It stands out and gives the locals something to be proud of. A lovely walk too. It can be seen from all over Dili.

Well worth a visit but make sure you're fit to climb the stairs. It takes about 20 minutes to the top.The view from the top is enchanting.

The climb up to the top, past the Stations of the Cross, is well worth it, and a must-do for any trip to Dili. Do it early in the day, because it is, in parts, exhausting & you'll get really hot. The view from the top is just awesome. However, they really need to display a little information for tourists. There's no mention of how the statue of Christo Rei came to be there, nor of how it was constructed, none of that stuff that makes these things so interesting. I can tell you, from my Lonely Planet guidebook, that it was erected by President Soeharto in the years of the Indonesian occupation (1988?) & stands 27 metres high, representing the 27 states of Indonesia (as they were at that time), and was blessed by the Pope on his visit a year later. I'd like to know a bit more about how it was constructed, and what kind of ceremonies they hold in the amphitheatre area. Well worth it, though.

Never mind the exhausting climb. The highest point of Cape Fatucama, where Cristo Rei stands, rewards its visitors with a great view of Dili. It's only a few minutes taxi ride from the city center. Or if you're up for it, put on your running shoes and jog your way there like some locals/expats do.

It's a short taxi ride out there and some great views of the island. There is plenty of spaces for cars to park and some interesting mini statues with cacti to look at. Each statue leading the beach and to the Christ statue is very unique.
