For those who expect some ridiculously elevated standard of service and quality based on some experience at some leading or best Accor property, let me remind you, this is a Pullman, not a Sofitel. There are 80 Pullmans around the world, and it stands to reason, not all 80 can be "the best Pullman property in the portfolio". And I would hardly expect the Pullman Abidjan to be that much better than the other Pullmans I have stayed in. Also, this is a big city, downtown business location, not a resort property. For me, that automatically implies an adjustment of expectations. Don't come here expecting brand new, smart and fashionable fixtures from the world's leading interior designers set on a beautifully kept 18 hole golf course with an elaborate pool with water features overlooking an inviting beach. Instead, you should care about the basic utility of the room features and the level and quality of guest services.
Having said that, I found my stay at the Pullman to be quite pleasant, with everything in working order (almost - see WiFi comment below).
The rooms (at least the ones on the east-facing side of the building) have beautiful views of the Ebrie Lagoon and Cocody neighborhood. The pool is clean and well-kept (and frequently used), even if its design reflects a lack of creativity (it is a large rectangle) and it is overlooking a busy Abidjan avenue. The bed in my room was very comfortable, with quality bed linens. The room was clean, but simple. The A/C worked quite well and it seemed like the filters were clean (no cough, or sneazing, or dusty smell). The towels were old and worn out, as was the bathrobe. Unfortunately, the room had carpet, which I loathe. Hotel room carpet is never as clean as a hard tile floor. But I had a nice view, a cool room, a comfortable bed, and got a good sleep at night and a hot shower in the mornings.
The Wifi in the hotel was terrible. Good for e-mails only. Don't expect to surf the web easily or use Skype or do any high-data work. And after the first day, my iPad and iPhone stopped working - they would log on to the WiFi just fine, but never actually send or receive data. My companion had the same problem. Our laptops worked fine. And when we went to other places with WiFi, our iPhones worked perfectly. There is something really wrong about the hotel's WiFi.
Breakfast was mediocre, boring, but edible. Your usual fruit, cold cuts, pastries, fruit juices, and some warm hot food - your typical bacon and sausage, beans and baked tomatoes, scrambled eggs, crepes. The only highlight out of the ordinary for me was passion fruit juice as one of the juice options, along with your typical citrus juices.
The lobby was an attractively decorated. The employees were very professional, polite, well trained, and attentive.
All in all, a decent choice for a stay in the Abidjan plateau area.
