“Pleasantly surprised and loved it”

This hotel consists of four hotels. Not sure which one we were actually in but the room number is 513. We had a 2 bedroom suite which was huge and comfortable. It had 2 bathrooms and a great balcony overlooking the sea. The hotel is on the Lungomare and we enjoyed walking in both directions and swimming off the rocks like the locals. We loved Opatija and noticed that there were very few english speaking tourists which made the experience feel more authentic although English is widely spoken. The buffet breakfast and dinner were the most amazing we have ever seen - huge range and always varied. (And we are not actually big fans of buffet dinners - breakfast yes, dinner no) Opatija has free wifi in the town - a bonus for our teenagers!

I have been there for a weekend with my girlfrien. A lovely sea view room, excellent service, excellent staff. Can I just reccommand. Specialy Davor and Ana from the reception were great!
We requested a vase for roses and we got it right away. Beds are big and confortable. All hotels is very clean and smells very nice. Housekeeping are obiously doing a great job.
Next morning they granted us late check out, also room service was excellent.

What a strange hotel, consisting of 4 hotels linked together! Bizarre journey from reception involved using 2 lifts to move between different hotels and levels. The room was adequate - 2 single beds pushed together. However, the shower room was tiny - luckily we are both fairly small; a larger person could not fit in the shower cubicle! It was quite a squeeze to sit on the loo too!

Breakfast was a chaotic buffet with several stations spread around the restaurant, many duplicated in different parts of the large room. However, there was little logic in the layout of the stations. For example, if you chose a yogurt you then had to hunt around for a teaspoon to eat it with from another station. As a result the large volumes of people were constantly wandering around searching for some elusive item. Buffet lunch was rather more tranquil and there was a good choice of dishes.

This hotel was a little bit of R&R in our travels. The hotel was good and had a pool and spa, so perfect for some rest and sunshine. We ate in the hotel first night - very good value, but a buffet so a little samey. Breakfast, again great value and a buffet so could eat all we liked. The rooms we spacious and comfortable. Generally the hotel was great, but just had too many tourist buses for our liking.

I was part of a tour group and received a room with a balcony overlooking the sea. Room was comfortable and large. Restaurant has a buffet every evening with different foods of the area. The buffet was good and relatively tasty. Staff was friendly and helpful. Someway away from the downtown area so you have to bus or cab ride there.
There are however, several restaurants and small shops in walking distance. A small food market is right across the street.

I stayed for two nights in April 2010 as part of a business trip. The staff at the hotel was extremely friendly and welcoming and this was the best part of it. The room was on the small side with small balcony. No view of the sea for me. On the plus side, I was in the main building (there are 4) so I did not have to go out to get to the breakfast room, which some of my colleagues had to do. Breakfast was great, dinner less so. The wellness area is nice but you have to pay extra to use the spa area, while the main swimming pool was quite cold. Generally a nice hotel to stay in.

We stayed at the Grand for 3 nights as part of an organised tour (by Inghams) of Slovenia and Croatia and so had no choice of hotel or room category. The hotel is very nice and spread over 4 former Austro- Hungarian villas which are indeed very nice and very grand. There are some nice outdoor spaces to enjoy drinks in the good weather. We particularly liked the terrace at the Grand Café where they serve fantastic cakes, coffees etc.
Our standard room was nice and had a spacious balcony with side views of the sea. The ensuite shower room although very small was nice and looked newly refurbished.
The restaurant was huge with both breakfast and dinner served buffet style. There was a wide choice of food at breakfast but we felt that the quality of the food was disappointing.
We have never taken buffet style dinner before and we won’t be opting for the option again – dinner for us should be good food served to the table and well presented. This was more of a canteen experience and on the final night of our stay nothing more than a ‘bun fight’- we made 2 attempts to get a table in the restaurant. On our 2nd attempt we joined a couple from our party but did have to set the crockery ourselves. There were tables piled with dirty pots as guests attempted to clear tables themselves. The waiters were running round like headless chickens doing their best to cope. I complained to the Manager (I use the title loosely) who told me that he had 650 guests to 265 seats! He simply didn’t care but we did and for this reason alone we would not recommend this hotel.
