We dined at Fornelletto this weekend at the recommendation of some friends. They raved about everything from atmosphere to service to quality of food.

We made early reservations because the restaurant was booked solid from 6-9 PM. When we arrived there were a few tables seated but it was not overly crowded. After being seated we waited for almost 5 minutes for the server to come over and ask for a drink order. He told us there were no special that evening and hurriedly ran though 2-3 menu items he "recommended" before disappearing for another 5 minute period getting our drinks. While we waited, another table was seated next to us and their waiter was there immediately to get drink orders and to explain each of their signature dishes in detail. We made our decision based on his recommendations and descriptions rather than our own waiters offerings.

The food came out and was delicious. Kudos to the waiter at the next table. Our waiter, he never came by until after we were done eating. Thanks to an attentive bus and back wait staff we were served anything at all. When we asked, the hostess told us our waiter had a table of 6 that was keeping him busy. Guess you get better service if you have a larger group at this restaurant.

Overall I would rate the food in the very good class, atmosphere in the excellent range, service as poor to average, and overall in the good to very good area. There are better places to eat but perhaps our poor experience with our server is swaying our rating lower.

We expected more and that disappointment only merits them an average rating.

We ate here two nights because the only other options in the Borgata right now are steakhouses and sushi. I recommend the artichoke hearts appetizer, the halibut, sea bass, the duck and any of the specials. We shared the salads on both nights because they are so large. They plated them for us. I highly recommend the chopped salad and the caesar. Atmosphere is a little cold, but beautiful, replicating a wine cellar.

The setting for this restaurant is great, it is literally in a wine cellar in the hotel. We had drinks at the bar, which were great, after we couldn't get service at the hotel bar. Dinner was good, our service was great. The ravioli was good both the cheese and veal ravioli. I personally had the spaghetti with meatballs, the pasta was obviously home made and extremely fresh, I was not crazy about the pasta sauce as it had a sweeter flavor and would probably get the ravioli if we ever come back, I tasted a bit of my husbands. Everything was a la carte, and main dishes came with only the pasta. The bread was good, but could have used some sort of oil or rosemary butter to accompany it.

Very noisy atmosphere! Everything on menu is a la carte and very pricey. Least expensive entree except pasta was $24 with not even a salad included. Wine is even worse! Will not return.
