The setting: You are directly opposite the Tropicana Casino/Resort. You are also just half a block to the boardwalk. There is onsite parking at this property for $10/day. This is a motel and looks it, with a few cosmetic changes to the exterior and interior. The check-in was quick and efficient. There is no lobby here, just a small reception, as this is a motel. All the rooms here are built around the outdoor pool, and all are accessed from outdoor hallways.
The room: Ours had a queen size bed, which was soft and comfortable, but had wrinkled and stained sheets and bedding. I do not think the hotel presses the bedding after laundering it, and I do not think they are mindful of pretreating stains. The room had a small flat screen TV, a coffee maker, and a safe. The free Wi-Fi worked great in the room but requires a code from the front desk. The vanity was separated from the toilet and shower. The shower had decent water pressure but mold was growing on the ceiling because ventilation of the shower room is lacking. If the hotel had its cleaning staff disinfect the shower room ceiling after guests check out, the mold issue wouldn’t be occurring. The room had an in-wall A/C-heater which worked well. One oddity was the posted prices for nearly every item in the hotel room. Apparently, people must loot their rooms prior to checking out. Also, beware, you get a 15 minute grace period for the 11am check-out time. If you check out after 11:15am, you will be charged $20 for each 15 minute period.
All in all, we chose this hotel because we were overnighting on a Saturday night and all Atlantic City casino resorts gouge guests with overinflated prices on the weekends. We decided to spend our money on restaurants and entertainment, and save by staying at Tryp. If you are have a similar perspective, you won’t be disappointed.
