If you know the history of the Indonesian occupation, you'll still appreciate the copies of documents, the photographs and the emotion of this display. Most of it is translated into English, a couple of old TV clips are in Portuguese. The Archives promised on the ticket were not available the day I visited.

“Resistance Museum, Dili, Timor Leste”
Reviewed July 29, 2013

This is a fascinating museum, not for the faint hearted, but as it explains the events and players involved in the Timorese struggle for independence that is to be expected. Very professional staff provide excellent support. A must see if you are in Dili.

“Very well done, if depressing”
Reviewed July 22, 2013

As other reviewers have noted, a very well laid out, modern, air conditioned museum with just a $1 entry fee. This poor country has suffered so much at the hands of pretty much every country that has had anything to do with them over the centuries and now they are having to pretty much start from scratch. It makes me embarrassed to realise just how badly Australia has acted, and continues to do with regards to the oil fields and the Timor Gap negotiations.
My only gripe was that I wanted to sit down for a while, but very few chairs in the place !

“Excellent museum.”
Reviewed July 15, 2013

Well laid out, with a great deal information in several languages. There are videos of guerrillas in action. But the video of the massacre at the Santa Cruz cemetery which was a turning point in the conflict graphically shows man's inhumanity to man. It is a museum that deserves some time to view the exhibits and displays.
