“Who are they catering the music to at the pools?”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 27, 2014

My wife and I love The Borgata and particularly the Water Club. We have stayed many times. The rooms are large and clean, and there are usually cleaning crews seen around the facility shining things. Our one complaint is this: Who are they catering the music to, particularly at the outdoor sun deck pool? We usually try to get out there by 10am or so and are surrounded by others in our age group (mid 30s to 50). Its a great spot, but they play techno or (house) music incessantly. At that time of day people are looking to relax and have an enjoyable experience by the pool. Maybe some soft rock or pop music would fit the bill, but that incessant thump thump thump of that techno nonsense is enough to drive you crazy. We are usually gone within an hour of arrival and wonder if that the point. Drive you out with that crazy music so they can turnover the chairs? If thats the game plan, there are other ways to do that without driving your customers crazy. Normally we would order food or drinks by the pool, but not at this place. The music prevents us from doing that.

Look, I have stayed at many of the hotels in AC over the years. I like The Water Club. It's not really old, like many of the AC hotels. The rooms are nice. Service is very good. No casino right below you, but you can take a quick walk and play at Borgata. Spa is very nice but a bit on the pricey side. Try to hook up with a package and you can save a lot of money. Maybe it's psychological but I sleep better knowing that the casino is not buzzing below me. The only downside that I can think of is that you are not near the boardwalk.

WaterClub standard room was well appointed. Views of AC skyline offer a nice view. The room was pleasantly sound proof from other guests and offered serene sleep. The pool seating at Water Club is tough to get seats together if you're with friends though. We had a group of four and that was just not working there. Restaurants were all a pretty good value, with offerings of something for everyone and in a variety of price ranges. Flay's was pricey but competative with other major chains, the food was top quality, served piping hot, the staff was very on their game. The vibe of the hotel is just happy and positive overall. Other casino's and places did not have that same aura, Revel for instance. The poker room set up was well managed and most dealers did a great job at facilitating play for all level of players and kept up a good atmosphere. The hotel seemed to please everyone from the young crowd to the not quite as young crowd in general.

Where do I start? Let's go day by day. Thursday, we arrive at the Water Clubs valet, he asks us how long we are staying and we tell him, Sunday. We are told to go upstairs and check in, our bags are in the car, the valet knows this. We check in, they had a dbl queen room for us but we booked a king bed, she fixes it There isnt tells us we have a marina view and then asks us for our valet ticket so they can get our bags, we never got one. I had to go back down to the valet, they parked my car with our luggage in it and the guy says he didnt think we needed them. Did he just start working there? We finally get our bags into our room, we do not have a marina view, its a bay view and garage roof view. I call the front desk and they tell us no marina views are available on the top floor, we had to go down to 16. I decide to go to the manager, she finds a marina view room but it's a vista view for a lil more. It is about 5pm but that room is not clean yet, we walk around and get the new keys. We go back 31st floor and the keys dont work! Our bell man John (very nice man), runs down to get us new keys. Bobby Flays for dinner was very good. Getting ready for bed later on, our remote wont turn off the tv and volume keys dont work, after searching for buttons on the tv and not finding anything, we call the front desk for maintenance, 30 min later and we wanted to sleep, called the front desk again, they finally came 20 min after my second call. Our box and remote needed to be replaced ( in the morning), maintenance had to unplug the tv to turn it off, lol. Our WiFi kept disconnecting(we called twice ovee this) and its not free. The beds are too hard for a hotel and pillows very fluffy, bad combo. Friday, we get to our $300 cabana without any credit towards any liquor or food, I have traveled all over the world and never heard of this, Vegas included. My wifes recliner and my cushion were both broken. It was hard to find a cushion that didnt have broken straps (to keep cushion from sliding down) the only cushion not broken was mine. You would think for the high price tag everything in the cabana would be perfect. Our pool attendant searched and could not find anything usable. He apologized and told us" our stuff always breaks but no one listens to us". Then we order some food, we asked for our thick rolls to be scooped out, since the menu isnt very pool friendly. Guess what, my lobster sandwich came and nothing was scooped out, waitress also apologizes and says "sorry, they never listen". We decide to go into the cloudy looking pool, we got disgusted when we saw mold around the pool and everyone's lotion in chunks in the pool, i have never seen that in any pool, EVER, we got out and went to the back pool, it was
nice and clean. Saturday, we head to pool early but all the chairs are taken, no cabanas available. We find lounge chairs in the indoor pool area but the ac is on high. Why would u want it to be cold by the pool? Who wants to swim when they are cold? Palm trees and sun coming through the skylight and its freezing. There isnt any music inside, all that is heard are the muffled sounds from the outside.
The shops at the either Water or Borgata arent anything special, Hugo Boss was nice, Just Cavalli wasnt impressive, trashy and overpriced. Besides Bobby Flays and John the young bell man, we were disappointed on many levels. I have never traveled and had so many issues arise. I expected smooth sailing and great customer service. Sadly I wont be returning to this hotel. Its a poor mans vegas.

My friend and I arrived around noon to check in and were told we could not use the pool facilities until 3pm. To “waste” some time before being given access to the facilities (not something you usually have to do at a resort), we had lunch in the bar area. When we were finished around 2:45pm, we went over to the pool area and were quickly turned away. We were strictly informed that we would not be permitted to come in until 3pm sharp. This policy is ridiculous.

Regarding the use of the fitness center: When we got in there, no one was at the front desk to greet us so we got onto the only two cardio machines that weren’t occupied (gym is way too small). About 10 minutes into our workout we were approached by your staff who asked us if we had signed in….we told him we did not, as we didn’t know we were supposed to. With the sign-in clipboard in hand, he asked us to get off our machines to come sign in. Why he could carry over the clipboard but not a pen to assist us in signing in, I don’t know. What kind of hospitality is that? We told him we would prefer to finish our cardio workout before signing in if he couldn’t assist. He said fine. When were were leaving (before we would have liked to, but the gym was too crowded for sufficient use), we were then told it is a $15 fee to use the fitness center. I cannot tell you how many hotels I have traveled to all over the world and have never been asked to pay extra for use of the fitness center. Especially one that is far from adequate. This was so disappointing.

Additionally, the fact that wifi is $9.95 a day is crazy. It isn’t 1995. Get with it, offer complimentary wifi to your guests.

Lastly, the sushi restaurant, Izakaya, was closed….on a Thursday night in mid July, when you have a big event going on. Makes no sense.

So basically if you stay here, you pay min of $300 for a bed. That is it. Everything else is extra or a stipulation. Overall, their hospitality is nonexistent. Their policies make people feel unwelcome. Listen up, Water Club, if you don’t want your hotel to shut down with the rest of them, I would highly recommend providing more acceptable service. You will never get the level of clientele you want staying in your hotel if you continue your current service level.

Stayed three nights (7/9-7/11). My wife & I enjoyed the hotel - friendly staff, good restaurants in the hotel complex. Just a couple of small things that should not have been. One drawer and one cabinet door would not stay closed - shabby looks for an upscale hotel. And, didn't notice it at first, but flushing the toilet did not rinse the entire bowl. A definite negative.
