Owner description: Trsat Castle represents a strategically embossed gazebo on a hill 138 meters above sea level that dominates Rijeka. As a parochial centre it was mentioned for the first time in 1288. Trsat Castle is one of the oldest fortifications on the Croatian Coast, where the characteristics of the early medieval town construction have been preserved. Today Trsat Castle, beside the Bazilisk souvenir shop and the Gradina coffee bar, is enriched with new facilities – gallery space where art exhibitions are held as well as open-air summer concerts and theatre performances as well as fashion shows and Literary evenings. Within Trsat Castle, at the Petra Zrinskog b.b. Address, is the Trsat Castle Info Point where any information about this building and the town of Rijeka can be found.

Here, you will feel as though trapped in the present. You'd wish to live in medieval times and patrol it's walls and towers. It has a Roman castrum-like part which is closed to public as it's still being restaurated, but the rest of the castle and garrison grounds are open and well renovated. Lots of green spaces, antique and genuine items, and a nice caffe bar inside on of the towers with fantastic atmosphere.
The view over the city and Kvarner bay is absolutely stunning.

Simple castle, no fee, nice place to rest after a long walk up the stairs. Must see if you are in Rijeka but not worth to go to Rijeka just for this. I liked the old pictures of 15th, 16th, 17th centery that showed how looked this place at that time.

My friend and i took the bus up to the castle (15 kuna for a round trip ticket bought at any of the newsstands in Rijeka) on a Sunday morning. Great views from the castle and much of it is very well maintained. I'm not sure how they manage to maintain it so well since there is no entry fee to see the castle. It is definitely worth the 15 kuna bus ticket to get up to the castle and spend an hour walking around and then get a cup of coffee at the cafe located inside the castle courtyard.

The castle itself is very simple. Not too much to see but the views from it are very good. There's no admission fee to visit the castle so you may as well, stop by.

A small 13 century castle of Trsat is perched high on a hill overlooking Rijeka. Can be reached by bus, taxi or walk up 500 steps :)
Entry is free, there are great views of Rijeka and Kvarner bay. There is a small cafe bar inside the castle and during summer there are also various musical performances. Very relaxing atmosphere. Great photo opportunities. Some small souvenir shops inside the castle.
Right next to it there is a famous church, historical monument and pilgrimage site, worth visiting too!
