“It may not be the crown jewel of the Pullman brand but overall a good stay”
Reviewed April 2, 2013

For those who expect some ridiculously elevated standard of service and quality based on some experience at some leading or best Accor property, let me remind you, this is a Pullman, not a Sofitel. There are 80 Pullmans around the world, and it stands to reason, not all 80 can be "the best Pullman property in the portfolio". And I would hardly expect the Pullman Abidjan to be that much better than the other Pullmans I have stayed in. Also, this is a big city, downtown business location, not a resort property. For me, that automatically implies an adjustment of expectations. Don't come here expecting brand new, smart and fashionable fixtures from the world's leading interior designers set on a beautifully kept 18 hole golf course with an elaborate pool with water features overlooking an inviting beach. Instead, you should care about the basic utility of the room features and the level and quality of guest services.

Having said that, I found my stay at the Pullman to be quite pleasant, with everything in working order (almost - see WiFi comment below).

The rooms (at least the ones on the east-facing side of the building) have beautiful views of the Ebrie Lagoon and Cocody neighborhood. The pool is clean and well-kept (and frequently used), even if its design reflects a lack of creativity (it is a large rectangle) and it is overlooking a busy Abidjan avenue. The bed in my room was very comfortable, with quality bed linens. The room was clean, but simple. The A/C worked quite well and it seemed like the filters were clean (no cough, or sneazing, or dusty smell). The towels were old and worn out, as was the bathrobe. Unfortunately, the room had carpet, which I loathe. Hotel room carpet is never as clean as a hard tile floor. But I had a nice view, a cool room, a comfortable bed, and got a good sleep at night and a hot shower in the mornings.

The Wifi in the hotel was terrible. Good for e-mails only. Don't expect to surf the web easily or use Skype or do any high-data work. And after the first day, my iPad and iPhone stopped working - they would log on to the WiFi just fine, but never actually send or receive data. My companion had the same problem. Our laptops worked fine. And when we went to other places with WiFi, our iPhones worked perfectly. There is something really wrong about the hotel's WiFi.

Breakfast was mediocre, boring, but edible. Your usual fruit, cold cuts, pastries, fruit juices, and some warm hot food - your typical bacon and sausage, beans and baked tomatoes, scrambled eggs, crepes. The only highlight out of the ordinary for me was passion fruit juice as one of the juice options, along with your typical citrus juices.

The lobby was an attractively decorated. The employees were very professional, polite, well trained, and attentive.

All in all, a decent choice for a stay in the Abidjan plateau area.

Room Tip: ask for an east facing lagoon view room

I booked my room on their website and chose the formula with car rental with driver. Upon arrival receptionist just told me that car rental is not included and there is no car available any longer. This is purely marketing appelaing but Accor doesn't respect its word. Nobody within the hotel did not come back to me during my stay to discuss further that.

Not a Pullman standard to me!
The lobby is wide and nice, staff are pretty professional, however the rooms are depreciated.
i was expecting much more from a Pullman.
I had my reservation in principl at Novotel Abidjan, however due to the fact that the hotel was full, i was transfered to Pullman, which was supposed to be an upgrade.
i was on a business trip and did not spend much time in the Hotel, it was just breakfast and sleep over.
The bed was comfortable and the sheets were clean, the toilet definately needs renovation, and the breakfast was just OK, the variety is pretty limitted when compared to hotels of this standard.
in my next trip to Abidjan, i am sorry to say I will not stay at Pullman.
However i would change my mind if renovation would be done.

Room Tip: Choose a room with the Lagoon view

Monsieur "Bobztraveler"

In a first end, please let me thank you for your time in writting and posting your review.
On the second end, please let me tell you how sorry we are to read that your stay with us was not up to your expectation.
The complete satisfaction of our guests in our goal, and to read that the level of service that you experienced in our restaurant was not up to part, is a real disappointment to us.
Considering the bathroom, we are currently working on a hotel renovation program for next year.
Your feedback is the perfect opportunity for us to improve ourselves

Best Regards from Abidjan

The location is good, but the hotel has seen better days. Much better days. I stayed in two different rooms, and the carpets in both were stained, the walls dirty, and the bathrooms moldy with fixtures falling aapart. The bathrooms especially look like they haven't been touched since the seventies. Badly in need of a makeover. The staff are sloppy and don't try too hard ... the concierge especially is lazy and indifferent. The shuttle to the airport runs at times apparently expressly planned to not coincide with any flights. The restaurant however was very good, the staff their helpfu, and it was also usually empty -- the crab and avocado millefeuille especially was great. The hotel is overpriced, like most in Africa. I've been told the former Ivoire hotel, across the lagoon, is now the best hotel in the city.

This was the second time that I have stayed at the Pullman about 2 years apart and honestly there appears to be very little difference apart from the fact that the service has got worse. On check in I was allocated a "nice room" on the second floor at the front, which in truth was as poor as the one had on the previous visit, which was at the back overlooking the lagoon. The whole place has become very tired as are the staff who generally appear not to care less. Simple requests appear to beyond comprehension especially if given in English. The room was very tired with carpets that were worn and furniture that was probably out of date when installed. There was a flat screen TV, but most channels were in French with little choice for non-speakers. The bathroom was poor to say the least with mildew ingrained in between the tiles. A broken telephone or rather wires were the phone should have been. Amenities were limited as were the towels and with one day to check out I was left with a single hand and bath towel both of which were worn. The in-room safe is a decent size for laptops etc, but is in a cupboard about head height so beware you close the cupboard door otherwise you risk a nasty bruise as I did! Don't mention the bed which was well worn with a mattress that had a dip on one side where everyone had previously slept. The minibar was empty apart from 2 bottles of complimentary water. The Wifi, which is free, but very poor and unreliable particularly in the rooms.

One of the two restaurants has been closed and it looks abandoned, and the one that remains open has the same menu as it did 2 years earlier. Expensive for what you get! The pool outside looks uninviting on the terrace and despite the heat I never saw anyone using it.

Overall it is poor and the only reason to stay there for me was the fact that it is close to the financial centre. Hopefully it will be renovated at least partially before I have to stay there again, but in meantime it does not offer good value for money.
