five star as well. I have missed the misty and cool weather over there. Can't wait to go back and be pampered again! I highly recommend this heavenly hotel to anybody who wants to enjoy the ultimate relaxation!

We had two great nights at the Royal Palm and couldn't have been happier. Our villa was huge, with a king bed, living room, separate sun room (with jacuzzi tub) a large bath, and separate shower with a rainforest shower head. Upon seeing it, we immediately wished we'd planned to stay longer.

The service was gracious and welcoming. Food was very good, and included plenty of fresh vegetables, fruit, fish, and other island-appropriate fare. I honestly can't fault anything.

I would like to comment on some of the negative reviews here. Yes, the hotel is in the highlands, and as such sometimes will be shrouded in mist or even rain. Does this really merit an unfavorable review? It rained while we were there, but we somehow still managed to have an enjoyable stay. Don't stay here if you want to walk to the beach or walk to shops. It isn't that kind of place. It is a serene getaway with abundant luxury, and it is fantastic.

Also, there is plenty to do in the area. We saw plenty of wildlife right on the property, including short-eared owls, yellow warblers, groove-billed anis and other indigenous birds. There is a tortoise 'area' practically right across the street, and the tours we took started with at most a modest drive to town.

Even the mist didn't bother us. The rest of our Galapagos vacation was spent getting baked in the equatorial sun, so our time at the Royal Palm was a nice respite.

Enjoy!
